Linda Rondstadt!

Is there anyone else who doesnt understand why what she said is a big deal?

So what if an entertainer spouts polictal stuff at their shows... just like comercial, it doesnt make me go out and buy it.

Such topics dont bother me, but I do find it interesting that so many have such strong thoughts about it.....

ANyone remeber the BUY BONDS campaign all the old hollywood actors did.......

Because when I pay for a concert, I expect to be entertained. Thats why I PAY for a ticket. If I want to see commercials I will stay home and watch tv, where I expect commercials as the price I pay to watch the show. If I go to a buy bonds campaign, you know going in you will be asked to donate and thats your price of admission. I am glad that such topics don't bother you, but many of us have family members in Iraq, so we NEED a few hours away. When I have paid to get away for a few hours, the last thing I want to hear is what the entertainers feelings about the war are.

funy how it so often turns out there is another side to the story

Some concertgoers took issue with the Aladdin's accounts of angry patrons tearing down posters and throwing drink cups.

"I was so stunned to read in the newspaper that anyone had a negative reaction," said KLAS-TV, Channel 8, news anchor Paula Francis. "Everyone who was leaving when I was leaving was just thrilled. They thought it was a good concert."

At the end of an hour's worth of singing, "she got a standing ovation, then she came out and did the (`Desperado') encore," Francis said. "There were loud boos and there was quite a bit of applause. But everyone calmed down right away and seemed to enjoy the rest of the encore."

Other concertgoers said the audience was unruly and hard-drinking from the beginning. Some expected a classic rock hits revue and were confused by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra performance of George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" that opened the show.

Why George Clooney?

It was his comment about Charlton Heston. He was accepting some kind of award and made a joke about Heston announcing again that he had alzheimers. You know, like he had forgotten he had already announced it. Not that big of a deal. I think sometimes it's better to leave those kind of jokes to the professionals but hey, that's life. Anyway he was interviewed later and asked about that comment and he basically said hey, since Heston is the head of the NRA he deserves anything that is said about him.
Personally I think that's a rather low blow just because you disagree with someone's politics. I also wonder if opinion would have been different if it had been said about, say, Muhammad Ali or Christopher Reeve.
Anyway, that put him on my list. I get phone calls once in a while and the caller just hangs up without saying anything. I just know it's Clooney trying to get up the nerve to ask for my forgiveness. ;)

Just one man's opinion.

actually what Moore said was more along the lines of "that Heston, as head of the NRA for years, was a man powerful enough to take the heat". I am paraphrasing of course, but you can see how that is different from as head of the NRA he deserves what he gets.

I would have Boo'd her. If I went to the show it would be to see her perform, not to hear anything political.

Moore? I'm talking about George Clooney. If you're gettin' Michael Moore and George Clooney mixed up no wonder your political ideas are a little, eh, skewed.

Richard

These public performers have every right to their opinion and can espouse it anywhere they want.

And then the public audience has the right to react to it, and that is what they forget. As I have taught my children, there are consequences to your actions.

Exactly Tori!

For the record, she is one of my all time favorite female singers. She has a very powerful voice.
BUT

It wouldn't matter if she is a republican, democrat or martian. She was paid to entertain not give a political endorsement. She was using her employers dime to promote a movie that is very polarizing.

From the article I read the concert goers were also expecting a greatest hits performance. I guess it was promoted that way but Linda Ronstadt informed them it was not a greatest hits tour and began singing remakes of older songs (30's, 40's and 50's). I'd be upset if I paid for one thing and got another. I have no idea whether that was her fault or the promoters. Point is the audience was probably a little ticked to begin with.

If Linda Ronstadt were REALLY one of your all time favorite singers, you'd realize that she left her "greatest hits" behind
a long time ago. She's been singing classical, "The Pirates of Penzance" and cultural Mexican(in Spanish) as well as having recorded three albums with Nelson Riddle and several combos with Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton. A true fan would have gone
to her concert expecting to hear the rare 70's song and more
from her recordings in the last 20 years-not something from Stone Pony! BTW, I go to an occassional concert. The groups
and performers all have something they are touting politically.
James Taylor always makes a comment, U2, Sting,Lyle Lovett,
Eric Clapton to name a few have causes. Sometimes the video
they play in the background is political. Ronstadt's audience must
have been inexperienced and old(I'm 50) to not expect a political
commentary from her. I've already slammed Vegas in this post
but I will say that perhaps these people were just buying concert tickets because that's what tourists do in Vegas-indiscriminately spend money. Hey Linda..."What's New?"

That is silliness! "A true fan" ? Just because you don't keep up with the day to day activities of some musician does not mean you are not a fan! We see James Taylor when we can, so I do have an idea of his politics, or someone like Todd Rundren, who we used ot see a lot, but for the most part, I don't know or care about the entertainers politics. I wouldn't have walked out over them, but they appear to have been grumpy already due to false advertising.

Who said anything about "day to day" activities? I was talking
about her choice of music genre in performance and that's all.
How the Allladin chose to advertise Ronstadt's performance
was likely not her doing and it sounds like they didn't have
her respect anyway. One does have to ask, why did she accept
the gig. I know nothing about how musicians are booked or
if they make the choices regarding venue or their management
does. Seems like she was trying to make sure the Alladin people
didn't hire her again for some reason. Anyway, Ronstadt's singing
abilities are much deeper that "Blue Bayou" and "Desperado."
I guess it depends on the definition of "true fan." To me, that
would be someone who at least knows about the musicians
recent (last 20 years) genre.

Fair enough! It just tickled me this morning! sorry to offend! I guess that I am just totally out of it! I have absolutely no idea of the politics of the people whose music I enjoy! And all the years run together for me.

I would have bought a ticket because she has an awesome voice, pure and simple, and if the ad said it was going to oldies, that is what I would have expected.

Pretty uniformed, I know!

But see, James Taylor, one of our favorites, "makes a comment", as said above, but then moves on. Many are much more in your face about it. And he's not on record as being uncomfortable if I am in his audience. God forbid "one of them" actually likes your music.

If you ACTUALLY read my post I said it was promoted as a greatest hits tour according to the article I read.

If promoted as Greatest Hits then it doesn't matter if you're a fan or not, it would be reasonable to expect her Greatest Hits.

Linda Ronstadt actually had some "hits?"
