Lines for the newer stuff

Okay, apparently I'm way overdoing the concern about WOC fastpasses. Can someone tell me what the current situation is with lines and FPs for TSM and the Nemo subs? (Yes, it's been so long since we went that Nemo is "new" for us. Sad, isn't it? :rotfl:)

Do we need to rush to get FPs for TSM? Do they run out early? And are the Nemo lines still heinous? Does that need to be a first thing in the morning ride or has it died down by now?

We're going mid-May and have five days in Disney, if that helps.

Well, there are no FPs for TSMM or for Nemo.

Some people like to go to TSMM first thing at rope drop. If you are among the very first you will likely have a short wait. But the thing about the TSMM line is that it is very consistent. After the first people of the day cycle through, it will remain steady. Since you will be there in mid-May (which isn't that busy), I would say the line is going to be around 30 minutes long pretty much all day. For me personally, I don't see the need to line up super early and try and be the first person on. I would rather be in Disneyland at that time enjoying the shorter lines in Fantasyland and collecting Fastpasses. But everyone has their own priorities, so it depends on what you want to do. :)

As for Nemo, if you ride during a parade or other shows, it is a pretty short line. We waited 15 minutes for it last time during Fantasmic one night. So it isn't that bad at all. I wouldn't waste precious morning time on it because it is a long ride and takes awhile. :thumbsup2

Ditto. :)

Both trips I've taken I've found Nemo's line to be the shortest the last couple of hours the park is open (on those night it is open until 11 or midnight). We waited maybe 5 minutes last time.

Waiting in line for Nemo is like giving up some of your life that you will never get back...I would completely skip Nemo.

Seriously? I haven't been to DL since '05 and the kids and I are pretty excited for Nemo... are you really advising that someone who has never been on it skip it completely?

My 3 year old still talks about the Nemo ride and we went in February. Since you will be there for 5 days choose one morning to go to Nemo first. I don't think that it's a waste if that's something you want to see.

I agree, my DS has been on Nemo once and mentions the great time he had every couple weeks. I'll be doing it again, and then again and then again........

I find it very cute and very well done. The kids loved and adults really enjoyed it too.

I just got back from DLR a couple of weeks ago. If you've never done it and aren't sure when you'll beback (like me), I would make a point of doing it. If for nothingelse than you get to ride the sub from 20,000 leagues and revisit the deep ocean were itused to prowl.

As with everything, different people will have different perceptions and opinions. Personally, I think every ride is worth doing once to make your own judgement (although I admit I have some motion sickness issues that have deterred me from being willing to try a couple rides). My family has done Nemo a few times. DH is the one who likes it best. My kids weren't all that excited by it but have done it a couple times since the first to humor DH. I thought it was just ok. Still, none of us were sorry to have tried it. If you're going to be there multiple days and want to do something you haven't done before, I say go for it. If you were only going to be there one day and have a really packed itinerary with lots of must-sees and must-dos, especially of things never before experienced, then I might suggest only bothering if you get lucky with the line.

If you haven't done Nemo yet I would definitely do it. The kids will love it. How many times do they get to ride in a sub? I still remember the original ride (I was born the same year as Matterhorn opened) so it has a long memory effect.

BTW, being APH to DLR I didn't ride Nemo for quite awhile when it first opened. I wasn't going to wait that long. We did experience most of the ride by riding in the Observation Room though. It's for anyone who doesn't want to ride in the subs and one really cool thing, literally, is that while the subs themselves are not air conditioned :scared1: The Observation Lab is and it's deliciously cool on a hot summer day. The have space for wheelchairs and/or strollers as well as 2 benches.

I've ridden it once, and I found that will be enough. It's a really cool ride, and it was pleasant to go on, but for a couple of young adults, we don't need to do it over and over again. But I still find it fun :thumbsup2 A ride is always worth at least one or two tries before standing through final judgments.

On another thread, I read that they let you ride as long as you are in line by closing. When we're there, closing will be a 8 pm on 3 of the 4 nights. So, I was thinking about maybe doing Nemo then. However, I'm torn since 2 in our group are disabled and won't be able to actually ride in the subs, but I'm guessing my girls would really like the subs...I'm still not sure which experience we'll opt for.

You need to understand some of the history to put this in context. The original sub voyage at DL was beloved by many. I rode it as a kid and remember it very, very well. But it was never a favorite of mine.

Disney closed the ride in 1998 (I believe) and the lagoon sat there for 9 years. Then DL re-opened the ride themed to Nemo. Anticipation was HUGE. Since the ride has such low capacity the lines were also HUGE as in four hours long.

The response was muted. Is Nemo worth a four hour wait? No way. Few rdes are. It is worth maybe 30 minutes. The too long of a wait compared to the modest payoff disappointed many people.

I rode Nemo several times last year after riding it only once in 2007. I think Nemo has gotten an overly bad rap. IMO it is much better than the sub ride when I was a kid. It is a cool ride. It is claustrophobic for many people.

We have waited for Nemo up to 15 minutes and it was worth it. Nemo is not the best ride at DL - but it is a solid ride at DL and I have gained a new appreciation for it. It is not a must do for us every trip, and for those on a day trip it is not at the top of the list. But if you have a few days you should ride it for sure.

Can't speak for Dobie, obviously....but since I gave Dobie's comment a thumbs up, I thought I'd give you my thoughts on your question, lol.

No, I wouldn't advise you to skip it....everyone's opinion of rides are going to be different and though the vast majority of comments about Nemo seem to be on the negative side...I'd never say SKIP a ride.

My recommendation would be to check on the line length for this ride often during the day.....and when it's very short, I'd jump on. Not sure what the lines look like in the busy season, as we tend to aim for lower crowd times.....and frankly I've never seen the line long than 20-30 minutes. Luckily, my family was able to practically walk on our first time....we were walking past and there was absolutely NO ONE in line....we decided to go for it and learned that there was no one in line because the sub had just launched....we had to wait for the next sub to return and be unloaded and then we got on.

My disappointment was rather complete....it was rather awkward and difficult to board.....the seats were hard, the windows were so low that even I who is only 5'7 had to stoop over to look through the porthole (thank heavens my 6'4" husband wasn't along!). And then the dioramas were....well, like junior high dioramas. Boring, poorly executed and there were long long pauses of nothing between scenes. It was VERY difficult to believe that this was a Disney ride!

Our family has no plans to ride this one again....just not even worth it without having to wait in line. I've often commented how grateful I am that we were doing Disney World the year the ride first came to Disneyland.....because I would NOT have been happy to have stood in line for HOURS for this ride. And I would have, lol.....because I'm one of those that wants to try it all. We'll miss Little Mermaid and Star Tours this June and won't make it there until September, but I anticipate the lines will still be huge for these....and yet we'll wait. But if I ride either and feel as I do about Nemo.....I'll feel gyped out of that time in line, lol.

So....my suggestion is to go only when there is a short enough line that you won't feel like you wasted time if you too don't enjoy the ride. But do at least give it a try!

Oh...and then report back how you felt about it!
