Hello fellow CDN diser's :goodvibes. I am trying to revamp my fastpass strategy - I am a reformed fastpass hoarder :lmao: I plan to add the unlimited U.S text plan before we leave for our trip. Has anyone done this? We have a blackberry, and I am wondering, if we will be able to use a line app without being charged for U.S roaming :confused3? These line apps may make or break my "new" fastpass strategy! ;)

You will be charged roaming in the US for internet. If you get the unlimited text plan (20$/month) you're good for text messages, but this plan does not include internet. Only the Roaming Combo (40$/month) does, and it's simply a reduced roaming charge of 1$/MB (as opposed to the normal 3$/MB).

I had the same question really. I have an iPhone 4s with a call/text/data plan with Virgin. I am pretty sure I have unlimited international texting - which is a good thing as my family are also going to be with us and they are from the UK so we need to be able to text them if we get lost in the parks.

I have a couple of wait time apps for US and WDW but wondered about the data costs. We have wifi at the villa we are staying at so can update before we leave but wondered if I just switch the data on and off as I want to check the wait times - how much data could it possibly use?

On my recent trip (October 2011), I paid $10 for a data roaming package ($1 per MB rather than $4+). I still paid another $20-30 for data for the week. All I did was use the Lines app (from TouringPlans.com) in the parks, Facebook, and Gmail apps on my droid. I didn't download or upload any photos or videos unless I was connected to wifi.

FYI, you need a good data connection for any of the lines apps to be at all useful in the parks. I found my AT&T connection rather flaky -- it just didn't like my Telus Droid.

So as an update. Just been to speak to the Virgin people who said it will cost me $o.65 per text :scared1: and if I go without a plan it will cost me $6 per mb for data roaming :scared1::scared1:

I can pay $10 for the month and then get my data at $1 per mb so think that I will use that as it seems a shame to have the apps but not use them.

We have wifi at the villa we are staying at so will make sure to do any websurfing there and will switch the data on and off as I need it. Does that sound like a plan to anyone else? :confused3

We were down in March and stuck to using wifi with our Iphones, turning off data roaming. While not convenient for the parks, there was lots of wifi available (at our resort and also at Typhoon Lagoon - go figure!).

The problem with data roaming is that besides the app you want to use, other apps may be accessing the internet connection in the background. I know that when my cell data is turned off, as soon as the phone can connect to wifi, notifcations will start showing up on the phone for other apps I was not using. I am guessing that the same would happen if you were in the parks and decide to turn on the data temporarily.

If you decide to experiment, please post back on yout experience - inquiring minds want to know!
