Lines to get into Downtown Disney???

I’ve seen a couple of reviews from TOD that talk about waiting in line to enter Dtd after leaving the parks. Is this a thing? I’m planning on going the 2nd week of May and I’m trying to wrap my head around the new changes. The week I’m looking at, the parks will close at 7pm and I’m planning on staying at The Grand. I assume at park closing a huge mass of people will exit the parks at 7pm and head towards downtown Disney. I just want to know what to expect, I don’t think I’m interested in waiting in a long line to get back to an expensive hotel that I’m paying for. I’d consider booking a hotel on Harbor or cancelling my trip if it’s gonna be long waits to move around. Thank you for any insight anyone may have. I really want to go but I want to be a realist too about what the experience is going to be!

This is hard to answer since during ToD, DTD still had a $10/all day parking fee. There are capacity limits for DTD and Disney will hold the lines until enough people leave. Well before ToD, I had a friend who waited a few hours in the morning to enter DTD.

With the parks reopening, DTD parking is supposed to return to normal (high max daily fee; pay by the hour) so this might reduce some of the people coming in just to shop. But I wouldn't even guess at this point.

The other factor is GCH has not been open during this whole thing. Maybe Disney might have a special line just for hotel guests. Maybe they won't.

Only suggestion I would have is to call Disney and ask if any accommodations might be made for hotel guests.

Thanks for the idea about calling the hotel, I hadn’t even thought of that.

If you are DVC Resort Guest w/ reservation at GCH , you will enter theme parks in Central Courtyard w/ choice to go to DL or DCA. So you will go thru security and temp check . . Resort guests only will be allowed to exit at the location close to StoryTellers, according to Disney Need to know Online.

To be honest it's not always my first thought either because I hate talking to people on the phone, lol! Hopefully there's something in place that's satisfactory for you! At those prices there should be 😬
