Lisa's - Kick Those Pounds to the Curb - Weight Loss Journey!

Wow! All I can say is wow! I was really having a hard time last week with my back and all that not so fun stuff. I am so thankful to see so many words of encouragement in my journal! I'm not surprised by the nice words, but rather by the number of responses! And, yes, I'm selfish and try I respond to each person in my own journal, as well as their journal. I like to review the responses that I've given! :)

I should give everyone a little background information. I have fibromyalgia among some other stupid things that sometimes makes daily activities a real pain. I see many doctors to keep it in check, but, like with anything in life, I can't be 100% all the time! So, last week was just one of those times when the pain in my body was crazy!

With that being said, I decided I need a little break today (I think I've had a break most of my life...LOL!) However, I need to relax today and not stress out over what I'm eating and, then, get back on the bandwagon tomorrow morning.

I did see a nutritionist late this week who was really awesome for my self-esteem, as well as (uh, eventually)...my waistline! LOL! (Note to self: Stop saying strange things on the DIS...people probably think you are really weird already!) Point being, I do know a lot about nutrition. She asked something about the type of milk I drink and I could tell her how many calories were in it. I know about good and bad carbs. I know about different types of meat, etc. So, basically, I do know a lot about nutrition...I was just not sure where to begin with myself! She told me what calorie level to stick with and created a specific plan just for me (and my stupid diseases!). I'm really anxious to get to work on myself!

All and all, I'm in a much better mood and wonderful state of mind. I don't want a pity party for myself, but it really sucks sometimes to deal with this pain. Today, I am practically pain-free and I am really enjoying that! :)

Here's to a happy and healthy weekend! I'll check in again tomorrow! :)

4 weeks to more fruits and vegetables:

Week One:
Focus on Breakfast: Try to eat at least four different types of fruits or 100% juice during the week for breakfast.
Ideas: Bananas, apples, oranges, grapefruit, melons, berries, peaches, plums, grapes and kiwi. Put fruit on your cereal or eat a banana on the go. Drink orange or grapefruit juice.

Week Two:
Focus on Snacks: Try to include fruits and vegetables in all your snacks this week.
Ideas: Carrots, celery, low-sodium tomato juice, cucumber sticks, radish halves, baby carrots, zucchini sticks, broccoli florets. Take a few of these to work.

Week Three:
Focus on Dinner: Try to include at least 2 or 3 servings of vegetables with every dinner you eat this week.
Ideas: A salad with 1 cup of leafy greens and a 1/2 cup of sliced veggies equals 2 servings. Include a steamed veggie sid dish and even an entrée based on veggies such as pasta primavera, vegetarian lasagna, chili, vegetarian pizza, etc.

Week Four:
Focus on Dessert: Treat yourself to fresh fruit for dessert this week.
Ideas: Fresh melon, berries, plums, peaches, cherries, apricots, bananas, grapes, oranges, and kiwi. Place a bowl of cubed fresh fruit on the table during dinner for everyone to eat afterwards. Serve a fresh fruit plate or cup for dessert.

What great ideas! Wouldn't it be so much easier if we all had someone to prepare all of our meals for us and we wouldn't have to do anything?? In a perfect world maybe...

Keep it up! Glad that you are feeling better! :flower:

It sure would be wonderful if our meals were prepared for us! I'm not that rich though! LOL! ;) If I could afford it, I would so do it...I can't stand to measure things out...I mean I do it, but it's still a pain.

Keep up the hard work! :)

Today’s nutritionist tip of the day:
(Provided by Northwest Community Healthcare)
Optimal Calcium Requirements:

Infant:
Birth-6 mo. - 400mg
6mo.-1 yr. - 600mg

Children:
1-5 yrs. - 800
6-10 yrs. - 800-1200

Adolescents/Young Adults:
11-24 yrs. - 1200-1500

Men:
25-65 yrs. - 1000 mg.

