Like a Bad Meal (V Keeps Coming Back) - THE END! 1/12/09

You went to WDW for the 4th, but didn't enter the parks?

Now that is a luxury of FL resident! :thumbsup2 How was Leo with this decision? Did he care at all?

I am shocked that the temps were that different! WOW! For some reason, I would think that it would be warmer inland.

I am really thinking that AP is a restaurant to be added to my list. How about checking the kids into the kids club and hitting a date night? Is it good enough for that?

Poor Leo sinks.

… you’re out of luck, because we didn’t go in any of them.

Don't blame ya...those crowds can be skeery!

Nothing says “America” like poolside games and Lynyrd Skynyrd!

:thumbsup2

. This, as I’m certain you’re already aware, would come back to haunt me.

::yes::

I was also excited because my DIS friend Janet’s mom works there and I’d get to meet her almost two months before getting to meet Janet! Read: I was out to get some dirt. Heh heh.

:eek: popcorn::

We checked in at the podium, took our buzzer-thingy and waited off to the side to be seated. A couple minutes later, I saw a woman CM walk by and KNEW immediately it was Janet’s Mom! Now, I’d never seen a picture of Janet’s Mom, but I’d seen some pictures of Janet, and of her DS. The family resemblance is uncanny across three generations. :goodvibes So, when Janet’s Mom came over to seat the next group (us) I said “Hi Janet’s Mom!” and introduced myself, along with Gramma and Leo.

:rotfl2: I can just picture her reaction to this!

We chatted a bit as Janet’s Mom led us to our table, and she is an absolute sweetheart! No dirt coming from her – she clearly loves her daughter to death and positively adores her grandson. It was just lovely talking with her and I’m so glad I’ll get ot see her again in a couple weeks for FockerFest. :goodvibes

:yay:

Janet’s Mom also told us she’d seated us in a special section with a very special server who was going to treat us right. And let me say, while I’ve since completely spaced on his name, he did, indeed, treat us right. It was the type of fine-ish dining I’d once enjoyed often at WDW, before Leo. To have my boy old enough to conduct himself properly in such a setting made me one proud mama and it was a real delight to treat ourselves to such a wonderful experience.

Jack:confused3

We had the usual assortment of menu, drink menu and wine list to peruse. Also, a story to read. About salmon. THE Salmon. Being served that night at Artist Point.

The Salmon was special. It came from the Copper River, somewhere way up in Alaska. And it had a mighty interesting and dramatic story involving the strength it takes for The Salmon to live in this long, cold river filled with rapids. The Salmon is available in only limited quantities and for one short period each year. The time of year when The Salmon makes the long, difficult journey up-stream to spawn and make new Salmon.

The Salmon was OFF the menu for us. After reading The Salmon story. No joke – Gramma was near tears. You should have seen her when they served The Salmon to the table next to us.

As for me, one look at The Price of The Salmon was nausea-inducing in and of itself.

Fifty.

Six.

Dollars!!!!!

For Salmon with a story.

Nohting says “America” like expensive Salmon with a Story.

It is their best selling item :confused3

Note that I was wearing long sleeves… in July… in Florida.

Are you crazy???

Nothing says “America” like a Lapu Lapu! :teeth:

:thumbsup2

Next: Leo sinks.

popcorn::

SO glad you got to meet mom. Here is mom's part of the story. She said "V was so sweet and cute and Leo was just adorable. She said Gramma didn't say much, seemed a bit shy. She can't wait to see you again at the Biergarten:thumbsup2

NO kidding? Jimmy is Janets mini-me! :lmao:

That's what everyone says:confused3

Hmm, sounds better than walking from DTD to SSR:lmao:
HI T and JO, ly/mi;)

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Wow, I can't wait to meet her in August now too :goodvibes

:yay: :yay:

Great update, V! :goodvibes

Ummm...talk about a mark up on the Copper River Salmon! Seems like everything is extra pricey in WDW. I buy Copper River Salmon every year (and, it is pretty fabulous, but maybe pick it up at Whole Foods and make it yourself!) and order it when I can in, very nice, restaurants and have never paid close to that price.

Passive aggressive mothers?? No, never. ;)

What a lovely evening overall! I am now more excited to try Artist Point.

