Hi all,

Was thinking of suprising the DDs (22 & 18) with a girls trip to NYC for 1 or 2 nights to see Lion King in March or maybe April. They have never been, and its been many years since I was in NYC. Can anyone give me hotel recommendations near by?

Thanks for any help!

Gail

You have the Renaissance at Times Square. There is a Marriott Marquis. Also Check Hilton and a few others. I know there is a couple of hotels under DVC.

I've always liked the Millennium Broadway. Very close to the theatre, but not directly on Times Square, so it's a little quieter. Last time we had a beautiful view that did look down on Times Square, but there was no reallly loud noise. We could walk to everthing, which was great.

Try The Michelangelo Hotel, it's a beautiful hotel and it is the only place I stay on business. It is a short walk from Times Square as it is on 51st and 7th. It is a 4 - 5 Star hotel (depending on which website you use to get the rating). From a TripAdvisor.com point of view it is the 15th Best Hotel to stay in NYC.

Last trip we stayed at the Fitzpatrick hotel -- it's across from Grand Central and worked well for us -- but we didn't mind walking or taking the subway. Another hotel we looked at was The Muse which was also very nice. While not in the theatre district, both are relatively close. Have a great time!

We enjoyed the Westin Times Square. Pretty sure it was less than a block from the first pic below. It also allowed us to book above 29 floors and get a corner room for 2 views. The bedding was incredible.

The Westin pictured above has a back entrance that comes out on the other side of the street from Lion King. There are rooms in March and April as low as $199. I've stayed there several times. They've also got a spa and health club with a bank of windows looking out over the city from the treadmills. If you are a member of Starwood - that is their rewards program.

You can easily walk to many other attractions from this location and the subway entrance is also on the corner from the hotel - buy an all day pass. For cheap broadway tickets there is a kiosk up on 47th at Broadway called TKTS booths - www.tdf.org. You probably won't find Lion King there easily but they had Mary Poppins last week.

Another Monroe County DVC'er here. Stayed at the Marriott Millenium, loved it and it has a rotating restaurant/lounge that DF and I had a drink at after the play. Your DD's would love it.

We love the Westin (43rd Street) too but don't get too excited over the pictures. Notice jade1 wrote a couple of pictures were from "From Rockefeller."

The view of the Empire State Building (34th Street) and the George Washington bridge (175th Street) look like the view from the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center and not from the Westin.

Go to the Westin for it's terrific location but not for the view in the pictures. It is a fantastic hotel in an amazing location.

There are two Sheratons in Times Square. We stayed at one of them and walked to Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. Make sure you get cheesecake at Juniors and be sure to get the best seats you can at Lion King to see the costumes up close. We were in the back and wish we had been up front more. We also did the Hop On/Hop Off bus that took us all over the city and would drop you off then pick you back up...very efficient and you got a tour guide also. The night trip to Brooklyn on that bus was very nice.

Thanks everyone! Checking out all your wonderful information. I'm thinking of surprising the girls with cards on valentines day with clues for this mini trip and see if they can figure it out.

Thanks!

Gail

My Mom, Sister, & I went to NYC for a girls weekend to see Wicked last year. We stayed at the Buckingham. It's right down the street from Carnegie Hall and we stayed in a 1 BR suite. It had a full kitchen, living room with pull out couch and a king size bed in the bedroom. It was very comfortable and roomy (don't get that a lot at the hotel rooms in NYC). We were able to get it on special for about $300 a night. Hope you have a great time. We saw the Lion King Broadway Tour in CT last weekend. It was increadible! I would love to see it on Broadway. :cool1:
