Lights on in Space Mountain | Magic Kingdom - 9/29

While riding the People Mover through Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom, we were lucky enough to pass through Space Mountain with the LIGHTS ON! Watch and see what this legendary attraction looks like in a new light!

I remember one time a bunch of friends and I saw this from the WDWay too - you could tell who the "Disney nerds" were - we all grabbed our cameras, and got VERY excited (I think some of us may have even stood up in our excitement , while all the "normal people" around us wondered what in the HECK got us so worked up?

No Space Mountain is never run with the lights on to my knowledge. Lights only go on when the ride stops for technical reasons.

It's been done as special events for cast members in the past, but I don't recall it ever being done for guests.

I remember riding it with the lights on, I think early 2000's. Maybe it was part of a rehab or it was just restarting after going down. It's actually boring with lights.

Boring? How could impending doom of feeling like steel beams are about to lop your head off be boring?
It's scary enough as it is with the lights off

We've seen it with the lights on numerous times over the years, but always from the PeopleMover, never from the ride itself. A couple of years ago, we were on the PeopleMover during a bad storm. We saw lightening strike Space Mountain and sure enough, when we entered, the lights were on. Soon after that, lightening struck again and the PeopleMover stopped and after about 15-20 minutes, we were evacuated from the ride. We had to walk along the track and exit down a staircase that came out in the Tomorrowland Terrace restaurant.

When I did the YES Program the physics program let the students ride with lights on and off. Not sure it is still done. The Institute was restructured at the end of my program so don't know if it was kept in the tours. I know the other 6 hour tour I did was taken down to 3 hours. I'll have to go check and see if the Yes program still offers it.

It wouldn't be boring. For some people it is just another form of excitement, seeing any attraction bare so to so is interesting.

I agree. I would love to see some of the dark rides with the lights on. Haunted Mansion for sure. I'd love to be able to get in there with the lights on.

I'd like to ride Universe of Energy with all the lights off, actually. Also, the attraction completely turned off. Also, no one else in the attraction with me. Also, a blanket and a pillow.

I agree. I would love to see some of the dark rides with the lights on. Haunted Mansion for sure. I'd love to be able to get in there with the lights on.

Funny you mentioned Haunted Mansion. The America's Story Tour went behind the scenes in the haunted mansion's ghost scene to see how the dancing ghost scene happens. This happens while the ride is on and it is very dark. Going behind the scenes is what makes the tours interesting.