Did you think the slide in the WL pool was a bit too wild for younger kids? DD will be 3 1/2 when we visit, and I wondered about it. No big deal though, I am sure it will be a fun pool regardless.

what no theme parks. :scared1: ok I am outta here. No only kidding. this should be interesting to read.

I heard they changed the fireworks a week before to a 12 minute show for the 4th.

the pics are very nice. :thumbsup2

also :thumbsup2 on the Lapu Lapu. I cannot wait to have one in 27 days.

No parks??:confused3 Never having been to WDW during a holiday, I couldn't even imagine the crowds!!! I don't blame you for avoiding the "slight" chance of wall-ro-wall people & their short tempers!:rotfl: After reading the price of the salmon, I had to RE-READ the price of the salmon! I don't consider myself "cheap", but come on!!!!! OK, maybe I am just a little cheap!:rotfl: That Lapu Lapu sure looked good! I have still not had one.:sad2: I must correct that situation.;) With the special fireworks, I thought they would have Wishes following at a later time. Guess not! Pics were great!:thumbsup2 Now one thing....long sleeves??????:faint: This year was the first & LAST time I will go in July!!! I know, never say never, but it was HOT!!!

You didn't go to any parks... I feel used. ;) Just kidding- I was questioning your Disney judgment, thinking it got too fuzzy, so am glad to hear that logic prevailed. All in all sounds like fun! I'm with you on the salmon- that would have been out of the question for me as well. No stories about what my food liked to do when it was alive, please!! :sad2: Your evening photos are gorgeous!

Leo sinks-- uh oh. And Gramma and the bunk bed has to be a recipe for disaster!

So Let me Get this Straight...

Nothing says “America” like Pacific Northwest cuisine!

Nothing says “America” like poolside games and Lynyrd Skynyrd!

Nothing says “America” like… passive-aggressiveness? :confused3

Nohting says “America” like expensive Salmon with a Story.

Nothing says “America” like cheese. ::yes::

A little sump’n in hand, we got to the beach just as the fireworks began.

Phew!!!

Nothing says “America” like a Lapu Lapu! :teeth:

Nothing says “America” like things that go BOOM!

Nothing says “America” like worn out, full-bellied, liquored up vacationers. :cloud9:

And there you have it... all the reasons V is "Proud to be an AMERICAN"
and she got all of them done in ONE DAY.

:thumbsup2 Another great read "V"

Okay, seriously.... when are you going to write a book about Disney? A memoir of sorts? Or a "World-According-to-V" take? You are such a GREAT writer!!! :worship:

Your 4th sounded wonderful... and what great shots of the fireworks/water parade...:lovestruc

Thanks again for a superb update!

Gramma: “I just need five minutes to shower, eat and change.”

Oh, that gave me a headache just reading it. Who on earth could shower, eat and change in "five" minutes????

Bunk beds!!!!!!

I really want to get those next time! I'm sick of sleeping with a kid on vacation and getting kicked in the face and back.

The Bed Bug Inspection.

Now I'm all itchy. I'm definitely taking cellphone pics of Googled bed bugs before our next Hotel stay.

For a whole bunch of crumbs in the blanket. And some hairs of dubious nature. Between the sheets.

One time I found a band aid in the sheets! The worst part? It was the in the morning so I had slept with somebody's nasty band aid!!!!:scared1:

Also, our predecessors left their room keys on the table. Somehow, having a name to place with the hairs made it that much worse.

It sounds like Mousekeeping just missed this room after check out.

… you’re out of luck, because we didn’t go in any of them.

You live so close and go all the time... why not take a nice break? If I get my Christmas trip I plan on only getting a ten day pass for a 14 day stay. I want some resort touring time and a drive to the ocean by golly.

A little sump’n in hand, we got to the beach just as the fireworks began.

Phew!!!

Nothing says “America” like a Lapu Lapu! :teeth:

My new quest... so can anyone just head to the Poly Beach and pick up a Lapu. I think someone else mentioned you have to get the Lapu in the hotel. These are plans that I must figure out...

Unless you're my friend Nevi, who had to take a beef production course as part of her undergrad requirements for her Animal Science degree (to become a vet later on). Then you have stories about a steer named MacGuyver who loved to get out of his pen and gambol with the other steers. He won the hearts of many of the students with his fun-loving disposition. Many pictures were taken of MacGuyver.

