For the party the eve of HOTHS, my Jedi and Rey costumed children want to know if they will be allowed to carry a light saber (Build your own purchased at WDW) and a staff like Rey uses in Force Awakens.

They sell those on the ship. So, yes.

Sorry. I should amend my answer to say they sell SW weapons (sabers, blasters) on the ship during SWDAS. I don't remember if they sold Rey staffs last year before TFA came out. But if they sell and allow the sabers and blasters, I can't believe they would disallow her staff for HOTHS.

We are planning to bring a light saber for swdas. I feel like I've read that technically there is some rule that they aren't allowed but at the same time they sell them on board. We are going to chance it since ours cost $8 and I'm certain the ones on board will be much more than that.

I think the rule is geared more toward realistic weapons. Anything that looks like a real knife/sword/bladed weapon, anything that looks as if it could really cut or stab someone, even if it's actually made of plastic or rubber.

Any SW blaster replica that looks like or could be mistaken for a real firearm. A lot of those used in the films (at least, the original trilogy) were modified WWII firearms. You can just picture some teen or older cosplayer bringing in something super-accurate and looking just like a Mauser pistol or Sterling sub-machine gun.

Note how most SW blasters nowadays are all white or orange, to clearly indicate they are toys.
