Lie about dates to get ADRs?

Say I book for September 2009. I am REALLY only staying for 4 nights, but I want to get an ADR for LeCellier.

SOOO....I book my trip for 10 nights, and book my LeCellier ressie for the LAST night of the 10 night trip, thereby booking at 7am on the 190th day...

THEN....I call back to the ressie dept. 2 months later and remove the first 6 nights of the trip at no charge for the cancellation.

Anybody ever do this? I haven't tried to find ways to beat the system yet, but I'm getting a bit miffed at how quickly things book up and am starting to wonder..."If I can't beat em....should I join em?".

This thread should get interesting. I would think the normal variety of responses from "way to go for being crafty" to "that's lying and cheating and not play fair with the rest of us who only have a 4 day reservation."

I have never tried this but I did encounter something a little different when I made my reservations a few days ago.

I needed a reservation for 2 for LeCellier and Coral Reef for our December trip. They did not have anything available for a party of 2 at either of these on the nights that I wanted. The cast member that I spoke with said she would just trick the system a little so that we could get a reservation. She put in the system that we were a party of 3 and we were able to get basically any night of our stay. She told me to just tell them when we arrive that 1 of our party was not able to make it.

Don't know that this is really the correct thing to do but it was not my suggestion, it was hers.

I 100% agree with it being lying....and let me say that I have NOT done this...and I doubt I would have the gutz to do it as cricket is in my head...dang it cricket! :goodvibes

However, I am wondering how people can call on the 180th day for their ressies and in all honesty at 7:30am when they get through NOT be able to get dinner or lunch at a place like LeCellier...I hear it all the time on the boards how they couldn't get things.

My question I guess is WHY? Are restaurants so overcrowded that it's 'luck of the draw' or are people just finding ways to beat the system such as lying???

The current system of 180 plus 10, essentially penalizes those people that don't book long vacations. While this is NOT a reason to lie, the facts are what they are and those with longer night trips can get better ADRs than those with short trips.

Whether this is fair or not could be up for debate depending on who you talk to. Not sure what I think about it.

I don't think it is all reservations just the few very popular places, of which Le Cellier is one. I think the recent problem with Le Cellier (and one I encountered myself when I made ressies last week) and other Epcot locations is that tables are being held back for CP. I would expect when CP opens up there should be movement in ressies.

In terms of other times of the year, people may be lying and booking nights and then cancelling as you describe above. Seems like a lot of work to me just to get one dinner reservation but I am sure there are some who do it.
I think in general the word is out that you need to make your ADRs early and so it is becoming more competitive for the high demand locations.

We are arriving on a Sunday and were certainly shut out of certain places at certain times b/c of those arriving on Saturday and we are staying for 7 nights. I don't think it is just length of stay that is a factor but also day of arrival.

I actually did do this, not knowingly. I booked my hotel ressies for 10 days and, about 2 weeks before we left, canceled them down to 8 days. Funny thing is I just took off 2 days at the end of our trip....so, we really didn't gain anything by doing it.

Either way, good luck.

It seems like a lot of trouble just to eat at Le Cellier. I would just try to get a table with your dates. I have been to Le Cellier for every trip. I had to do some waffling with times but I got a table.

Good luck to you!:wizard:

Well if this is what you have to do, well do it. When I booked our Chef Mickey tables they were two of the last ones available for the day and times we wanted. And I did call at our 180 day mark, very early! I just wonder if this is what people do to get tables at their resturant of choice during the holidays.

Can you tell me what/where/who is CP? Thanks

I wonder the samething as well. THe last two trips I have made I called on the 180 day mark for Le Cellier, and didn't have a problem. In fact got the times that I wanted, and it was for 2 people.

The OP mentioned for a September trip, so I don't think that really comes into play for them. For others though, it is something to be reckoned with.

Personally, I think it is a bit much for an ADR at any of the restaurants. I'm sorry, but the food/ambiance/whatever draws you to the restaurant isn't that good.

All this trouble for Le Cellier? You have got to be kidding!

Honestly I was considering this too for my trip - I'm going over christmas and ANY reservation is going to be extremely difficult to get especially considering that we don't get there until the 23rd.

As far as whether or not this is penalizing people with short vacations... I don't think this is the case as I can have a 20 day vacation beginning in a very busy time and another person may have a 5 day vacation starting before mine and that other person can book before me! I think it should be 180 days out from the date of the reservation as this seems most fair.

Am I missing something here? The only people who get the 180 + 10 are those staying on Disney property right? So what difference does it make how many days you're staying then? If you're calling to book on your 180 day mark and staying on property, how would adding days to your vacation help with an ADR at Le Cellier? :confused3

i liked the original "180" arrangement where everybody called for that exact amount of days out - not the new 180+10 day arrangement

as much as i like the convenience of being able to make ADRs for the entire trip in one phone call, the fact that the ADRs for days 181-190 have already been called by people arriving up to 10 days before me, thus making some restaurant times less available to me when i call at exactly 180 out

does that make sense?!

in response to OP, i wouldn't lie or change ressies just to eat at le cellier

or anywhere else, for that matter - it's just food!

I personally wouldn't do it. With my luck, I'd be jinxed and have a horrible trip all the way around as punishment:confused3

Because you only get the +10 (meaning you can call 190 days out) if you are actually staying 10 days prior to the date you want to book the reservation.

Example: My trip begins Dec. 23rd, and I am concerned that I won't get any reservations for Christmas. Christmas is very special in my family so we want to eat a nice meal, and since we aren't staying long this year it is not an option to stay out of the parks that day. Because the parks hit capacity we can't leave and get back in (well not easily anyway). With my current booking I can call and make reservations 180 days out from Dec. 23rd for my whole trip (up to 10 days of trip - not a problem for me as I'm only staying 4). People that are staying from Dec. 16-Dec. 25, for example, can book their christmas dinner reservations 8 days before me. This means I will have a difficult time getting any reservations for Christmas eve or day unless I use the above mentioned tactic.

I hope that made sense!
