Little ones and the water parks?

Hello,

We are trying to take our little ones-15 month old and 3 1/2 year old at the time of visit to Disney in Sept/Oct. I am wondering if it pays to get the water park option or even the park hopper. I just feel that they would be happy to go in the pool at the resort and I don't know if we get our money worth with them being so little. And with the park hopper my husband and I always got but with them it might be too much for them.

Any assistance is appreciated!

Considering the time of the year you are going, I would reccomend the water park option. When we last Sept, we all enjoyed the water parks. My nine month old niece loved the day at Typhoon Lagoon. She was out of the stroller all day and got to play in the water. Her favorite thing was the lazy river. IMO Typhoon Lagoon is better for smaller kids, they have a really nice kids area for your 3 yr old. My nephew was 4 at the time he also had a blast! Have a great trip!!

I think your little ones would have a great time at the water parks! Last year we went with our 4 kiddos, and our youngest were 2 1/2 and 8 months. The 2 year old loved it and we found them very easy with our baby too. We're definitely adding the water parks and more option again :thumbsup2

As a family with little kids, we don't do the Hopper option. One park a day is plenty for us :) . Plus if it's a park we don't spend a lot of time at (AK gets too hot for us after the morning and we don't tend to spend a lot of time at MGM) - we can always head to the water parks in the afternoon.

I know you'll have a great time no matter what you decide :thumbsup2

I vote YES for the water park (Blizzard Beach is our favorite!).

I vote NO for the park hoppers. WDW is just too big and you can waste so much time getting from one park to the next. Pick your park and spend the day there. If you are staying on property, take advantage of the Extra Magic Early/Late hours in the parks.

What are the rules regarding swim diapers? The little ones can't actually go in the pools and lazy rivers, right?

We are going in Sept with our DS1 and I was curious about the water parks and if he'd be able to actually swim. I assumed that he would not be able to go in.

Thanks for any info.

I would say that it depends on how long you plan on staying at WDW. We never make it to the water parks because we would rather spend our days in the parks. Which is okay with me. We cool off at the hotel pools. When DD is older, we will revisit the water park option.

Little ones can go in the pools and lazy river, etc. Per the website - "Children of diaper age are required to wear snug-fitting rubber pants over their diapers, or special swimming diapers here and throughout the water park."
I personally put a disposable swim diaper and non-disposable swim diaper/bathing suit on. Probably over kill - but I definitely don't want my kids to be the cause of them shutting down the water park if anything leaks out ;-)

IF you choose to do a water park, I would definately say Typhoon Lagoon is better for little kids. I used to work at Blizzard Beach and remember hearing kids complaining at Blizzard if they'd already been to Typhoon saying that they had a LOT more fun at Typhoon and that they just wanted to go back there. Typhoon just seems more appealing to kids of all ages, there are also nicer areas to sit and rest... Blizzard is a lot of cement!

Swim diapers are required in all Disney pools/water parks... other than that, just throw a bathing suit on over the swim diaper and you're good to go!

Yes - non-toilet trained kids have to wear swim diapers - but with them they can go in everything.

What a funny thought to think that WDW wouldn't allow kids in the pools?:lmao:

Thanks for all your help. We are still up in the air regarding doing the water parks even though I know my 3 yr old would have a great time, I think maybe he would enjoy any pool (resort) as well and then my 1 yr old wont know the difference.

I'm the minority & I wouldn't go with kids that young.

I haven't been to a water park since the mid-90's!

My kids for my trip in August will be 7, almost 5 & 2 1/2. Currently only the 7 yo can swim. I don't want to risk that the other 2 escape from mine or dh's watch there. I know they can do that at the resort pool but a water park is biggger.

So we are not going. I figure when we go again in 3 years my ds (almost 5 yo) will be swimming & my 2 1/2 yo wants to do everything her siblings do so she should be or very close to it.

I know I couldn't enjoy the water park with my kids so we will just stay at the resort pool. Plus the love to play in the sand so they can do that & swim in the pool. My oldest would be the only one to enjoy most of the park & even at that she'd still be a bit timid on some things.

Heck I want to stay at the BC again but I won't for the same reasons.

I guess I am paranoid over water-I grew up with a huge inground pool & my parents must of scared us XXXX less about going in when no one was around plus my dh's older brother drowned in a nearby lake when he was around 3 or 4. So I just don't want to take any chances.

I think it depends on your resort's pool. For instance, if you are at BC/YC you probably don't need the water park as that pool has plenty to offer, including a sandy bottom, which is of great interest to the little ones. We have waited for the water park and probably will go this year, our DD is now 5, but really because her 12 yo cousin will be along, thus allowing someone else to be the chaser instead of me.

I just figured it was like the pools on cruise ships. They do not allow non-toliet trained toddlers to go in the water.

I am so glad that Disney allows them to go in.