Women:
25-50 yrs. - 1000mg.
Over 50 yrs. (postmenopausal) - 1500mg.
Over 50 yrs. (on estrogen) - 1000mg.
Over 50 yrs. (not on estrogen) - 1500mg.
Over 65 yrs. - 1500 mg.
Pregnant and Nursing - 1200-1500mg.
--
How do I calculate the mg in each serving?
This only works for calcium, but simply look at the back of the nutrition label at the percent listed for calcium. Change the percent sign into a zero and that is the number of mg. for a serving of that product. For example, let's say your milk has 20% Calcium...change the % to a 0 and you have 200 mg. of Calcium in that product per serving.
--
Other meanings when you read the food labels:
"Contains (or Provides) Good Source of Calcium" - means - 100-190 mg. calcium
"High (or Rich in, Excellent) Source of Calcium" - means - 200 mg. or more calcium
"More (or Fortified, Enriched, Added)" - means - at least 10% more calcium than nature gave it

Today has been a very good day so far! Again, almost a completely pain-free day! I am so taking advantage of it...I have got to get some errands done before I go back to work! AH! Oh, I wanted to add that I'll be posting a tip from my nutritionist each day. I'd like to get them all typed up before school starts because who knows how much time I will have then! LOL! Have a wonderful rest of the weekend everyone! :)

Daily Goal: Get back in the game and stay OP all day! :)

Breakfast:
Whole Wheat Bread (2 slices)
Margarine (1 Tbsp.)
Mixed Berries - Blueberries and raspberries (1 c.)
Milk (1 c.)

Lunch:
Whole Wheat Bread (2 slices)
Light Mayo (1 Tbsp.)
Mixed Berries - Blueberries and raspberries (1 c.)
Mustard (1 tsp.)
Honey Turkey (3 oz.)

Snack:

Dinner:

Water:

Guidelines:
No soda
Exercise daily
Follow a food plan
Limit 1 snack free choice per day
Drink at least 64 oz. of water a day.
Eat whole foods - avoid to much processed stuff.

Thoughts for the Day:
:teeth: I love my grocery store! Blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries all on sale - buy 1, get 1 free! Woo hoo! :)
:teeth: Per my nutritionist's advice, I bought a new margarine to try. I bought the Country Crock with calcium. It tastes pretty good actually and the extra calcium can't hurt! :)
:teeth: I have to start eating as soon as I get up. The problem is that sometimes I'm starving throughout the day and other times I'm not! Trust me, that will all change in a few weeks. I'll be eating everything in sight trying to keep my energy up! LOL!

Hi Lisa,

Glad you are having another pain free day! I am enjoying reading the nutritionist tips you are posting too, very informative. Hope that you have a great day, sounds like you have a good one planned out!

Can you believe the summer is almost over and school starts up again soon?! I work in housing at a college and our student staff returns for training in a week and a half! Oy!!! haha!!! I can't believe it!!

Ok, before that thought drives me too mad, I will wish you a great day and head into the kitchen to make some tuna!

Bye!
Mike :goodvibes

Hi, Lisa! Looks like you are doing well so far! Keep up the great work! :cool1:

Good for you for going to the nutritionist Lisa - glad she was able to reaffirm things you already knew - that helps I know.

You are doing great and thanks for those helpful nutritionist tips. I'll look forward to seeing them. Maybe you should put a post up on the main WISH board each day - I'm sure a lot of people could benefit from the info - if you're up to it.

Keep on
Chris

You know I may not have enough money for a full time chef but I was thinking I might could afford someone off of the unemployment line to walk around behind me and just slap fattening food right out of my hands anytime I started to cheat. I think I'll check out the minimum wage in my state........

Glad you're feeling better Lisa! Hope you have a great week.

Phew! I'm wiped! I can barely think! LOL! I went to school today to start cleaning and my lovely body of mine decided that it would like to get up at 6am! I wanted to get to school early, but not before the birds were awake! I cleaned, cleaned, cleaned and will go back tomorrow and then I should be done until school starts. :)

Lisa
