Liberty Tree Tavern dinner substitution?

The dinner menu includes mashed potatoes, green beans, macaroni and cheese, Declaration Salad (which is still the same fresh mix of crisp Iceberg Lettuce, Shredded Carrots, Red Onion, and Cherry Tomatoes), cranberry sauce (on request) and dinner rolls. Plus Johnny Appleseed tart, with apples and cranberries, plus vanilla ice cream. If the only issue is meat, there appears to be quite a bit still offered that the 13 yr old could eat. The dressing looks like it is served with the meat. They could request it be served in a separate bowl.

I have friends who are vegetarian and Disney has always been able to deal with them, but... it's not like they have a choice of a lot of entrees at some places.

So if this is the "my son only eats X' disease then... you may be unhappy.

(Reminds me of a woman at the QS location in Mexico. "My son only eats Potatoes I need potatoes or French fries" Staff, "we don't have potatoes" Woman, "but that's all he eats" Staff, "I am sorry, perhaps you should try the American pavilion" Woman "but he only eats potatoes I am sure you have some back there why won't you give them to me?" Staff, "we are sorry" Woman, "I need potatoes, please bring me a manager" Random guest stuck in line behind woman "LADY, the manager isn't going to have potatoes, get over it" Woman "but that's all he eats". And so on... She continued her demands until a manager pulled out of line... She then stormed off a few minutes later apparently without potatoes! It was actually hysterical! It felt like she was convinced if she just kept demanding what she wanted they would magically produce it from where they were hiding them. )

I need to not be in customer service because I'd be asking her if she expects me to pull them out of my butt :-p

1) LTT will make a Vegetarian meal.
2) But, do not expect them to go much further out of their way.
3) Disney is a mass-marketer, and that includes meals . . . meals are not priced for major changes/substitutions
. . . they accommodate allergies
. . . they accommodate vegetarians
. . . they expect others to eat from the listed menus
Even for me, someone with a true disease, they can only offer what they have.

Once at 50's Diner, I had a fruit cup as an app because they didn't have a gluten free app.

Now, I would order that fruit "cup" any day of the week. It was huge and delicious. But it was my only option.

I don't understand why you don't go at lunch. :confused3

He can get the Fish & Chips and you can get the Pilgrim's Feast, which is a smaller version of the dinner and you can add a salad.

They also offer a popular Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake.

You both get your tastebuds satisfied without a big hassle or surprise on arrival that they will only offer him the non-meat sides.

I am not trying to be snippy, but I do not understand why you would keep this ADR knowing that in order to accomodate your picky eater, you are going to ask the manager to make changes to their menu. This makes no sense. I understand wanting to dine in specific restaurants, but I do not understand going in knowing that the menu is not suitable.

Why? Because my family would like to dine there. I will not be demanding that Disney accommodate my family but why not ask? Disney seems like they accommodate a lot of people with different issues. Am I breaking some kind of rules by just asking?

But is does not sound like the child is a vegetarian, but is picky and wants fish, which is not offered on the dinner menu. If this was teh case, and I was dining with a pescatarian, I would contact Disney directly and ask if this is something the restaurant is equipped to handle. I would not spring it on the manager upon checkin.

Wasn't going to "spring" it onto the manager. If you read my post, I was going to stop by a week before and ask if it is possible. If not, I would cancel. NO harm done.

this is a great suggestion, OP. think about it.

This belongs on the meltdowns thread!!! :rotfl2:

no, you're not. people on this board are sometimes overly preoccupied with what other people are doing and with what they perceive other people are getting away with (though I will say in general Nancy is not, I think she misread your op :) ). My feeling is if you can't be a special snowflake in a place that prizes customer service like Disney does (regardless of how you feel it compares to years past) where can you be? I think honestly as long as you ask and are polite and don't act entitled or throw a tantrum if you don't get your way, there is no harm in asking for any special requests. I think a fair number of people do come back here to the boards with their knickers in a twist when they don't get their way at a Disney restaurant for what is a rather unreasonable request... but nothing your are asking about is remotely unreasonable, especially since you wanted to stop in in advance and see what they can do for you. That's what the magic is all about and if they can't accommodate you are willing to go elsewhere. That said get a few orders of turkey and pot roast and some salads and get your kiddo his fish and chips and have the ooey gooey cake that everyone raves about and save yourself some money in the process if you can live without the ham. You can probably even get a couple of kid meals worth of mac and cheese if you want to round it out and still save money over the aycte price. and the dessert is better ;)

Thanks, I appreciate your reply. I think the best is to just go for lunch but we have enjoyed LTT in the past for dinner (when we had free dining) but it's pricey, if someone doesn't eat what's on the menu. Hope your next vacation is magical:thumbsup2

Does anyone else think it ironic that the earliest Pilgrims likely ate more fish than meat!!

No, you are not breaking any rules. There is never a problem with asking for something, but I genuinely did nto undestand why anyone would choose a meal that a member would not eat. I was not trying to offend, and I apologize if I did.

Wasn't going to "spring" it onto the manager. If you read my post, I was going to stop by a week before and ask if it is possible. If not, I would cancel. NO harm done.

I did misread your post. I did not realize that you meant that you woudl stop in a week early, it looked like you booked the meal on that timeframe.

this is a very silly argument to make about a restaurant on a luxury vacation however. "eat it or go hungry" is not really where most parents want to be on vacation.
It was made in direct response to the comment that the Pilgrams ate more fish than meat.

It was not recommending that any restaurant, at a luxury vacation or not, take that attitude.

You will probably be more successful at lunch. Both the pot roast and the turkey are available and the kid will have a variety to choose from instead of whatever substitution they decide to offer.
I agree.

Something to remember, you don't get to choose what you want substituted. So, if he wants the fish and chips that is offered at lunch, you will have the best luck going at lunch. Otherwise, they may offer him something that he doesn't like.

OP, I recommend that instead of asking if they offer a vegetarian option at dinner, I would ask what vegetarian option they offer. Because the option might be something that your son won't want.

He will be able to eat the sides, like Mac and cheese, salad, and vegetables, which should be a pretty full meal. I have also read reviews that say they were offered a veggie burger at dinner. My suggestion is to post to the vegetarian dining thread, where you may get actual answers from vegetarians rather than comments and judgements from the peanut gallery. :-)

Good luck! Have a magical trip!
