Still looking to buy in to DVC. Some say buy where you want to stay and others say getting other spots not a problem. So, if I buy SSR and typically travel in March, what are chances of getting a March ressie at another DVC resort at the 7 month window?? Anyone have experience on this?? I am trying decide to buy SSR low or pay more elsewhere. Chime in if you have advice for me.... I am really stressing....

Yes, there is always the possibility that you will be able to switch at 7 months for vacations in March. It also depends on room type, number of nights, when (weekdays vs. weekends), etc. You may get some of your nights, just not all.
But, the question is really how important are those switches and if they don't happen, are you going to be okay with SSR? If the answer is yes, then go with SSR. If you feel you are going to be disappointed, then I say go with a place that you would be okay staying if that is all there was.

I bought BLT, even though it would have been a lot cheaper to go with SSR, because I didn't want to take the chance of not being at BLT. I wanted to be able to book my whole trip in one resort at 11 months. At 7 months, I will most likely try to switch 2 of the nights to either BCV or BWV, but if it doesn't happen, I am okay with that because I know I am going to love BLT (we are CR fans and almost always stayed there before buying in to DVC just this past Jan).

Good luck with your decision!

There are some views/types of villas that are going to be tough to get if you don't own points at that resort - like the BWV BW view or the VB Beach Cottage. SSR THV or BLT MK view. So figure out where you wouldn't mind staying if you couldn't change that reservation at 7 months and buy there.

We own at OKW and VWL and if I couldn't change a reservation at 7 months to someplace else, I would still be happy because I love both of those resorts.

SSR is a wonderful resort (we like it almost as much as OKW) with great views, beautiful landscaping, etc.

March will be Spring Break season, so it may be harder to get some other place at 7 months, but it shouldn't be impossible if you try to change exactly at 7 months out. If you wait for three or four months out, it might be much more difficult.

We own at AKV, OKW and SSR and travel quite often to WDW in the Spring timeframe. We are able to change to a non-home resort many times as long as Easter does not fall right before or during the week we want to go. If there is a year when that happens, we usually just stay at one of our home resorts (which is fine with us as well).

I am hoping to get into BLT next April (a couple weeks after Easter) but this will be the first time I am attempting a 7 month ressie at that location. Wish me luck but I am thinking positive. Anyway it works out I am sure we will get into somewhere and have a fantastic trip.

So what about a ressie 7 months out the first week of May, at either AKL or SSR

You also have to consider the month of March is often associated with spring breaks for college and different sections of the country as well as around the Easter and Passover holidays... I have had success changing at 7 months but I have avoided the normal holiday break times like the plague.....
I buckeled and bought where I would like to stay. If I can switch at 7 months I do try....
I have owed alittle over a year and have stayed at my home VWL, BWV, and have vacations planned for Kidani, Jambo, and BLT (second home resort)

I think early March is easier than the last part of March because the last part of March is usually closer to Easter and spring break for grade, middle and high schools. Although ESPN weekend can affect early March a little.

As far as early May, I think if you call right at the 7 month window, you have a good chance of switching to your first choice (especially at the larger AKV and SSR resorts - although the treehouses and Concierge might be tough).

I would be happy with SSR every trip, so SSR was a no brainer for me. I like all the food options I have when I stay at SSR - Downtown Disney and Crossroads shopping area restaurants off Hotel Plaza Blvd.

I have found early May is usually pretty easy to get even less than 7 months out. Kids are still in school (for the most part). I have had good sucess getting BCV in May which is a smaller resort, so I would be shocked if you had any trouble at either AKL or SSR --unless you are going for a special category such as concierge or THV...

You shouldn't have any problems at all. AKV maybe a small chance of an issue. SSR shouldn't be a problem in the slightest.
