Anyone seen or going to see The Lion King in Atlanta this month at the Fox Theatre? We are on Thursday and wondering if anyone has any advice for first timers at the Fox.

I’ll be there with my wife and daughter.

We have been to the Fox a few times but far from experts. In the past we have picked a restaurant in walking distance and made an evening. Most recently we ate at Poor Calvin’s before Hamilton.

This time I’m not sure what we are going to do as far as eating before the show. This time it will probably be something quick.

I hope the show is good.

Exact same boat. Want to eat before the show, but I have yet to figure that out. But really want to get the heck out of Atlanta before dark.😄

I would recommend prepaying for parking at one of the lots near the Fox usually can get it cheaper than on the day when they want event parking prices.

Book your parking beforehand. The last time we went to the fox, our parking deck was literally beside the fox. We purchased when we got the tickets.

My son used to live right by the fox. Lots of good restaurants right there. We ate at the hotel across the street from the fox last time. But lots of great dining spots on Peachtree - towards midtown, not towards downtown.

Midtown seems to still be ok - not too dangerous. And lots of people out on Peachtree - normal people.

- Prepay for parking (we go next door then lower level so we are close to that exit)
- Get there early and eat down there
- Recently saw Beetlejuice and ate at TASTE OF GREECE just north on Peachtree. Excellent.
- Sometimes when we arrive early the organ and organist are playing, so cool.
- Inside look around, beautiful place. The bathrooms are very nice!!

I have seen Lion King, many years ago. Those puppets are incredible.

BE EARLY to your seats, at beginning and after intermission. The performers use the aisles and you will not be allowed to take your seat for several minutes if you’re late. And you’ll miss something amazing.

The show is fantastic, we saw it years ago, and again on 10/05.

Sorry, no recommendations for dinner. We’ve been splurging on the marquee club so that we can eat before the show and not have to worry about waiting for a bill and being late. (We see the evening shows). We drive in from Stone Mountain and it’s too long to go without eating.

The bathrooms are downstairs from the lobby. There’s tons of them, but the theatre holds over 4,000 people so the lines quickly get very long, and back up onto the stairs (for the women’s bathroom). If you’re unsteady on stairs in crowds, please use the handrail.

The theatre itself is beautiful inside. You can’t take pictures of the show, of course, but you might want to snap a few pictures before the show starts.

The Fox Theatre is awesome, and is one of the very few things that will get me to head into town!

We went last Thursday! For your first time at the Fox, I would get there when the doors open if possible because it is so beautiful inside and you may want to take pics and get a drink and just look around. If you are not upstairs, make sure to go to the front to look at the ceiling after they allow you to go to your seats.
We ate at Taste of Greece beforehand, was pretty decent for the price, but pastitsio and moussaka were not very warm. The South American place across the street looked good, maybe next time. Have fun!
Intermission bathroom break is madness, but they are organized and keep everything moving.

Did you enjoy the show?

I can't believe how often and how many people were getting up mid performance or still being seated after the performance started.

It was a constant stream of people and very distracting.

And the ushers were slightly more annoying screaming at people to turn off their phones than the glow from the phones were a distraction.

Overall we had a good time and are planning to return for Mamma Mia in Feb/Mar.

How was the walk from Poor Calvin's to Fox? Safe and easy?
We have a Fox show in Feb and considering eating there.
Thanks!

Seemed safe enough. Never really ran into anyone other than other people out and about looking to eat or exercising.

It was only about a 10-15 minute walk between the Fox and Poor Calvin’s.

We made a full night of it and checked into the Renaissance Atlanta Midtown, walked from there to Poor Calvin’s, then back to the Fox and after the show to the hotel.

We never felt uneasy.
