Last week we waited in line, in bright sunlight, to see Merida. There was really no other time of day when we could come back, as I knew DD would be too tired later in the day or at night. I know the GAC can't be used for characters. Has anyone ever waited in a line while a disabled child waited off to the side (with another family member) in the shade? Is this ever allowed? I would like to know for future reference. DD was able to wait and see Merida, but I'm sure the long exposure to sunlight contributed to her need to leave the park soon afterward, even sooner than we had anticipated.

When I was waiting in line to see Pocahontas last time, a parent was behind me in line while his children played off to the side. A CM politely informed him that his entire party needed to be in the line with him, so I'm assuming that is the official rule. I'm sure, however, that if that parent's children had been disabled and he had explained his situation to the CM, it would have been fine. I don't have an official word on this of course but I've seen CMs be very accommodating in the past, so I really don't see why it would be an issue.

Personally, I'm a firm believer in keeping control yourself over taking care of needs whenever and where ever possible instead of relying on outside sources. You can control yourself, but never others.

In these types of situations that would consist of tackling the sun problem, which has many options. Using an umbrella for instance to keep sun out. Cooling clothes if heat is also or more of an issue. Having options at hand to cool down easily like cooling packs, misting fan etc. Making sure hydration is upkept since this is an issue for a very high amount of people that yet have no clue that it is an issue and underestimate how much fluids a human body needs to stay hydrated in Florida weather.

Where ever possible controling your own life always makes for a better result because of being able to keep control yourself and thus being able to make decisions on the spot instead of being limited by dependance. Sun issues at WDW are a classical example of that.

I don't know if it's officially allowed or not, but I've seen many, many people do it.
