Line/wait difference for DAS vs Genie+?

Hi! We are planning to get Genie+ for our family anyway so I don’t know that we need to go through the whole deal to get DAS. But waiting in line will be truly difficult and possibly dangerous for one of our family members. Is it the same line and wait time whether you get DAS or use Genie+? You use the lightening lane or whatever it’s called?

Thanks!

I believe it is the same lane for the most part. If there's a mobility device in your party you may get sent a different way. From what I can tell, the LL lines are the same as the old Fast Pass lines if you ever used those - and the DAS party is would generally go through those when entering with a return time.

Not sure what the danger is for one of your family members, but for example if someone has diabetes and has a low blood sugar while in line and doesn't have treatment options - that's a problem. If there's any way to mitigate the danger (make sure to have glucose treatment for example) that is a very good idea and also be aware of exits, chicken exits, and cast members that could help assist with moving the person out of the line if it stops for some reason - like the ride goes down - and your family member experiences a problem. You may consider posting what type of dangerous emergency the person could have if you want suggestions on the best way to handle it. One of my kids has type 1 diabetes and experienced severe lows in a line and we had to stop right there and deal with it so he wouldn't pass out or have a seizure, etc.

Genie+ times a DAS Return Times are based on different things.
DAS Return Times are based on the current posted wait time in the Standby line at the time you request the Return Time. You will be able to see what the wait is before choosing to book the Return Time. There is a beginning time, but guests using DAS can enter any time after that. The DAS Return Time remains active until it is used, cancelled/modified by the user or until the attraction/park closes for the day.
If the current posted wait time is 15 minutes or less, guests using DAS will be able to enter the attraction right away without getting a DAS Return Time

Genie+ attractions have a time listed in the My Disney Experience app that indicates the time period you are signing up for. Genie+ attractions generally have a 1 hour window to use

The previous Fastpass entrances were just renamed and got new signs for Lightning Lane.
Genie+ and DAS Return both use that entrance, along with things like Rider Swap and Guest Recovery (ride breakdown return, etc)

If you request DAS, you need to be ready to explain what dangers prevent you from waiting in the regular line to the CM registering DAS.
We do ask people NOT to post specific information here - in the past, people who DON’T need DAS have used info they got from the internet to request it.

With the DAS you use the LL when you return to the attraction. But the difference is that with the Genie+ you will probably get times later in the day as so many are using it. We found with the DAS we received earlier times, much more in line with the time for the stand by line time and often shorter waits. With the DAS you can go up to a CM at the entrance to the attraction or you can also get a return time via the free genie app. Both the Genie & the DAS only allow one attraction at a time, unless your wait is longer than two hours. I would still suggest the DAS.

How does this work? Do you still request a DAS time in the app, but it activates immediately (vs. giving you a time in the future)?

No. For those with 15 minute or less posted wait time, you just go to the attraction and inform the CM that you have DAS. The CM will usually give access right away.
In the past, the only situation where we did not get immediate access were because DD uses a wheelchair and that attraction did not have space at the time for more wheelchairs.

Sounds like a lot of confusion. DAS has not changed how it works. The differences are that you can now set up your return time through the app. The other change is that, if you do the video call to set it up, they will give you "bonus" 2 return times per day and these do not affect or interact with any other return times you get at the park. Think of them as a thank you for doing the video call. They do have a list of rides that you will be able to get with these 2 bonus ones and they seem to be the same rides that they give you if you ever had an issue and they give you a free fast pass. So the most popular rides are not included. But other then that, DAS is exactly the same as it was.
As far as LL, it works similar the old paper FPs did. The difference is that you can only get 1 per attraction per day and the popular rides are not included. The LL(old FP) line is exactly the same, they just renamed it. All of this new stuff is almost exactly the same as it used to be, only with a few new restrictions and at a cost. But DAS and LL still work in tandem, just like it used to.

Fwiw G+ does not allow repeats, if this person qualifies for a DAS and repeating rides is important to them apply for a DAS.
Yes, but if say they like to do certain rides twice in a row, get Genie+ and the DAS, then get a DAS Return time and a Genie+ return time for around the same time, then you can use one then get off and use the other.

We are going in April and have DAS and Genie+. For now. One curiosity I have is allowed overlaps? With the DAS pre selections, a DAS day of (one at a time) and ILL; I can easily see overlaps. Do the programs lock you out of conflicting? So if I have a DAS pre for 1-2PM and at 12:30 the wait time for another attraction is 45min, can I get a DAS for 1:15+? Similarly for ILL and their chance to overlap with DAS or DAS pre.

The three things (DAS pre-selection, day-of DAS, and ILL) are totally separate from each other. Having them overlap is not a problem.

DAS Advance Selections are totally separate from DAS Return Times you get on the day of your visit. Both of them are separate from Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane.
DAS Advance Selections, Genie+ and ILL all have 1 hour windows, so if your times overlap, you may not have time to do both of the overlapped attractions.
DAS Return Times have a beginning time, but remain active until you use them or the park/attraction closes for the day. So, if a DAS Return Time overlaps with one of the other times, you will want to wait to use the DAS Return Time until after using the overlapped attractio.

I have noticed a 1 hour timeframe for pre booked DAS picks do you have all day after the start time or for those you have to be there in that hour? Thanks.

The 2 Advanced Selections that you pre-book have a set 1-hour window. Use it or lose it. The regular DAS Return Times that you make while in the park are "anytime after..." good until park close, but you may only have 1 of these at a time.

Unfortunately, while this is the policy posted online, in practice we've often found that CMs at the attraction entrance will still issue a return time as opposed to allowing DAS to enter (unless the wait is five minutes or less). We've had this experience at TTA, and once at the Haunted Mansion. There are also frequently times where confused guests result in a line backed up outside of the LL entrance, creating an additional wait even before you reach the tap point. As a result, we've had the posted wait time change while waiting in a line to reach the actual tap point, resulting in the need to obtain a return time.

I am not sure if new CMs and/or college program are not being trained regarding this policy or if they sometimes forget the details regarding DAS. Not that it has impacted our visits very often... but I wanted to let people know that your experience may vary. We typically grab a DAS via the MDE ap on our way to an attraction now, even if the wait time is showing as 15 minutes or less -- this approach usually gets us right into the LL, even if the posted wait time changes while we are lined up prior to the tap point.
