I'm a newbie when it comes to making t-shirts and have a question.

In one of the stickies, it was mentioned that you needed to use the dark transfers for a design that had white in it or the color of the shirt would show through. Then it said to cut out around the edges of the design before ironing.

How would that work with a design like this? It would be next to impossible to cut out the design and the letters... I wanted to put it on a red or dark blue shirt.

Fot that design, you definitely need to use dark transfer paper for your chosen colors. You have a few choices on how to cut it out...

First, you could print and cut out the Ears portion on of the design with a dark sheet. And then print the bottom text portion to a light transfer.

Second, you could add a border around the entire design (like a rectangular border) and the cut along th border. This, of course, would leave the white block.

Or lastly, you could cut, what I call 'loosely' around the design. Here is a picture of what I mean by that of some shirts that I did a couple of years ago.

I hope that this hleps!

Thank you SO much! I think I am going to try the loosely cut version.

Amy, where did you get that disign on the front of your shirts? I'm looking for something like that, but the image I currently have is too low res to print large. Also, what is your recommendation for a size to print a mickey head for the front of a t shirt?

The design is credited to DOM13. He was doing the best names in this fashion and I wanted it to just say weekends, so I chose some individual letters from his existing designs to make my own.

He had a 2010 one posted on his thread but the link is no longer working, you could try posting a request on his thread as I know he pops in from time to time but is not a real active designer so you may have to wait a little while.

The size of a design really depends on what size shirt I am putting it on. I normally do a test print to regular paper (in draft mode - to save ink) and then place on shirt to see if I like the size. Then repeat this until I am happy with the size. I am an 'eyeball' kind of gal, it has to look good to my eye.

I hope this helps!

Amy,you are on top of it again...you amaze me:)

Thanks Marilyn! You have changed your avatar now, but I wanted to ask about the one with the girl and the nurse? I assume your grand daughter but what about the nurse/doctor? Is that you?
