Lice how long to stay away

I would stay away! The kids that get it... sometimes can't get rid of it... they really have to clean the house too... change sheets... clean carpets.. etc... some kids can't get rid of it.... When I hear its going around I put a ton of hair spray in my childs hair. It is crazy.

I am dealing with it right now!!!! Treated my daughter's hair twice in the last two days, sat for two hours and picked nits out. Washed everyones bedding, vacuumed everything and packed up things that couldn't be washed! I called the doctor and he told me that chances are everything is dead and that I just had to pick out the nits and retreat her in a week. I feel pretty confident that I have gotten them all. I wouldn't hesitate to go into someones house after they have done all the necessary measures to take care of the issue. But then again I wouldn't blame any one if they wanted to stay away from us for awhile either. Each to their own!

My head is itchy just from reading this thread!!
DD got lice a year ago. The best thing that we did, was get the prescription stuff from the Dr. Yes, it's a total chemical, but it killed them once & for all!!
Now, we wash hair every other day & hairspray it every day. Most of the time it's pulled back as well.
Personally, I wouldn't go to someone's house that I knew just had lice, because although you may bag up and/or wash everything, someone else might not.
One more thing, if you've never seen them before, then you really have no idea what you are looking for. I thought I had seen them in DD's head, but it wasn't them. The school nurse pointed them out to me.
Good luck!

I'm sorry but do you know how silly this sounds? I thought you meant go to their house. Do you have any idea how many kids are going to be at Sesame that probably have live lice that aren't treated? do you know how many are at the mall? You may as well never go anywhere if you miss a day at a public place because of a child who you know has been treated.
You do know how it is going to make her feel right? Exactly like everyone does even tho they say "oh don't feel like that" but then friends go and won't go to a big open park with your contaminated child so how else are you supposed to feel.

You do know she didn't even have to tell you, then you would have went and had a good time.

I would absolutely go to a public place with them. the child is going to be in school so the same amount of contact.

Hannathy,
Thank you for your opinion which you are entitled to, but because it sounds silly to you doesn't make that the general consensus. First of all it is my husband's cousin which her and I have a very honest relationship and she herself said yesterday after finding another live lice on the child I would not want you to be around us either this weekend. So no I am not hurting her feelings - honesty is the best policy for me.
Secondly I stated in my previous post that there will probably be other child there who have it ( I am just not aware of them) Silly as it may sound it's the point of me actually knowing I am with someone who is infected and my girls are head to head with her on the rides.
No she didn't have to tell me but again we are very honest with each other so she did!
And no the children are not in the same school since we don't live in the same town.

This is why I hardly ever post on the boards cause somebody always has something to say

We are dealing with this right now AGAIN. The most important advice is to tell your friend to make sure she keeps FINE COMBING those nits out!!!! DD had them early summer while we were on vacation and I combed and combed after the treatments and kept combing for weeks she was lice free for months. I still check her hair periodically which is why I found a very early case just this past weekend. Two live lice and just a very few nits so we caught it early but I will again be combing and combing and washing EVERYTHING!!! The good thing is thus far no other family members have gotten them.
