Hi

Due to my increasingly frustrating search for reasonably priced flights for Christrmas I am now considering flying from Heathrow to Miami then driving to Orlando.

The flight I am looking at is a direct flight with American Airlines which lands at 2.40pm in Miami. We will be looking at staying in a villa along the US27, so given a clear road!! how long approximately should the drive take?

Any pitfalls I should be aware of either with the airline or the proposed drive. DH & I can share the drive so hopefully it should not be too tiring!

Hiya,

I drove from Miami to Orlando on my first trip to Disney when I was a wee lass of 21! (1992)

It took 4 hours in total, was a very easy drive but we did stay over at Miami airport and drive down the next morning.

Have you considered flying BA to Tampa? We did this last Christmas - it worked very well for us and was cheaper than flying in to Orlando. That's only 1 1/2 from airport to WDW and is a real easy drive.

you should be able to complete the drive in 3.5-4 hours, it's pretty straight forward. I've flown AA a few times and their seats are noticablt bigger than Virgin and BA.

I was hoping for flights to Tampa as a second alternative to Orlando. However, the prices seem to have shot up for these flights. Unfortunately, I am tied to school holidays which are always more expensive, so I am looking for the best deals - which are few and far between

There's a nice rumour going about that Virgin are going to start using an Airbus A340-600 on the Miami route this summer.

These are brand new planes with the fantastic V-Port entertainment system on them Virgin Entertainment , which will be fantastic.

We did LHR-MIA in October - took about 4 1/2 hours in the dark (but we went across country as we were staying out on SR27) - the return trip took about the same but that was in a real Floridian downpour that meant we couldn't go over 30 mph for the first hour

Have just booked (I'm so excited!) to fly from LHR to Miami with Virgin in the summer and we were told it would be an Airbus - fingers crossed!

We often go this route as we live near Heathrow. We find this cuts down on costs as someone can drop us off instead of paying for car parking or tax fare! Also, having to allow for the M25 traffic we leave so early that catching one of the earlier flights from LHR is no difference to what time we leave home. Takes about 3½ hours to our villa with a quick stop to change over driver and grab a cup of coffee. We get in about the same time we would have from LGW.

However have to agree about the downpours. We have come up the turnpike with torrential rain and it is not fun driving.
