Hi, I leave for WDW in 2 days :woohoo: and I have a question about bringing liquid in the carry-on. We want to bring sunblock in our carry-on along with our bathing suits because we will be at the resort pretty early and if the room is not ready we will go swimming. DH and DS burn easily so we will need plenty of sunblock. I read online that you can put 3 oz. bottles in a quart size bag for your carry-on.. I bought a large bottle of sunblock to put in my checked bag. I bought a small bottle for the carry-on. I just realized that the small bottle is 4 oz. As of right now I do not think I am bringing any other liquids in the carry-on. Do you think one 4 oz. bottle of sunblock will be a problem?

Thanks,

Loralie

Yes, it will be a problem (assuming TSA agent is doing their job). Liquids can be a maximum of 3.4oz/100mL and your sunscreen is bigger than that.

Either find a smaller bottle or plan on buying some at the resort/airport if you need some before your checked luggage comes.

Your bottle is to big, and it won't be allowed. You can find smaller ones, I have one that came attached to a larger bottle as a gift with purchase.

You can have multiple small bottles, as long as they fit in your quart baggie and are the proper size. Or each person can carry-on their own small bottle.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer comes in a 3 oz. tube, and it is a great sunscreen. It comes in SPF 45, 55 and 70 (maybe 30 as well).

Thanks for the info guys. They sell in CVS a little clear bag with four 3 oz. clear bottles in it and it says Airline approved for carry-on bags. I thought since they allow four 3 oz. bottles which equals 12 oz. if I only brought one 4 oz. bottle would be alright. I am not going to take any chances so I will use the 3 oz. bottles.

I am so excited for my trip! :yay::woohoo::cheer2::banana:

I agree, if they are doing their job they will take it and pitch it. I understand the part about being allowed to take 2 3 oz bottles, but not one 4 oz bottle, but those are the rules. again, you could put them in the bag if you wanted to, but go in assuming that it's going to get taken and you'll have to get something on the other end.

Reinforcing crashbb's and dburg30's posts. My Nutrisse shampoo and conditioner bottles happen to be the 3.4 ounce size (packaged in France, I think, so 100ml). My 3-1-1 bag got VERY CLOSE inspection the first time I brought those with me.

We purchased a 1 oz spray can of Lysol. I know it's under the 4 oz. limit (or whatever it may be) but are aerosol cans allowed on the plane in the carry-on bag? It looks like a binaca bottle (is binaca still around? LOL).

I'd like to know the answer to this question also. I would like to take a small can of Lysol spray with me, but i'm worried that they will take it.

Personal care aerosols in small sizes are OK for carry-on - I have taken hair spray on before. I don't know if they consider Lysol a "personal care" item, though. I am bringing Clorox Wipes instead of an aerosol spray - I know the wipes are OK.

No - Lysol aerosol isn't allowed as either carry on or in your checked bags. By definition "personal care" means it is used on the body.

Oops, don't tell my DW she always packs the Lysol spray in our checked bag, and it has never been taken, (yet)

Just something to think about for future trips - it's pretty easy to just buy sunblock when you get to Flordia - it's sold at both the airport and Disney. Not the cheapest place to buy sunblock... but it probably ends up not being that much more $$ than buying small tubes, and saves a lot of hassle.

I agree with the part about buying the sunblock in Florida - is it really that much more expensive? They do sell it in the airport I believe.

I don't buy it because I've seen only the large spray bottles at the airport and Disney (I don't like lotion sunscreen) so on a short trip I can't use it up - and if I can't carry it on going to Florida, I can't carry it home. So I've bought some sunscreen wipes. They are not cheap but they will last me a few short trips. And they can be carried back and forth in carryon luggage.

CVS sells a 3 oz sunscreen spray bottle. But it looks huge. The TSA agents always check it, so when I carry one I have learned to tilt it so they can see the 3 oz on the bottle without opening the baggie. It also takes up lots of space in the baggie, so I'm switching to the wipes. They are more expensive but will last for more trips. 3 oz of spray sunscreen doesn't last more than 2 days.

I asked TSA about my 1 oz can of spray Lysol which I ended up not taking with me on our recent trip. They said that it CAN be taken through because it is less than the 4 oz limit; it doesn't fall under the aerosol banned items category (dunno why). I asked at MCO, SAT and MFE airports and all 3 TSA agents I asked at each respective airport agreed that my 1oz can of spray Lysol would be ok to take through the security checkpoint and onto the plane.

I, too, was worried about getting burnt the first day and wanted to avoid the skyrocket prices of sunscreen at the airport or WDW.

Yesterday, I found a 1 oz tube of Coppertone Sport 30 spf for $1.00. :cool1:It was in the beauty section, in the toothpaste aisle along with the other travel sized products (mouthwash, shampoo, etc).

The store had a similar tube of the same stuff in the sunscreen aisle but it was 3.97 I think. It was just a bit bigger 1.5 oz versus 1.0 oz.

I also bought travel sized bottle of Germ-X hand santizer for 79 cents. It is 2.5 oz. I found a 2 oz. bottle of Suave kids shampoo (the same one my kids use) for a 1.00 as well. :thumbsup2I figure it was just as cheap to buy the shampoo for one dollar then to buy the empty bottle for 1.00 and pour the shampoo in it. For me, it probably is a cost saver since I would have made a mess and wasted shampoo trying to get it in the small bottle. :rotfl2:

Actually you can get trial sizes of banana boat and coppertone for free. At Target (and I'm sure probably at other stores) the trial sizes are 99 cents or $1 each.

Here is a printable coupon for $1/off one Coppertone which = FREE trial size. Hit the back button and you can print up to two coupons per computer.

In the 5/3 Smartsource newspaper coupon section there is a coupon for $1/off one Banana boat sunscreen which = FREE trial size

Back in the good ol days it used to be 4 ounces of liquid so I took a 4 ounce bottle of my favorite face washing stuff only to learn that it was (at that time) reduced to 3.4 ounces allowed and they took the bottle. :guilty: At least it was on the flight home. The Chicago airports NEVER catch anything when you're flying out.
