Little ones on the Potty

My DD just turned 3 and FINALLY took an in peeing in the big potty. She still won't tell me when she needs to go, but I set a timer, well it's come to having to set it every 30-40 minutes and SHE GOES EACH TIME. She's thirsty a lot and she mostly drinks water, sometimes diluted juice and milk, and don't forgot the chocolate milk on special occasions. My pediatrician told me not to worry and that her bladder is still learning how to HOLD it.

I WOULDN'T WORRY. They just need time to grow and practice!

:thumbsup2

I have to say, I'm not to worried that its something serious like diabeties because that doesn't run in the family, but I will be sure to mention everything to the dr when we go in a few weeks. And I just want to proudly say that she finally went potty at the mall!!! She has been scared stiff to go while were out, holding it for hours upon hours at a time, but finally today it worked! I told her I had to go, so she ofcourse had to come in with me, I sat down.... did what I had to do.... she saw that nothing bad happened to me, and said should would give it a try (of course knowing she would get a cookie after). So she did it, and now says shes no longer scared of the mall potty - YEAH!!!!

how long has she been potty trained? When my dd first became potty trained she peed constantly LOL eventully she started to hold it longer, andactully now I think she holds it too long LOL I feel like I am always telling her to go :sad2: 1 thing that I did that made it easier for me was to keep her potty right outside our bathroom... I really didn't want her going into the bathroom byherself - cause of all the stuff she could get into etc.. and this way she could run and use the potty on her own... wouldn't have to wait on me etc..

Ummm, I'm not trying to intrude or hijack your thread. But please count yourself lucky! DD is 3 1/2 & refuses to be potty trained. Well, she has a kind of modified potty training schedule that she's designed herself. :confused3

She will always "do #2" in the potty, but other than that, she will only occasionally do anything else. Some people say that she just might not be ready, but if you knew her & her stubborn personality, you would know that she is refusing to use the potty b/c she knows its something that she can control & that it's something that drives me nuts! (She is extremely manipulative & is almost brilliant when it comes to "not" doing what you want her to.)

Sometimes, she'll yell for me to come to bathroom & say that she's going to pee, so I'll get all excited & try to encourage her & let her know how proud I am of her, etc., etc. Then she'll stand IN FRONT OF the toilet & pee in her panties!!!! Then she takes off her panties, throws them down & runs off laughing. :headache: :headache: :headache: (Both of my boys were potty trained in a week - no problems at all - except at night, when we used pull ups.) :confused3

But, sometimes she'll go all day using the potty, so I don't know.

To address your OP, though, that does sound like a lot of liquid. That's one thing my mom pointed out to me. She thought that maybe she had to go too often b/c she drank so much juice & water. So far, cutting down on liquids hasn't worked extremely well for me (but, at this point I don't know what will....), but it's just something for you to think about.

I just wanted to let you know how jealous I was of you!;)

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Sounds like my DD 3 (who will turn 4 in 2 months). My daughter is also very lazy and does not see any reason why she need to actually get up to use the bathroom when she can just go in her diaper. But in the last few weeks she is starting to realize that the idea of going in your pants is just unpleasant. Meanwhile my son who is 18 months comes and gets me with his pants already off telling me to change his diaper asap. He may be potty trained before her. :rotfl: By the way my first dd was trained in 3 months at 2 year 9 months. ;)

A word of advise if they carry the sippy cup thing as they did a bottle all day this can be bad for their teeth as my pediatrician and dentist said "that it is equal to keeping a bottle by their side all day".

Not if it's only water in the sippy cup.

Yeah, I have to say that it is probally the liquids! I really like the idea of no more juice - just make it water. If shes anything like me, she will only drink it if shes dying of thurst, because I HATE water! So I think starting tomorrow, milk in the morning, and water for the rest of the day.
And to address the medical problems... she doesn't have any. Other than the fact that she is eating an awfull lot lately, but I think shes just going though a growth spurt.
Thanks for all the help girls!

My DD is just about the same age as yours...she'll be 3 in March, and she too is potty trained. I've started weaning her off of the sippy cup (what you described) last month. She only gets the sippy cup in the morning before lunch (milk or "juice") and before bed (with just water). The rest of the day she can have as much liquid as she wants, but she has to drink it out of a big girl cup or a water bottle (screw lid, like I drink). I put "juice" in caps because it is actually 25% grape juice and 75% water. My DD was drinking a lot too, because the sucking thing is soothing to them.
