Lisa's Journal (Life on the "Beach" - Part 2 all the way to goal!)

2 pounds gone!!! :wave2: YAY!! :bounce: :bounce:

How exciting when that scale finally cooperates! You've been working so hard and it's paying off!

I admire your dedication to the FIRM tapes! I've heard they're hard and I'm intimidated by them. But I've also heard they work wonders for your muscles - you will be looking great for your trip!

Here we go, Lisa, onward and downward into another week! :sunny:

:jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1:
BUH_BYE 2 pounds. Way to go, my cut friend.
Have a great day.
Beth

morning

Yes! on getting rd of those pesky 2 pounds and here's a :sunny: for monday

Glad to hear that I might have saved you some time. I've made the broccoli with sharp cheddar cheese as well. I would shred it if you have the time before microwaving it though. It really comes out good!

:jumping1: 2 1lbs gone! :jumping1:

Congratulations! That is great - what size weights are you using right now? I can't wait for my Firm tapes to get here so that I can get started! I'll be doing my Walk Away The Pounds tapes until they get here so that I'll be in somewhat of a bit of shape. Maybe I'll dust off the old Tae-bo tapes

~Amanda

lisa, that is so great that you and dh are enjoying this so much! how sweet of him to constantly be thanking you  . what a wonderful positive change in both of your lives. i'm so glad you have such a great partner on this journey, and that you are both benefitting from it so much :bounce:

February 23, 2004 (Monday) Day 85 on the Beach

I don't have too much time this afternoon so I'll just post my menu for the day and try to stop by later. I will say that I haven't been all that hungry the past day or so. That's one reason I only ate a couple of small salmon patties for dinner. Hopefully my appetite will pick back up soon.

Menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes with 1% milk and 2 small sausage patties
S: 7 whole almonds
L: leftover beef stroganoff over 1/2 cup of long grain converted rice
S: Dannon light and fit 60 calorie yogurt (peach)
D: made chili for the family but I ate 2 salmon patties and spoonful of cole slaw with a diet vanilla pepsi

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did my FIRM cardio video this morning and water was a 6.0.

That's a wrap for Monday!

Doe - thanks for checking on me. If you are considering doing the FIRM the body sculpt system 1 is very good. BSS2 is sort of hard and I don't know if I will ever work up to being at that level but I can dream. Take care!

CourtasanSatine - thanks to you for stopping by! I am happy about the 2 pounds and hope with cutting out the dessert at night that I can get back to my weekly 2 pound loses.

Amanda - I am so excited about your using the FIRM work outs. You will love them! I actually started working out with the FIRM before I started SBD and it's been about a year off and on. So right now I'm pretty confident using the 3, 5 and 8 pound weights they recommend but I definitely had to work my way up to using those heavy 8 pound weights. Don't forget to let me know when you get started.

Marcia - Hi! It is nice to have DH working along side with me on this. I know that's the main reason I am being so successful. I've tried so many other plans before but have not had the results I have experienced with SBD. We are each other's biggest cheerleaders. Thanks for stopping by!

hey lisa, just stopping by to say hi  . you're doing a great job, not that that's anythign new :p

are you maybe getting sick? could that be why your appetite is low? hmm. well, i never understood forcing yourself to eat when you're not hungry, so just stick with what you're doing. hopefully, like you said, your appetite will pick back up soon!

hope you have a great day today :sunny:

HI LIsa,
I tried the Total Body Scuplt with abs last night and worked up quite a sweat. I had to fast forward through some of the leg work using the Fanny Lifter though. I didn't use weights last night since I was following the Beginner person, except for when she did. I had 5 lbs weights which is what I usually use. 8lbs is a log way off! :) I watched the Cario Scuplt last night and although they use the fanny lifter a lot I think I can modify it without the lifter and just work on the steps. I ordered the lifter and they said 3 to 6 weeks for delivery - I am hoping it gets here a lot faster.

Thanks for the encourgagement girl! LIke I said I am hoping that using the firm plus my running will really help reshape and tone my body. It needs it! ;)

Your plan today looks great and your salmon cakes sound so good! How do you make them?
~Amanda

excellent job Lisa.

I haven't read all the posts/replies but I did go back a few pages and go from there.

I've been on South Beach since 9/29/03.

You've inspired me to start journaling (sp?) what I eat on a daily basis. I started that for the 1st 2 weeks of the diet but let it go by the way-side.

Continued success!!!

