Has anyone had any experience with this club? We're getting a new one near us this summer and it sounds pretty cool. Indoor and outdoor zero depth entry pools - both with two story slides, rock climbing, cool kid programs... Appears to be alot like the YMCA, but maybe a tad better. After paying the join up fee of $169, it would be about $112 a month for the four of us. It appears they also have a Run Club. I'd love to hear any reviews. Thanks! :thumbsup2

We belong to a Lifetime by us and enjoy it. Is nice having pools/hot tub/sauna available all year. Open 24 hours. Lockers and towels. Also like that all the classes (yoga, spin, pilates, etc) are included. Only specialty ones cost extra.

Never used the kids activities (DS is 19) and the running club at ours is for runners only. Since I power walk can't join so dont' have anything to pass along.

Only problem we've had lately is kids on the workout floor. It's posted that under 14 not allowed but people have kids doing activities elsewhere who then come up and hang out on the machines. Not good when you have four 9 year olds running around between TMs, bikes and elipticals. Have complained but not seeing an improvement yet.

However they are starting to increase our rates and if they do (would be $20/mth) we will drop it. Not worth over $100/mth for two people.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Liz. This facility will have a separate yoga and pilates area and it looks like it will be an extra fee for that??? :confused3

I was mostly impressed with the indoor pool with slide, rock climbing and the kid center and programs. We have a pool in our neighborhood, but I thought it would be nice to have the indoor pool in the winter or days it is raining. Also have a swim team and a yoga class for kids!

We belong to life time fitness and love it. We use the kids childcare they are awesome. Ours is kept clean and plenty of staff. I never see young children on exercise floor running around at our gym. I never have used the running club. Cannot help you there. I went to the ymca for a month and definitely prefer life time. I like the childcare better. I feel you are getting your moneys worth at lifetime. That is my opinion.:thumbsup2

Ours has a separate yoga and pilates area but are still included in the regular membership. Having the pool year round has been great.

I did notice this from the Mountain Brook location FAQ:\

Your membership comes with a host of free amenities you won’t find anywhere else, including free towels, lockers, a fitness assessment and general fitness classes and seminars. Additional fees are required for select premium amenities and services, such as personal training, spa and some of our innovative group fitness classes. Your Membership Advisor can detail what comes with your monthly dues.

Wonder what the "innovative group fitness classes" are? Hopefully not spinning or pilates :goodvibes:

I've been emailing with someone there, and their emails are quite vague. :headache: I just sent another email asking if pilates is included in the membership. Looks like it is gonna be very nice and a good fit for my family, but I'm always hesitant of these kind of places...

Shan,

I'd love to hear what you find out, especially if pilates is included in the membership. $60 for a single membership (and only $5 for a jr. membership) makes it pretty reasonable, especially being a 24/7 facility. It's a bit of a way out 92 for me, but could definitely be manageable.

thanks!

This is what they emailed me back -

We have two different types of Pilates. The Matt Pilates comes free with the membership and the Reformer Pilates is a fee based class. Our open date will be early July at very latest.

The enrollment fee will continue to go up as we get closer to opening. Right now the enrollment fee is $109.00, but today is the last day that that price is valid. The fee will go up every 150 members or every 15 days. It has already gone up once, so if you are interested now would be the best time to reserve your spot. Keep in mind that you are only reserving a spot to try it. If our club is not up to your standards you can cancel and get every penny back.

We can reserve your spot via phone or fax if you would like to take advantage of this price. It will only go up from here so don’t wait!

Geesh...I'm not a fan of that pressure.

I belong to lifetime and I can tell you that yoga and Pilate's are extra.. They have group fitness classes and have about four or five yoga/Pilate's classes that are included in the cost of the membership. it is a great place and I highly recommend it.

Ya, that type of email actually put me off. I worked at a fitness club when I was in college at the front desk and I saw the whole pressure thing, this is why I'm hesitant to join up anywhere.

Yet, this place looks so nice. We'll probably wait until we can actually see it before joining... I was surprised at the end of July! The flyer I got said spring...

We have a Lifetime over here in Alpharetta. I like it cause it cleared out my LA fitness when it opened. EVERYONE joined. They do alot of cool programs and it was great for alot of my friend who were so-so exercisers before they joined.

I thought the price was a little steep but I haven't ruled it out because the outdoor pool in summer sounds fantastic.

Why don't you come over and check out the one here and then meet me on the trail for a run? The trail I run on is off the same road only a couple miles away. My runner partner is going to the Bahamas this week so I am solo after tuesday.

I want to come run with you! Can't this week, though and it is looking like next week is going to be just as crazy. I had to sit down with the calendar and figure out all my runs. I usually run when the kids are in school, but it is like everyday I have something going on. Is this trail the one we emailed about before?
