My 11 son has Aspergers and has limited foods that he will eat. We are staying at the beach club so we have tons of counter service options. My family wants to have a few sit down meals, my younger typical son is a foodie and eats everything.- so I'd like him to experience a special meal or two. My question is... Will a restaurant just serve my son fries, salad or fruit ? I don't want to fight with him over food on vacation...

If you're paying out of pocket you can order him whatever you want from their menu.

Follow up question... If we are on the food plan can we pay out of pocket ? ( combined three diners and one cash tab) I guess it would be like ordering appetizers! Can't wait to go! Disney is the one place my Aspie loves and looks forward to with a positive attitude ( new things freak him out)

You sure can. Just let them know you'll be paying cash for some items and who you'll be using DP credits for. Obviously buffets and AYCTE places will require full price or dining credits for everyone.

The only place I don't believe will split a tab with credits and cash is Via Napoli. They're pretty strict.

Oh my, YES. :goodvibes I think we ordered fries at every single place we had a sit down and most counter services. Our guy only ate fries and a few items we brought from home at that time. He's not expanded much since. Disney will do everything they can. We even had them bring us uncooked noodles, apple slices, and a bowl of parm. cheese too. On the DCL cruise ship, after our first meal w/ them our servers just automatically got what he needed even if it wasn't available at that particular restuarant. if itw as on the ship, they got it.:flower3:

For our son, we have had them steam a plate of broccoli to his exact requirements. When we have been to buffets, where you have to pay the full price, they will pretty much do whatever they can, bearing in mind you are paying the full amount. They have always been really understanding and totally understood how whatever it is needs to be just so! :)

as mentioned on other threads, they can not heat food brought in. just keep that in mind if you are planning on bringing food with you for your child. that is not a Disney rule but a government rule, so no use in trying to get one to break it