Sweet, fun loving MacGuyver, who gamboled right up until he was led to the truck bound for the meat processing plant.

Yeah. I still eat beef, though.

Glad you had a super 4th of July! Thanks for the long update. Hopefully it'll keep me till the next one. ;)

My brother will buy pigs or cows sometimes to raise and butcher. Then a few years ago he got some cows and one in particular loved him. He would go out in the field and they would literally wrestle with each other. He couldn't bring himself to butcher and eat her but couldn't afford to have lost all the money he put in to her so he sold her. Maybe if she had been a goat??? :rotfl:

Well, I noticed no one has posted here for a few days, so let me be the one! :goodvibes I've been MIA for 2 weeks due to going back to work. The beginning of the school year equals long 12 hour days for Ms Teacher, here. BTW, has Leo started? I'm not sure if FL goes back as early as us here in GA.

Anyway, while some may not be happy about one update in 2 weeks, I am - only because that means I am not too far behind. Very nice update. Seems like a great July 4th.

I have to admit, I also partly posted to show you my avatar and get in a little plug for that awesome AP poll that came out today, oh and the Coach's poll that came out two weeks ago. ;)

Hopefully bringing those two things up won't cause you to ban me from your TR, V, cuz you know I HAD to mention them, or I would have been kicked out of the "Bulldogs Rule and We Hate the Gators Club" and I cannot have that. ;)

I LOVE July 4th! Really, it’s my favorite holiday, tied with Christmas Eve. (That’s right, I’m partial to the EVE; the Day doesn’t do a lot for me. Feel free to psychoanalyze that one.)

I'm an EVE gal myself. I like Christmas Day too but for me it doesn't hold a candle to Christmas Eve.

In short: nothing less than a day on a yacht, followed by front row-center seats for the Boston Pops July 4th concert will fulfill my fantasy.

I’ve never even come close.

Hm. Perhaps next year V should come visit Tink in Beantown and party it up at the Esplanade while listening to the Pops and watching the fireworks!!

Nothing says “America” like poolside games and Lynyrd Skynyrd!

Big wheels keep on turnin'...

I love some Skynnard. Matter of fact, "Sweet Home Alabama" is the ringtone whenever my parents call my cell.
And no. None of us are from 'Bama.

Leo was busy doing whatever it is he does in the pool

What DO children do in the pool by themselves?
I used to played mermaid.

I'm the same way. PLEASE don't tell me about my meal before it became my meal. I also don't eat lamb or veal for similar reasons.
little mushrooms – ****ake perhaps?

I love the way the DIS must protect us from those cussing shrooms!

:thumbsup2

Leo sinks.

No! Leo! Listen to Dory! "Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming."

Hi all! At the rate things are going, I don't know when - or if - I'll get a chance to reply individually this time. I'm sorry! :guilty:

Tropical Storm / Hurricane Fay is breathing down my neck and I've got a LOT to do before she gets here. Things like fill 8 million bottles with water, take anything irreplacable away from the windows, get the battery-operated radio set up, take one last hot shower, catch up on other people's TRs...

... oh yeah, my office is closed tomorrow, so if I have power, I'm doing some DIS reading! And I'll try to get back here to reply better. But if I don't, THANK YOU for still reading and commenting! :grouphug:

Ok I feel like I am getting back on track here:rotfl2:
I have finally caught up....I feel much better now

I am so glad that you are getting better room mojo going on. 1st at BCV then at WL. you better start playing the lottery:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
OHHHH and the view of Eiffel tower OMG!

I cant remember our room # but we were 4th floor view of quiet pool.

Ok there is no way to write down all I am thinking but dont you just love when you sit down with a good friend to chat for a few and like 3 hrs go by. I havent had the chance to do that lately and it made me realize Im in need of that SOON.
Tea at GF:thumbsup2
They said the fireworks on the 4th were amazing.I cant believe the water parade got in the way and they had the music on for it too:mad:

V, I saw some really nasty flooding pics. I hope you and Leo and Grammy alright! Thinking good thoughts for you! :flower3:

Hope you guys are doing okay! Aren't you supposed to be at Disney this weekend? If so, hope you made it okay.
