Lisa's Working Towards A Dream Journal...Please Comment!

Hi! I am 41 years old. I'll be 42 on November 1st. I've recently had a realization. I need to do something about my weight. If I don't, more than likely I'm going to have more health problems. With a family history of heart disease & diabetes, I think doing something now is better than later. Now, let's talk about motivation or the lack of motivation. I have enough motivation for myself to get started. In the past, I haven't had enough to keep going. My DH gives me the impression, he wants me to have enough motivation for both of us. I've told him...I'm sorry but I don't.

My DH is my best friend. He is there for me. However, he isn't the most supportive. I have 3 babies (dogs); Sebastian, Figment & Minnie; which I love very much. I'm putting this journal out there to look back at the progress I've made & look at the areas I need to work on. I also hope to receive feedback from my fellow DIS neighbors. I'll have something to look forward to...reading & responding to the comments my fellow DIS neighbors have made.

My goals are these...I want to lose 50 lbs. between now and September 1st. To do this, I plan on eating better & working out on a consistent basis to get in better physical condition. I'm going to keep a food journal so I have a record of what I've had. As I mentioned earlier, I can look back at the progress I've made & look at the areas I need to work on. I want to make healthier food choices.

Well, this is my introduction. I guess all there is left to say is...Here I go!

I have the same family health issues. I'll be 47 in July and each of my 5 siblings became diabetic at 48. I feel like a walking time bomb some days!

But, there IS hope! We CAN do this TOGETHER!!!

Yeah, my Dad's Mother died of a heart attack. My Uncle on my Mom's side has diabetes. I'm trying to stay clear of additional health problems. I'm working on my cholesterol so I'm not put on medication for that. We CAN do this TOGETHER!!! That sounds like a plan! You have a great week too!

S: A little bowl of icecream, 2 F/F Fig Newton cookies & F/F whip cream

I worked out today on the treadmill & weight lifting for 45 minutes.

Hello, just stopping by to WISH another Lisa well on your journey to get healthier!

Great job on drinking that water! That is one area I always seem to struggle with. I share the same family history with you, and in addition I had gestational diabetes with my ds. I was on insulin for almost 5 monts of the pregnancy, and so I know my risk of Type II diabetes is even higher now. Let's just take one day at a time!!

One thought in looking at your journal though- are you taking in enough calories? It seems like you didn't eat a lot the last day or two. In my experience, I have really noticed that if I space out smaller portions over a longer period, I have more luck with losing weight. If I skip meals, my body goes into starvation mode, and holds onto the weight. Also, if you take a long time between eating, your blood sugars will spike a lot more than with "grazing." I hope that helps- I know it is really hard to do that sometimes, though.

I was out of town for a few days and fell off the wagon posting my food journal. I need to get back in the swing of things. I will start again today.

I need to eat a more substantial breakfast. I also need to try to have something for lunch. I just don't have much of an appetite.
