LINK TO MY TR POSTED 10/30 - I'm Ali & I'm Addicted to Disney Planning - Oct '10 PTR

OK, so at the suggestion of some other DISers (you know who you are ;) ) I am posting some flashback pics.

The first time I ever went to WDW was in 2002 and I was 20 years old. Of course, at the time, I knew NOTHING about Disney except that I was really excited to FINALLY get to go. It was just me, my mom, my sister, and my brother. This was right after my mom and dad got divorced.

I have only a few pics because they are already (horribly) scrapbooked and it was too much of a pain to scan them. (Then, they somehow got moved to my Recycling Bin and I spent the next 30 minutes trying to figure out where they were on my computer!)

Our trip was from 9/14 - 9/20 2002. We stayed off-site at the Club Hotel by DoubleTree. My mom got the hotel for free if we agreed to go on a time share thingy. It was supposed to be an hour and we got stuck there for 3. They would NOT let us leave...and no, it was not for the DVC!

This hotel was actually really nice. It was right down the street from DTD, and we actually walked there almost every night. The hotel offered a shuttle to the parks, but if had known at the time, we could have just walked to DTD, caught a resort bus, and used Disney Transport whenever we wanted. The problem with off-site hotel shuttles is that they schedule pick-up and drop-off only once or twice a day so if you miss it, you end up taking a cab. NOT cheap. At one point, we got a cab driver who made me sit in the front with him. Keep in mind this was a year after 9/11...the country was still terrified of anyone Middle Eastern. Our cab driver's name was Hash. And he kept talking about Jesus and God and all kinds of stuff on the ride to where ever we were going. And I was totally freaked out.

I have no idea what order we did the parks in.

This is my first ever picture of the Tree of Life:

I remember the ONLY thing I wanted to accomplish on this trip was meeting Tigger and I got to do it!

scan0002.jpg

Funnily enough, I take more pics of Cinderella Castle NOW, than I did on our first trip:

scan0001.jpg

Me and Mike, hanging out by the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway. We did not go on it....I remember we were all just sitting there...taking a break, I guess!

scan0005.jpg

This will show you exactly how UN-Disneyfied I was at the time. This is one of only a few pics I have from MGM and it got stuck into the Magic Kingdom pages in the scrapbook. Look at what I have it labeled as!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

So all I really remember about that trip is that it was HOT. EXTREMELY HOT. I remember we were in AK, walking through Dinoland, and we could see the humidity rising off of everything around us. I know we did the Safari, Pangani, and Maharajah because I have 8000 pictures of animals, but I remember specifically that by the time we got to Dinoland, we were like "OK, that's enough!" and we left and headed back to the hotel to go swimming.

I remember being too afraid to go on ToT, and my sister getting yelled at for using flash photography on PoTC (they actually CARED back then!). And of course, EE didn't even exist. Oh, and the HM was closed for refurb.

We had no ADRs, so we ate Continental breakfast in the hotel every morning. We ate QS at the parks for lunch, and most nights we walked across the street from the hotel to Uno's or whatever else was there. I think there was a McDonald's there but I might be making that up.

So that, in a nutshell, was my first ever trip to WDW. The following year, 2003, is when Lumar and I met. And then we went to WDW again in July 2004 with my step-dad, my mom, my sister, and my brother...but I have absolutely NO pics of that trip. I'll describe it a bit in the next flashback!

:rotfl2: I love what you have that labeled as! I can't remember what it's called at the moment, but that's too funny! :teeth:

Love seeing the old pics :) The one of you and Tigger is so cute!

That would be Hollywood Blvd! :rotfl2: I cracked up when I went back and saw that!

Main Street USA??? You lose DISer status for that. :rotfl2:

I love the big pineapple on the side of the hotel.

Thankfully, this was back in 2002 and WAAAAYYYY before I was a DISer! If I made that mistake now, I would cancel my DIS account and start over as "Earning my Ears!" :rotfl2::rotfl2:

The good thing about staying at that hotel, was when we had to take cabs (which was often), all the drivers knew what we meant when we said "The hotel with the pineapple!" :lmao: If we said "The Club Hotel" they were like :confused3 and then we would say "The one with the pineapple!" and they were like "OOOHHHH!!! OK!!" It was a nice place! I actually liked it better than CBR....

Does it still have the giant pineapple on it? It serves its purpose if that's how all the cabbies knew it!

FYI!!!

I know there were some other people talking about getting new Crocs before their trip...Ebay has them for less than $20!

Yay loved your flashback pics! :cool1: That is so funny how you labeled MGM as MK! :rotfl:

Looking at that picture, labeled "Main Street, USA" cracks me up. I was such a newbie then! LOL

I was excited to see them on ebay! I'm going to order a pair next paycheck!

I've seen you on several other PTR's and TR's and hope you don't mind me joining in on yours. :)

Welcome aboard, Kathy! I'm obsessed with your CSR thread! :worship: I steal pictures from it from time to time and post them on my FB, indicating how many days I have left til we go back "home!"

Thanks for joining me!

Okay, Ali, I have most of your PTR read.

First off, your dog is adorable -- love those ears.

I think, if I'm reading this right, that you cancelled Hollywood & Vine. I was going to suggest you cancel it -- it's not good at all. We've done a lot of your ADR's -- Rose & Crown, Yak & Yeti, Sci Fi, Plaza, and 50's Prime (although we've not done that 50's in years). We LOVED Yak & Yeti, loved the onion rings at Sci Fi last year and the Plaza is always our final meal of our trip.

