Linking retail magicbands

I just figured out how to do it and I haven't gone since magic bands were introduced. In MDE, sign in, go to My Profile, select MagicBands & Cards, select Link a MagicBand or Card, enter the ID number (which is on the back of the band). Easy peasy.

if you receive MagicBands for staying onsite and then purchase character ones, do both bands now work for the same things (hotel room, meal plan, etc)? So you could switch back and forth if you wanted? Or can you only have one "active" band at a time?

A MagicBand will remain active until manually de-activated. All active MagicBands linked to an individual profile can be used interchangeably.

Great info. I had the same question as the OP because we have not been down since the introduction of MagicBands. I was searching the internet and found some really cool Bands for my 5 year old but was wondering how it would work switching between the two. Thanks for clarifying!

Yes I have had great success with multiple magic bands on my account (I am a bit crazy and have 30+ so if I don't have problems you should be good too!). This past trip I did have one issue when we changed rooms and the system deactivated my bands. Just look at your account and reactivate them. It is pretty simple but the CMs at the front desk were really struggling so I just did it myself.

yes but I think there is a limit on how many you can have active at one time ( I think it is 8)

If it's linked before you check in (they gave you a room number) it will work, as well as, your free band they sent you right away for everything.

If you purchase them AFTER you have checked in stay at a disney property resort while at disney, they will link them for you but they will only work for fastpass and park tickets. You need to have the resort also link the room key, meal plan and purchases via the magic band. It takes a minute just stopping at the front desk. Your other band will continue to also work unless you deactivate it on MDE. All bands work for everything unless deactivated by you. What I do is keep using my original band, stop at the front desk and then switch bands after I checked it can open the resort door.

I'm staying at the Dolphin, so technically it's a non-disney resort.

I linked my magic band (purchased through the Disney store) to my account and it's coming up under my name and all.

Will it automatically notice that I have park tickets (I bought them through Disney online on my account) even though Disney sent me a plastic card with my tickets on it?

Also will my fast passes automatically be on the magic band or will I need to stop by guest services with my plastic card "ticket" and my magic band and say "please put these together"

Switch your thinking, and it might be clearer: NOTHING is "on" a magic band. All it is is a link to the information in your MDE account (tickets, fast passes, plus room reservation and access to your resort account if you are in a Disney resort).

So as long as you see the magic band in your account, and see the ticket in your account, you are all set. Have fun!

Have 12+, at one of each color and the rest are designed ones. No problems with them all activated. I can switch them out with my outfit, to match the park or mood.

Nothing is ON your MagicBand. Your MB is only a gateway to your MDE where everything is located. Using your MB only transmits the information on your MDE to whatever you are doing.

I have one additional question regarding linking purchased magic bands. After following the above steps, how do I assign the magic band to a specific person in my party?

It's part of the process when linking them to select the person if you control their account. If they control their own account they'll have to link their own bands.
