Found this on allearsnet a BYBBQ review written 4/2/07...

We just got back from WDW after a 9 day stay. On our first night we did the Backyard BBQ and we really enjoyed it.


FOOD: Good and tons of it!! It is served buffet style which comes in handy with picky children. The kids especially liked the Macaroni and Cheese, which boasted big macaroni noodles and tons of cheese. My husband and I found the chicken to be our favorite. It was seasoned just right, not over or under done, and the chicken was juicy and hot, not dried out and cold. The baked beans were really good too. We went back to the buffet several times and never had an issue of finding not enough food or cold food. Everything was piled high and hot from the oven.


ENTERTAINMENT: We were greeted by Chip and Dale upon entering, giving the kids big hugs and a wonderful photo opportunity. Upon entering the pavilion Goofy and Minnie were mingling with the guests, signing autograph books, getting pictures taken, and handing out hugs left and right. The house band was good and played many of the popular country music songs, which we enjoyed. The kids liked getting up and dancing with all the other children. Mickey and Minnie walked up and down the tables greeting guests as they ate, offering another chance at photos and autographs. The Rope Handler really caught our kids attention and they loved watching his tricks and act. I know that some people have said that the entertainment is hokey...well, yes, it kinda is, but it is geared for the kids and is supposed to be hokey. If you just let yourself be a kid you will enjoy yourself just as much as the little ones.


My only recommendation is to get there early for a good seat in front of the stage. This way you don't have to move to get a good view of the entertainment. I would recommend a good 45 to an hour before the start of the BBQ. There is a playground very close to the pavilion so my husband stood in line while I watched the kids play on the playground. He called me on my cell just before they let us all into the pavilion. This way the kids wouldn't get bored and ansty waiting in line.

*Since it is a 6:30 start time I am going to plan on being there about 5:30ish*

Thanks Michelle.... So you are volunteering your daughter to take all the kids to the playground while we stand in line? It works for me... Bruce (the 14yo going with us) is great with my kids so he can help out. I told him he is gonna be my official babysitter this summer so my dh and I can go out to dinner whenever we want... My kids him so thats always a plus.... I can't wait to go now... I'll try to not rush my summer but kinda hard not to...

Your kids would fit in great we all have kids around your kids ages... Its at 6:30pm and the only bad thing is you have to pay up front...

I know I looked on mapquest to see how far away you are from me - only like 13.5 hrs or so not too bad if we need a summer road trip.. LOL

Hey Michelle --- I noticed in your siggie this trip is a surprise?? so how ya gonna spring it on them.. I surprised my kids last Easter with a clue hunt in our plastic eggs and the last one said pack your carryon we leave for Disney tomorrow morning at 4am !! OMG they were so excited - they still say that was the best...

Well it WAS a surprise, time to change my siggy I had no choice but to be on the phone with CRO the morning Free Dining opened to the public while they got ready for school--I hid in my room on the phone and they HEARD me...BUT they don't know when..I told them it's after they go back to school HAHA

So we plan on telling them we are spending the day in Boston (so they will have backpacks with fun stuff packed for the day already) and have to drop gramma off @ Logan Airport that morning for her *trip* to Florida...but Gramma is really leaving us there and driving our car home. All luggage will be packed without their knowledge in the back of our SUV. Hoping it all goes off without a hitch
