We were all booked for late September and are now moving houses that weekend (out of the blue, no stress at all....totally fine and calm here.) So I had to cancel this week and did a quick peek at resort rates and on a whim we just booked for THIS WEEKEND at The Wilderness Lodge!

ahhhhh! At least it's pre-SWGE as that was stressing me out...we had booked before the opening date was announced and I was so worried about the DHS crowds.

So: FP selection obviously is no bueno. I'm not a huge ADR fan as I like to wing meals for the most part. I splurged for Park Hopper passes which we never do, but only have 2 park days.

Day 1: arrival day (land 5pm)
Day 2: DHS, hopefully get some same day FP for the big thriller rides....long break at the resort to swim and cool off....and then Epcot for dinner and Illuminations (!)
Day 3: RD at MK (maybe? Might be too tired...)....long break at the resort to swim and cool off....and then AK for dinner and I bought the After Hours tickets 9pm - midnight as it's our only hope for getting on FOP and other tough to get rides.
Day 4: fly home 9am. Go straight to work from airport. (ugh)

any general advice other than just go with the flow wand obsess over the app for FP to open up?

Awesome! I love those types of trips. They are different, so it's okay to experience it differently and more relaxed. Definitely don't give up on FP+, people cancel some crazyyy good FPs. Even sitting for just an hour refreshing can yield some good stuff. Availability literally changes every second.

I would plan on being more casual and seeing whatever rides you can get and maybe trying to spend more time at the pool or trying different things you haven't done before. Have a great trip!

Don't be too discouraged about FP. Last time we went in late April, it was packed and we decided to wing it. We found that last minute, the FP openings were changing every couple of minutes and after we got our first three out of the way, we could just stack them one right after the other, pretty much anything and everything we wanted. Even Flight of passage. Same for dinners. The night before, there were a lot of cancellations.

I went for one day this summer with my family, I had an annual pass and was able to take advantage of the summer AP offer and get cheap tickets for my family. The catch was the tickets had to be purchased in person on the day of use, so no advanced FP reservations. Normally I'm a huge planner with multiple park days to work with, and this was opposite of that. We had so much fun!!! When we had time to kill (waiting in line or traveling between parks) we'd search for FPs and we got some great ones. Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Test Track, Rock N Roller Coaster, etc. We visited all 4 parks and hit highlights in each, it was very fly by the seat of our pants and we had a blast! Have a fabulous last minute trip!!
