Just another quick question! If it is thundering and lightening in wdw, is it still safe to walk around the parks without getting struck? Or is it best to stay indoors until the storm is over? :sunny:

I love thunder and lightening and love being out in it, the chances of being hit by lightening is very slim, i wouldn't worry about it. I did see a tree get hit by ligthtening while their june 2004 but trees get hit more common because of the height.

Have fun don't worry.

There are lightning rods all over Disney parks. But, that said, it's not the brightest thing to be out in it. It's always best to stay inside during a thunderstorm no matter where you are. You can still get struck. There are many, many cases where a tree got struck and the lightning traveled through the ground for several feet and injured and killed people standing nearby. Not worth the risk.

I agree with the previous poster, do not walk around when it is thundering and lightning. Also, Disney will stop all outdoor attractions when lightning is within a certain distance of WDW. They monitor this closely and also stop boat transportation during this time.

I would stay indoors if there is lightening around. Even if it hits a rod somewhere nearby, the potential that you could get zapped is still high. Then there are areas where you would be the tallest thing around. Better to be safe and find a nice place to hang out.

Florida is the lightning capital of the US. It kills.... stay indoors.

I must add even though i do love thunder and ligthening i would stay under cover but still wouldn't let it spoil my holiday.

Is also important to mention that lightning branches... it can strike a rod or tree and then jump from that to other places if it is strong enough. Personally if it was a hude electrical storm i would stay inside, as far as a normal 20 minute thunder storm we usually still walk around.

If it's just heat lightening, I wouldn't worry about it, but if it's getting ready to storm...I would rather be safe than sorry and stay indoors.

This happened to my sister-in-law and 2 neices in the Grand Tetons!!! The lightning struck a tree but then traveled to them. Fortunately they weren't killed, but pretty shook up. They had pictures taken of them afterwards, and their viens looked pretty creepy!!!I'd stay clear!!! :flower:
