Do you do Zumba classes? If so, do you enjoy it? Was it hard as a beginner to follow along?

I'm treating myself to some Zumba classes after Christmas. My dd's dance studio offers Zumba classes and they have a nice BOGO Christmas promotion, so I'd pay for 5 classes but will get 10 classes.

I've never done it. I have to admit I'm a little nervous because I see the women (many younger, most thinner than I am) leave the Zumba room looking worn out, but I think it'll fun to try something new and to get more exercise.

I've got a friend that teaches Zumba classes in Houston. She's amazing!
I, however, live in NJ and am unable to attend. So I bought the Zumba CDs. I had to throw DD out of the room as she made fun of me. Not nice to make fun of your mother. Little brat. :headache:

The CDs are fun so the classes have to be even better.
Enjoy!! :goodvibes

After watching the infomercials, I'm scared that I would spontaneously raise my tank top to show off (and rub-on) my fabulous abs to total strangers.;)

Zumba is awesome. I've been taking classes since January, and while the scale hasn't moved all that much, my clothes fit better and people ask me often if I've lost weight! :goodvibes

I think the instructor makes the class, though....I go to one woman that I LOVE LOVE LOVE. I've been to some other classes and the instructors are just "ok'.

You will work hard, and you will SWEAT. I am literally dripping on the floor when I'm done. The moves can be tricky at first, but keep going. Eventually, your brain learns and you will catch on. It can take several attempts to be able to get it down, but once you do, you will be so glad you stuck with it!

Have fun!!

I started with the DVDs before classes were open near me. The classes are more fun! You just have to remember that the routines are done several times so while it looks like other people are getting it in the first attempt, they've probably done that song several times and already know it.

My instructor always breaks down the moves before we do a new song. I love the fact that we have women of all ages (high school - through late 50's and maybe older) and sizes/shapes. No two people look the same doing the same song, either.

I'm a zumba junkie ;) At our YMCA I do aquazumba (much easier on the joints, not so sweaty) 2X/week, regular zumba at least 2-3X/wk, and have the DVDs to use at home. They also offer zumba gold for seniors and atomic zumba for kids. Our one instructor is "fluffy" like me, and not everyone in the class looks like the dvd instructors:thumbsup2. It's really FUN and the hour just flys by!

omg Zumba is not for wimps! lol I'm in fit shape and I thought it would be easy, but I was so wrong! It really is a great workout and fun! That's the main thing that kept me going with it. I made the mistake of really trying to do commando Zumba the first few times and had to slow down my intensity to build myself up to it. It doesn't matter what kind of shape you're in, you can move as hard or as easy as you need to/want to. I definitely recommend this, either on DVD or in class.

I take a class at our local dance studio and it is lots of fun and worked up a really attactive red face and drippy sweat look.

I was surprised that the instructor really doesn't give much in the way of verbal assistance, it is mostly follow along. It does get easier to pick up after a few times when you do the same routine, but we do seem to add or change up songs every week so it is always different.

Our class has a range of ages and skill level each week.

The only problem is that my instructor seemed to totally dismiss my threat of a lawsuit in that they didn't provide appropriate saftey warning "Attempting to practice Zumba moves while brushing your teeth may result in bashing your knee on the bathroom cabinet leading to bruising and feelings of intense stupidity." :headache: :rotfl:

My sister is a Zumba instructor! I do have to say she is fantastic!;). It is so much fun and in her classes she has young, old and in-between! she has guys and girls and it is a blast. Her classes get really crowded so it is easy to just blend in so no one notices my missteps or little breaks cause I can't keep up! :rotfl: You really can go at your own pace and still have fun and get great results.
