We have decided to buy. I was wondering if you all could answer a few more questions for me. Mainly about bringing extended family with you while staying in a DVC resort. We have planned a trip next year with my sister in law and her family including daughter in law and grandchild. She mentioned she would be interested in renting the extra points we would need to get a grand villa somewhere so we could all stay together, and also renting our points any year we didn't want to use them. This is permissable right. Can guest you bring with you or rent to pool hop as well? Is there an additional guest charge ? Do they get some form id like when staying in other resorts where everyone gets a room key; card thing??

You are all so wonderful and a wealth of information. Thank you.

Guests traveling with you will indeed get to pool hop with you, but as for some of the dining discounts, we have had guests refused that perk in the past. Now that each guest must have their name on their ID card (key), I should say member on it if you are staying with them.

Yes you can rent out your points if you choose to, but you can also bank one years points into the next year, and doing this, you could feasibly have a total of 3 years worth of your points to use for a stay. You might even be able to afford that GV yourself by doing that. Are you planning to buy at SSR, or are you planning on a resale? You want to make sure the resort you own at has access to GVs, since the two smaller ones (VWL and BCV) do not have GVs.

Guests who are with you can enjoy the perks you are entitled to. Pool hopping is based on cacapcity so you nenver know for sure though. You would have to check with the CM's at the resort you wanted to hop to.

There is no additional guest charge with DVC. It's up to a certain number of people per room.

Everyone gets a "Ket to the World Card" that says "DVC Member" on it. Most places take that as proof of membership but more and more they are asking for the Blue Member Card and Picture I.D. as well (they did this the last time we bought DVC pins a few weeks ago.

Good lcuk with your decision. What you are talking about sounds like it would work.

We were looking into buying at SSR. I guess we could look into BWV and OKW resales. We could possibley afford more points this way. Do you know if there are any advantages to buying new rather than resale and vice versa? I know about the awesome incentives Disney is offering right now. That is why we have decided to go ahead at this time. That and with 3 future trips already planned it seems to make sense.

Thanks.

The difference between buying one of the older DVC resorts through resale and buying SSR through Disney is the extra 12 years with the newer resort. SSR has GVs, so you would still have that availablility. It is only VWL and BCV that don't have GVs.

Ease of purchase is another consideration. You can buy direct from DVC in one phone call, and make your first reservation within 24 hours.

If you go resale, first you need to find a contract to your liking. Once you have that contract, plan on about 60 days from offer to actually being listed in DVC's computers as the owner--and that's assuming your contract doesn't get grabbed by ROFR. If so, you start all over again.
