My DH and I are thinking about taking my father (Age 63,diabetic,& dyalisis dependant) to WDW for a weekend in Sept. or early October.
He has seen the WL on TV and would like to visit the resort. Since we would only be there for two nights, we have tossed around the idea of staying at a value resort and visiting the elaborate resorts on our last day at WDW. He did mention going to one park while we are there. My question to you DIS'ers: Is there a list of rides that are EVC friendly? He can stand and be moved from the scooter to the ride vehicle. I just want to visit the park that will enable him to see and do the most.
Thank you in advance for helping me make this trip magical for a man who is my hero. :goodvibes Jennifer

I think the biggest factor in this will be his abilities. For me transferring involves no standing and no walking. For others a transfer might be leaving the ECV at the entrance and walking through the queue. I'm guessing your Father is somewhere in between these.

Personally I'd say he'd enjoy EPCOT most especially the World Showcase area. Soarin would be a great ride for him and the World Showcase has very few "rides" but lots of neat things to see and visit.

On the other hand the Magic Kingdom is a very special place. It's got a lot of good rides and shows for him too and you could take a boat from the MK over to the Wilderness Lodge for lunch or dinner.

It really would be a hard choice for me. Each park has it's own special charm.

Thank you BillSears for responding to my question.
Yes, Dad can get out of his scooter but not for any great distance. Waiting in a line of any type problably wouldn't last for very long.
Dad has been to Epcot, about 5 years ago. He mentioned MGM/DHS. I think he would enjoy Light, Motor, Action, and maybe the great movie ride. I just don't want to spend $70.00 for just a few attractions, and was hoping there was a list somewhere that showed the accesible rides for those guests in EVC's. Have you had any experience at MGM/DHS?
Thanks again, Jennifer

At pretty much every attraction that doesn't accept ECVs but can accommodate wheelchairs, he can transfer right from the ECV to the chair - but then either he or a member of your party would have to propel him.

Basically almost every attraction line is "mainstreamed", whereby a person in a wheelchair or ECV can get all the way through the queue to the boarding area, and will have their wheelchair or ECV waiting for them when they exit. This is especially true in DHS, EC and AK.

At MK quite a few of the attractions wil have "alternate entrances", but again even with an alternate entrance he should be able to ride all the way to the boarding area.

If you go to the "disABILITIES FAQs" Page three has linbks to, among other places, the official Disney site whre you can read and download the various park's "Guide For Guests With Disabilities". The FAQ also has lots ofother useful information, and you can follow the link in my sinature to get directly there.
