For new members, DVC will not sell less than 150 points.
But, you can do as we did.
We started out with a loaded 30 point SSR resale thru this site's sponsor, The TimeShare Store. Everything went smooth as silk - absolutely painless. IIRC, the contract we got was never posted on the website.... we got a phone call because I had asked to be put on their list of folks interested in small OKW or SSR contracts.
Soon afterward add-on fever struck. We decided to add 50 points directly thru DVC (now that we are members, we can do the small add-on). So now we have 80 points (160 this fall). We have decided to try the 1BR this fall instead of another studio. We have stayed in studios twice in the past thru rentals.
We did the add-on thru DVC for several reasons. It was simpler than the resale. More importantly, we wanted to get the same Use Year, and finding another resale on a small SSR in the right UY was probably gonna take a loooong while.
The resale got us into the system - that's what was important. After closing costs we added, we paid $87.50 for the 30 points, with 30 banked. The add-on was at $95, also with banked points.
I really don't see us needing many more points for our annual trip. But, if we do add again, we'll continue with a pay-as-ya-go strategy on small contracts.
Besides, if we decide to sell someday, it seems that the small contracts go the quickest.
So, I vote to buy whatever size you find on the resale (get into the system) - then do the add-on with DVC to get you up to your desired balance.
Stay in contact with your folks at the resale places. My resale came thru just a few days after speaking to my representative. The more you talk to 'em, the fresher you are in their minds.
