Limo driver asked for more than we were quoted

I'm a little ticked. The limo we reserved for our one-way trip from the airport to the Dolphin was quoted at $100. Of course, I had a tip of $15 ready, & gave it to DH. When we arrived at the Dolphin, the driver told DH, "$120". I don't know if it's because our flight was a little late getting in or what. Anyone else have this happen with any of the Limo services?

Did you question the driver about the descripency??? I think talking to the Limo service would be a good place to start....

Maybe they automatically added a 20% tip? My local airport limo service does that.

I am looking into towncar service for my upcoming tirp in November. Happy Limo told me there would be an additional $10 fee if the plane was delayed past 11 pm and they also included the gratuity in their quote. Don't know if that helps explain your extra fees or not.

Sters - what time is your flight scheduled to arrive? Basically I'm wondering how many hours late your flight has be to do get the $10 fee. Our TA booked us on HappyLimo for Aug but didn't mention the extra fee.

Last time we used a Towncare service I had everything in writing with me. The confirmation and amount were e-mailed to me. I would suggest to anyone that you get your quotes in writing.

It sounds to me like the driver was looking to make an extra $20.00 on the deal. I bet his employer would like to know this.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I'm paranoid about things like this, so I keep a copy of every correspondence and quote.

I'm using a Town Car service for the first time in October and since I made the reservation in May, they have raised their prices, but I am bringing a copy of the confirmation e-mail with the original quote so they won't try to charge me more.

Don't know why you're asking us instead of the company:D

Possibilities:
1) 20% gratuity (outside of Orlando that is normal practice)
2) your limo company used an outside contractor who charged his normal rate and didn't know what rate you were charged
3)extra charge for a grocery stop?
4) extra charge because you were late
5) rates went up and either you weren't protected or they made a mistake.

I would have asked the driver. You might call the company and ask them.

I started to PM you but decided to post it here....

I read what appeared to be your post on the DIS board with a great deal of interest regarding an over charge:

Being ever careful about my business affair, I went ahead and did a research and came across your name as having booked with our company on 7/12 on a one way to the Dolphin. Now, I once again tried to match your email address we’ve in reservation with other customer care and reservations sent items folder to check and see if we overlooked anything.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything. If you’ve such record please forwarded to me at andy@fltours.com. Because we do tell you about your driver's gratuity when you enquire about a limo rate.

Now, it’s true our one way limo rate is $100.00 and with a 20% driver’s gratuity will be $120.00. If your driver did not explain that and just ask for $120.00, I personally would have an issue with that. Please let me know either way.
I do care.
Sincerely,
Andy

Andy, OP didn't identify your company. I understand some companies add a 20% gratuity (not unreasonable, particularly with a "free" grocery stop) but from your website:

8) What is appropriate gratuity to the driver?
Most of our drives tell us they earn $10.00 from airport to resort transfers and $15.00 to cruise transfers

Your website should match your policy.

WOW, prices have gone up A LOT since I went last Thanksgiving. I paid $85.00 ROUND TRIP from MCO to Polynesian...and I tipped $10 each way... I tip what I want to tip, not what someone tells me to tip..

$100 round trip from the airport to the resort sounds very expensive... how many people did you have??

We still got a grocery stop and our plane was about 1.5 hours late (in the morning) due to a snowstorm. I did call the limo service to let them know our plane was delayed.... no extra charge for this, although yes, I do understand it wasn't 11:00 at night.

Jeanny - prices haven't gone up. The OP had a limo not a town car. $100 for a limo one way is pretty normal. If you paid $85 for a limo I'd love to know what company cause that sounds like a great deal. For a town car I'm paying about $85 round trip next month. I think $80-90 is still the average round trip w/out tip for a town car no matter how many people.

Which airport did the OP fly into? We flew into Sanford and the charge for 6 of us, in a van, was $190 r/t. Imagine my surprise when a stretch limo pulled up. Same price too! And our flight was 2 hrs late. So, I guess, what I'm saying is, isn't $100 one way to MCO kind of high? Also, I know that when people ask me how I'm getting to WDW I tell them by limo. I know I'll be getting a town car, but a lot of us just say limo. Just a thought or two.

honeymo... nope I had a town car... I missed the reference to the limo... I call them all limo's. Thanks,

We used Fl Tours for our Disney cruise in February 2003.

I chose them b/c they were DIS sponsors and b/c they did not automatically include a tip in their price. I agree with the above poster in that I will tip what I feel is deserved-not what the service provider demands.

We had excellent service and I tipped the driver $40 b/c I thought she deserved it.