Sounds like a great trip and I can't wait to read more.

***And thank you...I'm glad that the CSR thread is helpful to you. I'll be updating it when we return from our trip at the beginning of October (I'm hoping it doesn't reach it's page limit while I'm gone...but I'm afraid it will).

Sorry it took me so long, but I finally made it over. I think I am pretty much caught up too. Looks like the only time we may cross paths is on the 19th, but we have 'ohana at 6:30 and we are planning on headed over early to see the torch lighting ceremony at 6. Maybe that evening we will sit on the beach of the Poly and look in your direction:lmao:.

I love rabbits. We had many when I was younger. I had a lop-earred one that would follow me around, he liked attention. Everytime my kids see rabbits they ask for one and I would really like to get them a couple, but we have a dog and a cat already. Too much to look after already!

Your adr's are making me hungry. You are doing a bunch of places I have never been, will be looking forward to your reviews.

Are you an overthinker too?:rotfl2: Everytime I look at our plans I want to change them. I have to see all the other things we could do. Chris tells me to just stop thinking, yeah right he might as well tell me to stop breathing. I try to tell myself there will be other trips and to just leave this one alone.

Cute mousekeeping envelopes. I have some saved from the disign thread, but I could just hand make them, or let Chloe.

Cirque du Soliel:lovestruc. We have been to O, Mystique, and Love (the Beatles one) all in Vegas. I really would love to see La Nouba, so great that you got a deal on the tickets.

Thank you! I love them too! She just can not seem to "grow into them!" The bigger she gets, the bigger the ears get! It's the cutest thing!

Yeah, we canceled H & V. I was just way too nervous about it! I just have not heard enough good things about it. We've never been to Rose & Crown or 50's so I'm really looking forward to trying those, Y & Y is one of my favorites, I LOVE The Plaza (I literally daydream about The Plaza Club!) but Lumar told me a couple weeks ago that he doesn't really like it! :scared1: So we swapped it out for this year and since we're going to DTD that night to see La Nouba, we'll eat dinner at Planet Hollywood instead. We've been to Sci-Fi in the past and had both a good and an "off" experience. It wasn't HORRIBLE...but a couple of us didn't feel well after eating there. It's accidental that we're eating here this time around...I couldn't get an ADR at Mama Melrose's...but it's good to switch things up, I think!

Sounds like a great trip and I can't wait to read more.

Well, I'll be sure to subscribe to the new one! I can't wait to get there! 39 more days!!! :woohoo:

Have fun at the Poly Beach! And at Ohana! This will be our first time eating dinner there and I'm SOOO looking forward to it!

I hear ya! We have 8 (broken up into 4 pairs) and it's a lot. Plus the dog and 3 finches. But I love them all and they all add something to the family!

Your adr's are making me hungry. You are doing a bunch of places I have never been, will be looking forward to your reviews.

They make ME hungry too! Looking at the menus makes me ravenous! :rotfl2:

I'm totally an overthinker! People tell me all the time that I need to stop thinking about it and just let sleeping dogs lie, but in that gap between "done planning" and "actually leaving" there is just nothing to do except review your plans and make changes!

Cute mousekeeping envelopes. I have some saved from the disign thread, but I could just hand make them, or let Chloe.

Thanks! I never made them before and I know I could do better, but they aren't bad under the circumstances! Now, let's see if we actually remember to leave tips this year...we always forget!
:headache:

I love Cirque! I want to go see Ovo here in CT but we already have tickets to see La Nouba again and Dralion in Mass. in December. So hopefully we'll have a chance to see it before it leaves but it won't be anytime soon!

I'm super-late to your PTR here, but I figured I might as well say hi! I'll be at WDW the same time as you, and will be at CSR for one night (the 20th), so maybe I'll run into you!

I totally relate to your issues changing your info with Disney...I've been trying to get them to change my phone number for over five years! Every time I talk to them, I give them my new number, and they say they already have it. And every time I make an ADR, I use my new number. But if I ever need to call about my resort reservation, or pull it up online, it's still listed under my old phone number. So frustrating! One of these days I'm not going to remember that old number anymore, and then I'll be in trouble! :rotfl:

Hi Norybell! Thanks for joining!

I'm not sure what dept I actually spoke to this last time. I called Dining and the CM there transferred me to someone supposedly in Resort Reservations but who knows!

Hey everyone,

Sorry it has been a few days since my first Flashback post! Things have been crazy around here and I haven't had time to scan the next set of pictures.

After working all week, I had to run a tag sale yesterday that was for the rabbit shelter we volunteer for. I got up at 6am, the sale went from 8-1pm...it took an hour to clean up and another hour to bring the leftovers back to our VP's house for storage until the next sale. By the time we got home it was after 4pm and I was exhausted! We made $369 though so we're happy! It's double what we were expecting so it was worth it!

Unfortunately, the weekend is almost over already and I have to go grocery shopping and to Walmart, then I have to come home and do laundry and try and clean the house a little bit. Then it's back to the grind tomorrow. This felt like the shortest weekend ever!

Oh, and the new bathing suit that I ordered to bring with me to WDW came on Friday. Unfortunately, the Post Man left us a little note saying "sorry we missed you" instead of just leaving the box.... And of course, Parsley somehow got hold of that little card and shredded it. So now I have to hope that a handwritten note for the Post Man will suffice!

You've been a busy beaver. Oh no...Parsley...bad dog. :rotfl: I hope you get your bathing suit fro the PO.
