Liquor/Food Store...or Delivery?

Hi smola09's mom:

Thanks for your response. I did some research and I really like GG. I sent them an email asking about what kind of wine they are able to get and included a few brands. They responded very quickly, able to get one of the wines I listed, provided a price range and was very professional. So far I'm very impressed with their customer service. Prices for their items seem reasonable as well as their delivery charge.
Thanks again!

I have only ever heard good things about them too...didn't know we could have wine delivered though. That would be FANTASTIC! If you don't mind my asking...what kinds/brands did they say and how was the price range? We usually spend about $10-15/bottle here in NJ, and we love cabernet sauvignon and sauvignon blanc. It would be great to get a few good bottles for less than $20 each.

So far I'm very impressed with GG and currently working on the list. I asked if they could get Barefoot or Vendange wine and the price for the 750ml and 1.5Ltr bottles. They are not able to get the Vendange wine but able to Barefoot. The 750ml Barefoot is $8.99 plus tax and 1.5Ltr Barefoot ranges from $13.99-$14.99 plus tax. Prices seem to be reasonable. I figure keep it simple since we'll end up having a nice bottle of wine at dinner.

Another question I had is if I was able to make changes once the order was placed. You can make changes (add, delete, change quantity, etc.) and will need to send them an email (info@gardengrocer.com) with the detailed information. The order can be edited up to 24 hours prior to delivery.

If you plan on going with GG, send them an email and see if they carry the brand of wine you like and ask for a price. I hope you'll be able to get the wine that you like.

Happy Planning!

Thank you so much for sharing all of that! It will be extremely helpful for us! Our days of taking a cab to the Hess station are over! :cool1:

:rotfl2: There ya go!! One less thing to worry about and no more excursions to the Hess station! Life is good!:lmao:

BTW... since you plan on ordering liquor... GG will ask you to fax/email them a copy of your driver's license to verify that your legal drinking age.

I placed our order before and when you reach the check out section, there will be a box to your right with "special instructions". Use that box to order any alcoholic beverages that you would like to include with your order.

More than happy to help. Everyone on the boards has taken the time to assist me with my upcoming trip to WDW so I'm glad that I can finally help out others. :) If you have any questions please let me know.

BTW... since your in NJ as well.. I hope you are OK since a good portion of the state is under a flood watch and high wind warning this evening. Thank goodness it's not snow.

Happy planning!

I was thinking the gift shop in AK had some African wines but I haven't been there in a year or 2 so I don't know if they still have them but it would be cool to check out. Does anyone know?

I bought some really nice wine in Italy and France in Epcot too. Canada in Epcot sells some nice Ice Wine I believe. I haven't tried that yet.

Just another option if you want to try something different......

Thanks so much for the information. I'm hoping that DH/I can purchase some unique wines in Epcot or at one of the resorts if we get enough time to visit them during our vacation. Always like to try something different.:)

We were very please with our recent transaction with Garden Grocer. Just as a disclaimer, because I did not realize this, the $40 minimum for an order does NOT include the price of alcohol. You need to place at least a $40 order and then they place the order for alcohol "as a courtesy." They also charge the two transactions separately. You only need to pay the delivery charge for one order. I would definitely use them again.

Thank you so much! :) Fortunately, we're mostly dry here...a little water in the basement, but nothing major. You're right...thank goodness it's not snow! Hope all is well with you, too.

Thanks for your feedback regarding GG and glad that you had a good experience with them. I spoke to customer service two nights ago re: the liquor order and as you indicated it was a separate transaction which I expected. They are very accommodating, friendly and professional. I can see why they are highly rated.

Hi Tinker_Belle:
How far in advance should I contact them/order?
DH/I are going in May and I was able to place the order as well as locking in the specific time frame I preferred. That was another question I had for GG when I contacted them via. email. GG indicated that they will obtain orders up to one year in advance to lock in the date/time frame. I'm very pleased with GG.

Hi Enzo's Dad:

Thanks for the information. Is the two mile walk round trip or each way from SSR? I wouldn't mind the walk but since DH has issues with back/hip it might be a tab bit too much for him.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I would say 2 miles each way. We tried taking the city busses but missed our stop. It still got us to within a half mile of the Winn Dixie. A word of advice to anyone is that a Supermarket does not mean the same thing everywhere. What Orlando calls supermarkets we call Convenience stores.

Goodings is crazy expensive, as is The Market on Rt. 192. The best deals are going to come from a Walmart, and there are several around Disney. Publix isn't bad, but I have done the price comparisons and Publix doesn't come anywhere near as low as Walmart groceries. Alternatively, I have done grocery delivery too. The prices were high but it was very convenient. A friend told me once: save money before you go on vacation, not while you are on vacation. If you subscribe to that philosophy, grocery delivery is a great option.