February 24, 2004 (Tuesday) Day 86 on the Beach

I think my appetite is slowly returning. I couldn't bring myself to eat much last night though. Ugh! I don't feel like I'm getting sick but I do think I might be overdoing it a tad on the exercise front. I am making myself take a rest day on Thursday. If someone would have told me just a few short months ago I was actually going to be forcing myself NOT to exercise, I would have laughed in there face! I fear I'm addicted. The FIRM videos give you such a great "high" for hours and hours after you work out that I almost feel depressed on the days I take a break. Maybe I'll just ride my exercise bike on days I don't do the FIRM. Yea, that's the ticket, I'll try that.

Menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes with 1% milk and 3 bacon strips
S: 7 whole almonds
L: leftover chili with a little light sour cream and some shredded cheese
S: 60 calorie Dannon light and fit yogurt (peach)
D: Wasn't really hungry but I did eat a BLT with mayo on whole wheat bread and a diet vanilla Pepsi for dinner

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did FIRM body sculpt - upper body (BSS1) and water was a 5.0. Not too bad. I do think I need at least 1 if not 2 rest days to give my muscles a break since adding the 8 pound weights.

That's a wrap for Tuesday!

Macia - thanks for checking on me! I really do appreciate it. I don't think I'm sick at least not physically :). I think I'm overdoing the exercise thang. I have to keep telling myself that I do weigh over 240 pounds - even though I feel a lot thinner than that. I need to humbly recognize my limitations but I don't want to use my weight as excuse not to push myself, know what I mean? Anyway, have a good day!

Amanda - that's so great you've started FIRMing! I hope you don't have to wait that long for your fanny lifter. That box is awesome!!!! Do you have the DVD collection or VHS? Is it BSS1 or BSS2? I don't recognize the title of your work out. I'm so excited for you!!! I know you'll have wonderful results. The salmon patties are nothing fancy but I like them. I just take the salmon from a can, take the bones out and mix in chopped onion, bell pepper, an egg, parmesan cheese and seasonings. I make patties and fry them until crisp on the outside in canola oil. They are pretty good.

Ariel's Dad - Thanks for visiting me! I can't believe I've actually kept up a journal this long. I honestly didn't intend to keep up journaling past the first 30 days but it has really helped me on my journey. I'm going to check out your journal this afternoon. Thanks for stopping by and I wish you continued success as well!

Lisa, all this talk of FIRMing is really making me curious! I may have to find one of these FIRM DVDs and give it a try. I'd love to find something that I actually MISS on the off days like you say you miss your FIRM workouts! :p

Keep it up, girlfriend! :happy1: You continue to inspire me!! ::yes::

i'm glad that you've realized that you may need to take a break from the exercise. i know it's hard! i wish i could go out and run every day, but i know the rest is important as well ::yes:: . it may take a lot to restrain yourself, but i think that it will be good for you in the long run. or even if you just switch it up and do lighter exercise on your "off" days. sounds like you've got it pretty well figured out already anyway (riding the bike instead) :)

hope you have a great day today :sunny:

February 25, 2004 (Wednesday) Day 87 on the Beach

I'm still finding myself not very hungry today. Not too much more to report on. TOM is going to be here over the next day or two so I'm feeling a little out of sorts. I'm wearing a suit today that is too big on me. It's actually one of the biggest sizes I own so it's not a big big deal but I do see how far I have come and can't believe this outfit used to be uncomfortably tight. It's a good feeling. I can't buy new work clothes but I've got quite a few items that are more spring-ish one size smaller so that should be okay as the weather warms.

Menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes with 1% milk and 2 small sausage patties
S: 7 whole almonds
L: leftover chili with a spoonful of light sour cream and lf shredded cheese
S: Dannon light and fit yogurt (peach)
D: bufallo chicken strips (2) and 3 spoonfuls of homemade cole slaw sweetened with splenda (I did want something sweet before bed so I ate a couple of spoonfuls of no sugar added ice cream)

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did the FIRM Cardio Sculpt work out this morning. Water was a 3.5. I just couldn't bring myself to drink a lot of water. I don't know what it is about "that time of the month" but I find I just can't swallow the stuff like I usually do.

That's a wrap for Wednesday!

Amanda - I just went to the link you provided and you got your FIRM set for a very good price! That is BSS2. I had an opportunity to view the cardio video and it was a little too intense for me. But it does have my favorite master instructor Allie. She is just so much fun! I noticed the women looked much more buffed in the BSS2 than in the original set I have. I do hope you enjoy your work outs! Get ready to "feel the burn!" :)

Doe - it's nice that you stopped by. Thanks so much for encouraging me. I do miss the FIRM work outs when I don't do them. I miss mostly that exercise "high" you get. It stays with me all morning and into the afternoon. I just don't get this feeling from walking or riding my exercise bike.

