light weight stroller advice

We'd like to bring a light weight stroller (no more than 17 lbs) to DL for our 3.5 year old that will be comfortable for him. By the time we go, he will probably be 35 lbs and 40 inches tall. He's too tall for the light weight stroller we currently have. I'm looking for one that sits higher off the ground with nice size foot rest and bigger wheels. A basket and at least one cup holder would be nice. Any recommendations? What has worked for your preschoolers at Disneyland! :)

Thanks!

Hey there, I was in the same boat and simply started by going to BabiesRUs and letting my 4 year old try out all the lightweight medium size strollers. This is the only way for us since she is 4 years old, 41" tall, and 45lbs.

I would rather not have to leave the park for naps/rests so I let her pick out one that fit her and was comfy. She's a great napper and has no trouble falling asleep just about anywhere. It took us a good hour as I really wanted her to be sure. Even though she said she liked "one" I made her try the others and if she didn't like it I made her tell me why. Some were a little narrow and the little bars under her legs were hurting her. Others simply smooshed her in.

She ended up picking out the Maclaron Quest:

The only feature NOT on this stroller is the cup holder. But it folds easily and is lightweight so we can take it with us on the monorail and train :) If you have any more questions feel free to ask :)

Thank you SO much, Mom2Joce! I've been looking on line at strollers and it's so hard to tell if he'd be too tall for them. Most of them just have weight limits but say nothing about height. It's nice to know that particular stroller worked nice for your dd! We will take ds to babies r us to try out the strollers, but it is so nice knowing ahead of time what has worked for others! That should save us some time! :)

Thanks again!!

Here is a link to the stroller that I own. It has a very big seat and my 6 yo dd can fit in it. The weight limit is 50 lbs. It folds up small enough to fit in the back of my van, but it is a full size stroller. I searched for this stroller after using the ones in the park. The wheels are air filled like a jogging stroller, but smaller, and the front wheels are swivel. Take it from a mom who's pushed 4 kids in strollers, you don't want to push a toddler in a stroller with small wheels around DL. If you want to know how much it weighs, I can find out for you, but the shipping box is 25#.

Thanks so much! That looks like a nice one that would be very easy to manuver! I would love that for my walks when I bring my son along! Not a bad price either! I hope they have one to look at at babies r us!

I can almost guarantee that they won't. I looked everywhere because I wanted to see one in person before buying, but I finally caved and just ordered online. They may have the Instep jogging stroller with a wheel in front that turns and you could get a sense of the seating area for the other one. I can tell you that I have zero complaints about my stroller which is unusual for me.

This is a link to the one I have seen in the stores. The only problem with this one is that the wheels are too big to fold down like the other one does.

It looks like we might be in DL at the same time! We get there 8/28. I'm staying at the DL hotel so I am planning on riding the monorail and getting my free stroller rental with the Disney Visa card. I'll be the one with the green Disney stroller. :rotfl:

We will miss you by a day! We are leaving to come back home the 27th. I'm really tempted by that stroller! The price isn't bad and there is free shipping right now. I'm just worried it won't fit in our van with all of our luggage for the trip down. Also, we may be taking it on the monorail. Is it fairly easy to carry around for a short time when folded up? Thanks again for your help!

We aren't too too far from each other.... probably just a few hours drive. :flower: Love that mountain!!

It takes up about the same amount of space as any other stroller in the van. I stand it up and it takes up about 1/3 of the back space in the van, but you could set it on top of luggage if you layed it flat. It is ok to carry short distances like getting on and off monorail, but I wouldn't want to carry it too far. There are stroller rentals in Tomorrowland right off the monorail - it sounds like you're set on taking your own, but they are great strollers, especially for older kids. I'll see if I can snap a digital pic and put it in a message tomorrow so you can see it folded.

Too bad we'll just miss you! You're brave to drive! I can't seem to get 1/2 hour away from home without a meltdown. Course my youngest is 2 1/2 and definitely in the terrible twos!

I just bought two of these strollers to take on our disney trip. Tori is 6.5 and 41 pounds and she fits great in it! My main thing was to find a stroller where the handles were higher so it didn't kill our backs by having to bend to push it. The handles are so high and it is so easy to push. It's 17 pounds, has a basket, and 4 positions. It doesn't have a cup holder so I bought a cup holder attachment for $6.

I just read the reviews and it is compared to being like the McLaren stroller.

Wonderful! Thanks! I think my dh is more likely to go for this one because of the price! It looks like it sits more off the ground then other umbrella strollers which is what we need for my sons long legs! Throw in a cup holder, and it should be perfect! We'll be trying him out in that one too!

Have a wonderful trip! We are just about 3 hours away from you in the Portland area. :flower:

I just showed dh the stroller you recommended and he REALLY likes it! He doesn't think we'd have a problem fitting it in our van with everything else. Thanks again!

We are lucky in the fact that our kids LOVE road trips. Our two oldest are 13 and almost 10 though. Doesn't mean I won't have my bag of tricks with me to keep them from getting bored though. :earboy2:

One tip if you are renting a stroller, go to your local box store (I did walmart) and buy a cheap bandana or scard (mine was 94 cents.) take it with you and tie it on the handle of the rental stroller, then you can find it easily in a sea of green strollers and no one messes with it. It worked great for us.

Great tip!

Hi,

I have a 3 1/2 yr old boy who is very tall. We go to DL every month, and never have enough room for all the packages and stuff! So i bought the Sit & Stand double stroller. Basically made for a toddler/preschooler and infant. Cole can stand or sit and I use the "infant" part for my diaper bag. It works great...I bought it just for our DL trips. We went yesterday and it was terrific.

Thanks! I'll look into that! The stroller I just tried to order is discontinued, so back to stroller shopping! lol

I've been wondering about the sit and stand stroller. Does it found up nice and small? We have a double stroller and it is huge when folded. We will have an almost 2 and almost 4 year old next Nov. And how much does it weigh, since we are flying we don't want it too big?
Thanks ::MinnieMo

We just bought a new stroller a couple months ago before our Disney trip as we needed a lightweight stroller and we wanted one that my 3.5 yr old dd could use as well as my 9.5 mo. old (not at the same time of course LOL). The Chicco Tuscany worked out really well. I'm not sure how much longer she will be able to ride in it comfortably, though, as she is pretty tall. But it's worth a look to see if it will work for you. We LOVE the stroller. It's really easy to fold up and nice and compact.

If you aren't picky, rather than buying a new stroller, join your local freecycle listing and post a wanted notice.

I have the big clunky stroller that came with the infant carseat system and an umbrella-style stroller that is way too small for my son.

I posted what I wanted, with a description, and got the perfect stroller. It's older, so sharing the info on it wouldn't help, but my son who is 43" tall can sit in it without his head hitting the canopy...and it has a footrest...and a padded seat...and folds with the twist of a wrist!

Best of all, it was free!

Wow! That's great, and free is a nice price! I'll have to check and see if we have something like that. I haven't seen it before.
