Hi! When is the trip? Early January 2009, they are eliminating the characters at LTT but I am not sure if they are actually changing the menu as well.
We ate at LTT for dinner in July. The character interaction was great (but as I said above, that may not apply to your friend if it is after early January). We loved the food! The roast beef and turkey were delicious, not dry at all. They gave delicious gravy with it. Salad was good, rolls with honey butter were excellent! They also gave mac and cheese (excellent) and green beans, which were very tasty. I think there was also ham, but it doesn't stand out in my mind. The dessert was amazing...warm apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream and very good! They bring everything to you so it is nice not to have to get up to go to a buffet but still have all you can eat and everything included! They offer seconds and the service is excellent. We never needed seconds though, plenty of food for the 4 of us one time around!
Now, a little about us (I think this is important when someone is critiqueing a restaurant, to know their personal preferences)...we love really good food, but we are not extremely picky and we go to WDW expecting good quality, but not 5-star or gourmet. In fact these are our expectations on all our vacations (Disney, cruises, Lancaster PA, Washington DC, New England, etc.). We are from NYC and have some of the finest restaurants here, but we do not eat in the majority of them (too pricy for our budget)! But we do still expect good quality food on vacation. That is what we got at LTT and the kids were also very happy. DH and I are both 31 and our kids are 1 and 3.
Chef Mickey's, we went to for breakfast and it was excellent, but we did not go for dinner. If it is comparable to Crystal Palace's buffet dinner, that was excellent, although I have read here that Crystal Palace has some of the best buffet food in all of WDW. We are going to go to Chef Mickey's for dinner on our next trip.