Marcia - Thanks for checking on me. It's so hard to take a break. I just want to this extra weight and all this flab gone - yesterday! But I know I didn't gain the weight overnight and no matter how intense I make my workouts, it's not going to come off overnight. I'm trying to strike a balance. Thanks for the encouragement!

Hey Lisa,

I hope you feel like your normal self soon.

All of you FIRM believers have me curious. I do Curves, so I get weight training with that. Are the cardio FIRM tapes without weights? I need to kick up my exercise, but I don't want to stress my muscles too much. Your advice would be appreciated.

Have a good Friday.
Beth

February 26, 2004 (Thursday) Day 88 on the Beach

DH and I went grocery shopping last night. I don't usually go with him because the bill always seems to be $20-$40 more when I go but this shopping trip was an exception. DS asked me to buy him some donuts since we were in the store already. I think out of all the foods that I don't miss anymore, donuts would have to be the exception. They just always smell so good. Fortunately, my son likes my favorite type of donut. Why do I say fortunately? Because for some reason my favorite donuts make me violently ill when I eat them. I think it's the creme in the boston creme donuts. I don't even like to look at them now. I have in the past eaten them and enjoyed it and not more than thirty minutes later ended up in the bathroom. DH would always shake his head at me and ask me why? Why would I eat something that my body did not agree with. My answer was always the same. I would smile and say, "Because it tastes sooo gooooddd!!!!". Now I have more sense. Those donuts are bad for me in so many ways that I can buy them for DS and not think twice about it!

I was talking to my sister the other day and I told her that I was trying to decide if I was going off my eating program while at Disney. She looked at me kind of funny and said, "Of course you won't go off your program. It's a way of life for you." Just that matter of factly. Like there could be no other alternative for me. I thought about it after she left and I realized she was right. I don't know how long it takes for something to become a habit but Monday will be three months for me (and I get to change my exercise clippie too!) so hopefully this way of life is more than a cliche and it's really how I live! So many exciting things are happening in my life and I know I owe a good deal of it to staying on plan, seeing results and having a positive attitude.

Menu for today:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes with 1% milk, 2 scrambled eggs with cheese and 2 small sausage patties
S: 7 whole almonds
L: grilled bacon chicken ranch salad with a diet cola
S: Dannon light and fit 4 oz. yogurt (peach)
D: grilled cheeseburger on 2 slices of ww bread with bacon, mayo, lettuce, tomato and mustard - I skipped dessert and drank water before bed

Exercise/Water Gauge:
No exercise today in keeping with my promise to take at least 1 day a week as a break from my FIRM workouts. I actually feel refreshed from sleeping in a bit and giving my body a break. Water was 4.5. Not too bad for a week day.

That's a wrap for Thursday!

Beth - The FIRM cardio tapes are with weights but you can certainly do them without the weights. What I love most about the FIRM workouts is how good you feel afterwards. I can't describe it. You have to experience it to understand what I am talking about. The work out "high" you get from exercising stays with you for hours and hours after you work out. It's the greatest feeling and that is what makes it hard for me to take a break for a day. You lose some of that "high" when you don't work out. I probably sound like a drug addict or something but it's true in my case and several other ladies I know that work out with the FIRM have reported the same feelings.

Marcia - I hope you have a great day and a wonderful weekend!

The Grilled Bacon Chicken Ranch salad you had from lunch - was that from McDonald's? I love those things. :D

February 27, 2004 (Friday) Day 89 on the Beach

I don't have much time to post today so I'll just post my menu and exercise/water gauge. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have more time for specifics.

Menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes with 1% milk and 2 small sausage patties
S: 7 whole almonds
L: grilled cheeseburger with a salad and lf ranch dressing
S: 4 oz. peach light and fit yogurt
D: toppings off 4 slices of pizza (cheese, mushroom, pepporoni and sausage), 3 hot wing pieces and a diet vanilla pepsi (no dessert but lots of water instead)

I did FIRM cardio sculpt this morning.

That's a wrap for Friday!

Jerry - yes, I had the McD's salad. They are really good. :)

Hi there! Sorry I haven't posted lately, but I have been keeping an eye on my DIS buds!

I can relate about the wondering whether to stay completely on plan at WDW. I won't know for sure until I actually get there, but I can tell you for certain that I'm not falling completely off the wagon. Just not sure how I'll work in some treats here and there. I truly admire your conviction Lisa.

You're doing so great exercising. I've only previewed my FIRM dvds and still don't have the sculpting stick or fanny lifter. I'm going to the mall tomorrow to see if I can find them. If not, I'll end up ordering them from FIRM Direct. I've decided to start on Monday morning anyway, and just do what I can until I get the other goodies.

Keep up the good work Lisa, you're truly an inspiration!:D
