Like I needed more to worry about before leaving

Our toilet thingie broke this morning. You know, the lever pulls another lever which is attached to a cord which lifts the weight/plunger/whateverthingie?

The cord thingie broke.

So now, on top of getting everything ready for our trip on Friday, I've got to figure out how to replace that cord thingie.

My mom used a twist tie for years. Every couple of months, the tie would break and she would just put on another one.

If what broke is what I think you are talking about, then it isn't all that hard to fix!!! I would suggest though just getting a whole new kit (can be found at any hardware store). We were able to replace ours in no time at all. Just turn the water off when you flush so the tank won't refill

very simple repairables,, can even get kits at wal mart.. its called a flap replacemnent kit, or toilet flap, handle to lever lever to cord to plastic paddle looking thingy? if so the flap will snap of and a new one snaps right back in place,, i fix these in the dark with one eye closed( and ya know i only have one ) it's really a call the plumbers love,, a 50 dollar service charge and a 2 buck part,, takes about 45 seconds start to finish. if you have ??s can ask at the hardware .

Froggy -- that's exactly it. I figured it was easy to fix, but haven't ever done it before.

I'll probably stop at Lowe's on the way home since I need to get something else anyway for the garden.

A paper clip can work well as a temporary fix too. Although, our "temporary" fix paper clip has been in the toilet tank for probably 2 years now!!! LOL!!!!

What a pain -- but, like everyone else has said, it is a fairly easy fix.

I know this is a tough week for you -- sending lots of p and pd to you and your family ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*.

Thanks everyone. I was able to find what I needed thanks to y'all. 'Course, I didn't get the right thing.

Why didn't it occur to me that if the cord was plastic, it would be attached directly to the flapper? All I got was a replacement cord, but nowhere to hook it on the flapper.

So, as a temporary fix, the cord is now attached to the plastic cord via twistie tie until we get back from our trip. (Thanks for the suggestion)

Y'all were right, though -- that was easy to fix.

Now to find out if replacing the *flapper* as well is just as easy. Though that won't be for a week and a half
