I know things like water, wine, pop, etc clearly do not belong in your checked luggage to the ship. However, where do I draw the line?

Can I put my shampoo, moisturizer, hair spray, sun screen and liquid soap in my checked luggage or do I have to put it in my carry on?

Thanks.

If you do, I'd make sure they're in really good ziplock bags and well cushioned. I normally bring on my makeup & toiletries.

Shampoo and liquid soap aren't things I would personally bring with me. I make-do with the freebies.

Yes, only beverages are required to be in your carry on bags. Things like shampoo, lotion, etc can be in your checked bags. As noted, pack it securely in a plastic bag "just in case".

If you google "Disney Cruise Luggage Pile" and click on images, you'll see why the ziplocks are important. That and the Air Canada baggage handler video that went around a few years back. :scared:

Learn well from my experience children... If you have Poo-Pourri, TRIPLE BAG (at least) THAT BABY.

I lost one shirt and had to forego wearing several others on my last trip to avoid overpowering people with the lovely smell of Lavender-Vanilla. And it was in a ziplock bag wrapped in another plastic bag. The leakage, however, happened on the plane to Miami!!

Yes, my greatest fear. At least it was a lovely lavender. :)

Just QUITE overpowering having been in the luggage like it was. I was almost in tears when my housekeeper at the Hilton Garden Inn in Miami Beach checked to make sure everything was ok with the room (the one I selected through online check in wasn't available because the previous guest opted to stay over, so even though I ended up with a MUCH better room, they were extra extra conscious of making sure things were ok) and she thought it was something in the room that I was upset with so I assured her that no, it was that something leaked in my luggage and that is what the super strong smell was and she got maintenance up to unlock my window so it could be opened to air things out a bit.

That's a shame. Did the smell ever come out or did you just throw it out?

One shirt was a loss - mainly because color had leaked onto it from another shirt. The shirt that bled, ironically, you cannot tell where it bled as no spot looks lighter than another. The smell pretty much came out in laundry after I got home. A couple of things seem to have a slight smell, but it's not overpowering, and I'm not convinced it's not just my nose expecting it.

Yeah, that'd be the last time I would buy anything in that scent, as I would forever associate it with such an accident. :)

Yeah. I'm actually gun-shy about checking a bag now. I started doing some packing for my upcoming fathom trip (one advantage of having to schlep my laundry a few blocks to the laundromat and hang out while it washes and dries is I have WAY more underwear than probably anyone should have, so it's not a huge deal to start - plus it still being frigid here and the cruise leaving from Miami and going to Cuba and the DR I can pack warm weather clothes without fear) and have gotten most everything save for last minute stuff into a carry-on. For 10 days! And I'll hit Lush for some bar shampoo and conditioner so I won't have to fill my ziplock with DCL samples. LOL.

The less liquid the better!!

I had shampoo, etc in Vera Bradley makeup bags and did have a small leak from DD's body wash which was in a 3oz travel bottle. It didn't make it out of the makeup bag though. We also had DD's bottles of PediaSure sucked up in those food saver bags. Those were fantastic! TSA cut one bag open to test it, but the others were fine.
When my inlaws pack mini wine bottles they also use the food saver bags so they don't have leaks. They've never had an issue either.

As far as I know, the PediaSure needs to be carried on.

Ditto the wine - though it is only 2-750 ml bottles per person over 21. Any wine, beer, or other alcohol found in the suitcases will be confiscated.

You got that right.

I should have specified better, we carried wine on in carry ons. My in-laws have flown to WDW with wine in their checked luggage previously. I didn't mean to suggest anyone try to smuggle it on. That really came out wrong. Sorry about that!
The PediaSure wasn't an issue at all though. Our bags were put through the scanners and nothing was ever said about it being in there. I'm sure we just got lucky. We did carry on two six packs of it in addition to the remainder of what we brought from home.
