Likelyhood of getting a small 25 pt BWV from DVC?

Wondering what you all thought of the likelihood of getting a 25 pt BWV direct from DVC would be? Vs. getting one from a reseller? Still trying (seemingly in vain) to get some sort of small point package. (Looking for a 75ish package and found a 50 pt.) Thanks!

You know I see so many posts about DVC contracts with hundreds of points so, while I have no interest in selling the 80 OKW points I have had for about 5 years, I just wanted to wish you luck in finding a smallish contract. My brother and I kind of made the DVC leap together and he ended up buying 350 BW points for himself while I bought just 80 OKW points...he loves BW and OKW was and still is my favorite! He has big bucks, I don't! I have to say that, every now and then, I will rent a few of his points for my use BUT, for the most part, 80 points has worked great for me. I just plan shorter trips, off season when possible, and try to hit the Sun-Thur price point! I also have no qualms about banking and/or borrowing points when needed...works great and I am not saddled with huge annual maintenance fees. ALso do not feel compelled to take a trip just to use points! I think my brother sometimes is a little stressed about keeping track of his points and trying not to let any go to waste (yes he did rent some out one year to a relative and that was a good deal all around!) So, keep searching...good things DO come in SMALL PACKAGES!!!!

If you are already a DVC member, it is very possible to do a 25 point add-on from the wait list. If you are not yet a member, there is a minimum 150 buy in direct from Disney. There will be small resales occationally, but I would recommend getting on a resellers list, because most of them are sold before they are advertised.

I am not a member. I am looking for a 65-85 point property, preferably OKW. I have only been looking for about 3 weeks but I having difficulty finding anything. I am on a couple of lists but so far no go. We don't really need more points than that but will look at a slightly package as long as the price is right. The reason I have for asking is I have found a small 50 pt package. However that will not be enough, so before possibly buying something that small I was wondering what the chances are of finding 25 or so to add on through DVC or a reseller. Are my chances better to get a 65-85 package better than a 25-30 or are they about the same.

beezerdave, if you find a really good 50pt package, then you can most definitely buy that, and then get on the waitlist for adding-on another 25pts direct through Disney. There should be no problems with that, even though your total points would still be less than 150. Good luck!

(Also, I found the link to the thread I was referencing earlier... see above.)

When I talked to my guide a few weeks ago, there was no waitlist at all for OKW or BWV points. So, if you bought a 50 point resale, once you were a DVC member, my guess is you could buy the extra points you want, maybe even the same day!

For new members, DVC will not sell less than 150 points.

But, you can do as we did.

We started out with a loaded 30 point SSR resale thru this site's sponsor, The TimeShare Store. Everything went smooth as silk - absolutely painless. IIRC, the contract we got was never posted on the website.... we got a phone call because I had asked to be put on their list of folks interested in small OKW or SSR contracts.

Soon afterward add-on fever struck. We decided to add 50 points directly thru DVC (now that we are members, we can do the small add-on). So now we have 80 points (160 this fall). We have decided to try the 1BR this fall instead of another studio. We have stayed in studios twice in the past thru rentals.

We did the add-on thru DVC for several reasons. It was simpler than the resale. More importantly, we wanted to get the same Use Year, and finding another resale on a small SSR in the right UY was probably gonna take a loooong while.

The resale got us into the system - that's what was important. After closing costs we added, we paid $87.50 for the 30 points, with 30 banked. The add-on was at $95, also with banked points.

I really don't see us needing many more points for our annual trip. But, if we do add again, we'll continue with a pay-as-ya-go strategy on small contracts.

Besides, if we decide to sell someday, it seems that the small contracts go the quickest.

So, I vote to buy whatever size you find on the resale (get into the system) - then do the add-on with DVC to get you up to your desired balance.

Stay in contact with your folks at the resale places. My resale came thru just a few days after speaking to my representative. The more you talk to 'em, the fresher you are in their minds.

Thank you so much for this thread. That is actually what we want to do. Buy small for now. See how that goes financially and go from there.

It is wonderful to hear that others have done the same thing. It's nice to hear your stories. (and that add-ons at OKW are easily available from Disney.....yeah!!!)

Small contract here I come ....soon...

I'll second the thank you. We've been thinking along those lines too. So far we've only been to WDW twice with the next trip in Oct, but we're hooked. We live in CA and go to DLR quite often.

DW and I started that way. Looking for a little 50-75 point Contract but she really wanted BCV, WE waited for 3 months then i finally leapt on a 150 point contract that was so cheap we figured it would never pass ROFR. But lo and behold, that month or week or day $68/point loaded with banked points passed. It was a miracle given others on line just the week before got bought up at $75.
Now we wait, we are a growing family with more mouths and less budget but we keep looking at a 2BR and saying someday we will blow the college funds on some add ons (LOL)

There is no wait list for BWV from DVC right now, at least not for august use year. I just closed on a 100 point add-on.

If we had purchased at a resort other than SSR, we probably could have done the add-on via resale.

But, since SSR is so new, I didn't really seem likely that another small SSR contract would come up any time soon - especially in the right Use Year.

The resale was a little bit cheaper per point ($87.50 vs $95), even after closing costs - which is another consideration.

We could have gotten the second contract for $90, but not with the current year's points.

GOOD LUCK !!

BTW... we wanted OKW (low price and low dues) or SSR (availability and longevity). At current prices, if you allow for the extra 12 years, SSR still seems to me to be a better deal.

Just remember to buy where you intend to stay, especially if you really wanna stay at VWL, BCV, or BWV (and if you book more than 7 months in advance). Getting those small resorts is probably gonna get harder and harder at 7 months or less... Due to size, OKW and SSR shouldn't be a problem.

We always drive to WDW from AR - and end up at DTD every nite anyways, so SSR suits us perfectly.

We also started with 80 BWV, since we wanted to pay cash. We have since added on two small BCV contracts through Disney. The banked/current year points attached to the resale offset the closing costs, and we were in!

Thanks for the input everyone! That's definately the way we're going. Now we just have to find the right one.... Anyone selling? :teeth:

I just sent in my final closing papers and $$$ for a 40 point OKW contract. This will be my entry into DVC, but I'm already planning to add-on 100 points as soon as I get in the system.

If you do go for the 50 points at OKW, you could do a 25 pt add-on at OKW, BWV, etc.... and probably be better off than trying to get 25 pts thru resale. The smaller the contracts, the higher the per point cost will be after you factor in the closing costs (although the reduced closing costs Tom announced will help a bit with that).

smart.............do not borrow for DVC.........it is a big financial mistake that too many make............but it does fuel the resale market..........that and divorce and bankruptcy.

vascubaguy, I gotta ask....

If you are buying 40 and then gonna add 100 - why not go thru DVC for 150 to begin with?

Only wanted 140 and no more?

Simple entry into a sold out resort?

Well at first I had not intended on purchasing anymore than the 40 points, and I got a pretty good deal on those. I didn't want to finance a larger purchase and pay all that interest!

Then I found out I was going to be going to WDW in April and figured that rather than spending $600-1000 on hotel, I'd rather invest that in more points. :teeth: Yes, I'll have to "finance these" but I have a great credit card that gives me 15 months 0% interest on purchase and it also gives 1% cash back.

It all is seeming to work out pretty good for me because if I would have bought new I would have gotten Feb UY and the points for 2005. But since I bought that OKW contract which has Oct UY, I can get a 100 point add-on that includes 2004 points!

Hmmmm... I wonder if any small contract buyers stand pat :confused3

or do we all do add-ons?
