Let's turn to something else: Chipotle - lots to consider

My 20 y/o DD lived on Chipotle. Seriously, I think she'd bleed Chipotle if you poked her. It really is a decent option for a poor, vegan college student. She would get a huge burrito or bowl and get two meals out of it. She didn't stop her excessive consumption when the first problems cropped up on the west coast, but when they closed the restaurants out there, she started getting nervous. Now she has gone an "entire" two weeks without it. She said she knows what it is like to detox now. :rotfl:

I think it says a lot about our food chain. Just because it is locally raised/grown or even organic doesn't mean squat.

Ate there once and ate at Moe's once. Will never go to either ever again. Even my teens won't go to either also. Much better tasting and just as about the same price in mom and pop places that we do eat at. Every time I hear about an outbreak, including it has happened in my state, it scares me. No one likes to get sick from food.

Yes, their track record is awful and with the latest outbreak in Boston, getting worse. There hasn't been a fast food chain that has dealt with numerous, frequent outbreaks like this.
Guess when I heard about the outbreaks and restaurant closings out west, naively I thought that it might be "geographic" with their suppliers. Once I heard this morning about the Boston outbreak and 20 Boston College students wound up very ill, I put "the brakes on it". I myself don't eat it, but I warned both of our adult sons this morning. :scared1: SCARY and SERIOUS!

We eat at Chipolte a lot. When the outbreak first happened on the West i did not change anything, thinking it was just on West coast. Since it has made it way to my area in Ohio we have not gone and will not go back until we know the problem is gone.

My husband was telling me about Jack in the Box and the E-Coli outbreak that they had. I just read about it and it affected almost 732 people and killed 4. I sure hope that it is not that bad with Chipolte.

None of the large fast food chains will serve undercooked ground beef after that experience. Jack in the Box went on the offensive and completely revamped their marketing. Another thing is that a lot of the meat sold these days through large wholesalers is either irradiated or treated with ammonia. That will mostly kill off bacteria.

My son is the only one of us that ets chipotle. He loves it. There is one right across from where he works part time. Many times he won't even go in as they are so popular that it's always packed. As far as I know there have been no problems in my state but I will look into it more now

I eat at Chipotle about twice a month. I *LOVE* it. The foodborne illnesses though are making me very nervous, though. It's just seems really odd that they can't figure it out and it's so widespread, even though they locally source.

By the way, did the ever figure out why Costco's chicken salad made people sick (and that was not localized either). I heard it was the chicken salad but not why it happened.

I ate Chipotle every Tuesday when training for my half. It was one of my things. Same burrito every single Tuesday. Since the e-coli outbreak and then some less than steller experience at my local location by co-works (bugs in food, dirty gloves handling burritos, etc) I stopped eating there.

I much prefer Tijuana Flats to Chipotle. We stopped eating there awhile ago but I wouldn't be too worried to eat there again (the outbreak isn't in my area). I don't think this will hurt Chipotle too bad!

I was the celery and onion blend. http://www.cdc.gov/ecoli/2015/o157h7-11-15/

The interesting thing is that the E Coli (0157) associated with that is the one usually associated with beef.

Hubby and I ate at 2 of the ones in Oregon that had problems. We even was in line behind and ate with one of the ones that got so sick and neither of us got sick.

However while our Chipotle was closed we ate at a new Mexican restaurant, that we had been eying for a few months, and both of us got sick.
Go figure. Yes they also got shut down by the health dept for clean up but that never made even the local news.

We have been back to our Chipotle since they reopened and will continue to go back.

And for those that mentioned Moe's where I am that is a Seafood restaurant so it took me a minute to realize what you were talking about.

They just opened a Chipolte not too far from us. I asked the ds to pick me up 2 chicken tacos. I think I just got cheese on them.

They were terrible. I didnt care for the seasoning I probably won't get anything from there again. I know they will still be customers.

I ate their once when they first opened in my area. I didn't care for it so I've never been back. I would not eat there now even if I hadn't tried them yet.

I actually prefer Moe's or Qdoba over Chipotle. I get grizzly chicken every time I go to Chipotle and it always grosses me out. But, if it were Moe's or Qdoba having the issues that Chipotle is having, I probably wouldn't bat an eye about it unless the cases were in my specific area.

A new Chipolte here as well. We do like Moe's better. Finding authentic Mexican in Central Fla is just not a thing. We take what we can get.

If they use local meat and vegetables, how are they having statewide outbreaks? Shouldn't they be localized?

Never been to Qdoba, but we prefer Chipotle to Moe's. Don't go there often, maybe once a month, max.
