Letter came home about kid sick with H1N1 flu

I work in health care and this is just not so. Norwalk is a very real virus and is very common but you never hear much about it unless the number of cases have spiked dramatically. The same goes for most virus' and bacterial infections.

Maybe it is different in the states??This was a friend who is a navy Seals doctor.

He only had 24 hours of vomiting/diarrhea. But seems out of it still. Started early am on Sunday. Still is weak and tired. I think he returned home on Tuesday, from his Grandma's house.

I'm staying away from him, but a little worried about my nieces as now he is at home.

My BIL thinks it was food poisoning.

With food poisoning the vomiting will start within 60 minutes of consumption.

Norwalk...you will have a short period of extreme vomiting and/or diarrhea followed by extreme fatigue that will last a few days. Then the fatigue will continue, but to a lesser degree, for about 2 weeks.

As with any occurance of vomiting/diarrhea proper hand washing is critical and so is the sanitation of surfaces.

Norwalk is the worst thing I've had as an adult. My son brought it home last year and I was puking for two days followed by a couple days of fun on the other end. I think I ended up losing around 10 pounds in a week. Fortunately my youngest who was three months didn't get it though.

I wish they'd give this kind of consideration for Norwalk and notify parents, all this for a fairly mild flu seems silly to me...granted it COULD mutate and nobody has been vaccinated or has any immunity to it since it's new so the potential is there for it to turn ugly...but as it stands right now I'd send my child; unless I was about to leave on vacation :rotfl:

Update!

Thanks to my BIL coming home before he should have, now my sister has it.

It will only be a matter of time before their children and I have it. They both come to my daycare-and were with the other children yesterday and today. Then all of the daycare children that I look after will also have it as I'm sure it's contagious before you get any symptoms like most viruses.

Oh, we knew it wasn't food poisoning-just pointing out how out of it he is!
