Libby’s Trip – Day 6 Trails End Buffet and Magic Kingdom

Cast – Me 43 in love with Mickey Mouse
DH (of 20 years) 43
DS 14 cynical teenager
DD 11 a stroppy little madam

Location – 14 day holiday at Windsor Palms with 1 night trip to Royal Pacific Resort

Date – August 11th to 25th 2005

Tuesday August 16th

Once again I woke early, but after the strops of the last few days I leave everyone to catch up on their sleep. I have breakfast, put on some washing and watch TV. At about 10:30 DD gets up and wants to try out her new 43” ring in the pool. DH and DS are up soon after. After a while DD comes inside – just as the pool man arrives.

We’re breakfasted and dressed and out of the house by 11:30. We have a 1:10pm ADR at Trails End so we head straight for Magic Kingdom. We park in Goofy 46 and then take a tram to the monorail. There are no ticket checks today before getting onto the monorail. It’s nearly 12 by the time we get to MK so we go and wait for the ferry to Fort Wilderness. Once the boat arrives I’m surprised to see that they are identical to the ones that go to the farm at Thorpe Park – only this time we sat inside for shade instead of warmth.

It was a pleasant trip and we get to see the refurbishment work going on at the Contemporary Resort and also a peek at Discovery Island (which used to be my favourite WDW place). The first stop is Fort Wilderness and we get off and walk out into an oven. It is so hot today it is quite unpleasant to be outside.

I had planned to go to the petting farm but there were no animals to be seen (I don’t know whether it was due to the time of day or the heat). In fact the whole place seemed deserted. There were one or two abandoned golf carts but no people. We went to the shop and sat out on the veranda on rocking chairs for a while before wandering over to the restaurant.

There were only two other tables occupied (and they finished and left while we were eating). Our waiter was a little over keen and sounded just like Brains from Thunderbirds – DH and DS kept referring to him as Mr. Hackenbacker (I hope he didn’t hear them).
The food was very basic – and I don’t know how long it had been sitting there with so few people there – but it looked OK and was tasty and filled us up. There was soup (tomato and basil) with corn bread, chicken, pizza, vegetable, salad (I took a large portion of grated carrot only to find out it was cheese!) and apple cobbler for pudding. Other desserts, if we had wanted them, were extra as were the drinks. We paid $52 including tip for 4 adult meals. I can’t say I’d go there again but if I did I’d go in the evening as it is weird to be the only people in a restaurant.

After lunch we had a look at the stuffed bear at the other end of the restaurant and then went outside to look for the famous lawnmower tree. We had to ask 3 different people before we found it (one of whom said we ought to come back in the hot season – I hope he was joking!). The tree itself isn’t what I’d imagined – it just has a bit of metalwork poking out at the bottom of the trunk.

After this we caught the ferry back to MK. This stopped at Wilderness Lodge before the MK.

Once in MK we buy ice creams and then get a fast pass for Buzz Lightyear. We then go on TTA and then Carousel of Progress. The CM here said that they had been making improvements to the show and we should look under our seats for 3D glasses (I think I was the only one who didn’t fall for this).

Before heading back to Buzz the boys got fast passes for Space Mountain. We then rode Buzz but DD got such a low score she has a strop. To calm things down I take her off for half an hour while the boys go back to Space Mountain. We go to the Main Street shops and I buy her a hat that states “Mood subject to change without notice!” By the time we all meet up everybody is happy. I want to go to Haunted Mansion but DD doesn’t, so she and DH go off to do Pirates of the Caribbean again and DS and I go to Haunted Mansion. I don’t know whether he is amused or embarrassed when I squeal at things popping up from behind gravestones.

All together we go on It’s a Small World but it is spoilt by a Spanish speaking family shouting at each other in the row behind, they even drown out the music – I know some people would think this was an advantage. After the ride we go back into the queue and
Ride again. This time I can appreciate how much fresher the attraction is since its rehab.

We’re now hungry so we head for Pinnochios Haus but it has already stopped serving for the evening. (There was another family inside trying to find counter service pizza). We head for Columbia Harbour House (again I’m only aware of this from the DIS boards) which from the outside DH doesn’t even think is a restaurant. (I think this is now my favourite fast food in MK). We all have either fish and chips or tuna sandwiches. DD doesn’t really like hers but has some of my chips – DS goes to buy a second portion of fish and chips as the first did not fill him up.

We go over to the castle to watch Cinderellabration. It’s still very hot but bearable to stand and watch the show – we have quite a good view until a lot of dads put their kids on their shoulders. I don’t know how to get round this because obviously the little ones would see nothing if they weren’t lifted but now we have to move to see thus affecting the people behind us.

Next we go to Hall of Presidents mostly to cool down but I find this more interesting and informative than the American Adventure at Epcot. DS buys a $5 George W Bush doll – I dread to think what he’s going to do with it! Then we do a rather dusky jungle cruise followed by Aladdin’s carpets (I sit at the front for the first time and find it a little scary – I don’t do heights!).

We then head for Main Street and do a little shopping. We then find a place behind the flagpole to view Wishes. It’s not a perfect view but seeing as we only found our spot 5 minutes before the show I’m quite happy. At the end of the show we are in a perfect position to catch the monorail back to the TTC. On the way I think I see the Electrical Water Pageant, but now I think it might have been the reflection of one of those illuminated message toys in the window!

We get on the 2nd tram and once back to the car it doesn’t take too long to get back to the villa. In the distance we can see a storm. It’s not long until we are all in bed.

I can honestly say that if we haven't been on this ride during our holiday then we have done very well :rotfl: Another great day Libby

Lol at the thought of what your DS might do with a George Bush doll.

Sounds like a better day today.
