Okay this sounds stupid i am sure, but is limewire illegal? like some people say yes others say no but i am getting really sickk of paying a $1.29 for songs. Okay thats all..haha thanks

I have eliminated this problem completley.
I recently got a Zune. and in many reviews people have said they love the Zune more than an ipod.
Well the Zune marketplace has a subscription program.
Basically you pay a monthly fee (i think it's about 15$) and you can get as many songs as you want.
now you have to plug it in every month to refresh the subscription tracks.
They also have a thing were you can get 10 songs a month for free and have those songs indefinitely.

All in all it saves loads of money.
especially when you have multiple music players.

Pretty sure in the US it is illegal to download from it.

From what I understand, in Canada, it isn't illegal to download. However, it is illegal to share the songs you download, or songs you have ripped from a CD.
So basically you just refuse to share any songs on limewire.
Which is a freeloader lol.

Who knows really. But you have to be careful with what you download cause it can put virus' in your system.

Before you use it, make sure you have anti-virus in your computer.

It's legal. It's a file-sharing program, which is legal in the U.S. I've used it for three years now and all my friends do and no ones ever had a problem with it. I've never even heard of someone getting in trouble for using it. It only becomes illegal when you distribute the material for money.

But LimeWire carries many viruses and trojans and is not safe at all. I'd recommend FrostWire. My cousin, who's an engineer and works on computers at his job, said that it's a lot safer than LimeWire and he's never had any problems with it.

i havent bought a song in a long time....for the same reason...a friend of mine who is uber rich buys all the songs in the top 100 on itunes even if he doesnt like the song

I had made a thread about LimeWire last summer and this is what I had said in my thread about it:

To me... I find it okay to use. Its illegal if you take it to another step, which would be, taking the songs, putting them onto/into a CD, selling them and making them your own! Its Not Illegal (to me anyway if you use it to just listen to music). You can still listen to the songs you dl'ed. Others who use it in an "illegal sense" will get into trouble. Others who don't use LimeWire in an "illegal sense" are fine (IMO). I'm only saying this, because I believe it isn't illegal at all. (That is if your NOT sharing the music!)

Limewire was illegal, because they only offered downloading of music. they have since went legit, be selling songs. I would buy songs from itunes, you get it cheaper..

I also get free music from youtube...

it is very illegal. at my campus, if you sign onto the free internet with a computer that has a program like limewire on it, the campus police will come to your class room, and ask you to shut your computer off, and if you do it again (3 strikes you're out) you lose internet privelages on campus (yes, they can and will block your computer from signing on.)

so why would you even want to download that crap onto your computer? i use napster, and its cheaper, and legal.

ditto for me. Any program that even remotely resembles file sharing is cause for loss of internet priviliges. Limewire, Frostwire, anything like that. UNH is stricter than MTSU, though it seems. If you get caught with it, they have the right to purge any files you can't prove you purchased from your computer as well as file charges for reimbursement. You sign a waiver at orientation saying you agree to this.

As I purchase most of my songs (and the ones I don't don't require a downloaded program), I have no problem with it.

well, with 23k undergrads, and a graduate college that numbers up in the 10ks, i just don't think there would be enough tech people/campus police to go around if they were THAT strict.

I'll admit, this summer I used several different free internet services provided by a university and hotels, and that entire time I was hesitant to even open Limewire. Especially with the university, I just felt really vulnerable.
But I don't think universities in Canada are quite nearly as strict about that as the ones you described above.

I think LimeWire is illegal.


What I do is I either use Real Player or Zamzar. All you have to do is find the song on say Youtube and for RealPlayer download video and then convert it to MP3 or whatever and for Zamzar just go to the website with the video URL and then convert it. Simple, free and legal.

Call me old school...but CDs are where its at...lol. The only time I would use an MP3 is if I go running or lifting but I do neither
