Let's talk Toilet Tissue

We have been using Scots Toilet Tissue for what seems like forever. Once in a while we get another brand and I get used to using that because it's softer, etc. and then it's back to the Scots because it is cheaper. I swear I could see bits of wood in the Scots when I looked at it close up! Dh says it's better for the plumbing then the softer brands.
What kind do you use and it is for price or personal preference that you get that brand? :)

I am a TP snob. I will only use Blue Charmin. My MIL goes to Costco every few months and buys two big cases of it, and gives us one plus some of the other one (3 of us, 1 of her) and then when we all start getting low she goes again. She says we "pay" for it by helping her with stuff around her house when she needs it.

I used to buy Cottonelle, but I hated that it left all that paper lint everywhere, so we switched to Northern Ultra. I love it because it is so soft and is triple ply. We just stayed at a cabin in Gatlinburg last week and the toilet paper there felt like sandpaper. My mom also has some really cheap paper at her house and it is so thin that I use much more of it than the Northern - which makes me think there isn't much of a savings difference.

We use Scott Ultra Soft mega roll. We used to use just plain Scott, but we like the ultra soft better.

We used Scotts for years since we had a septic tank and it was recommended for that. Since we moved a year ago and have sewer, we get the softer stuff, usually Charmin. I don't miss it!

When it comes to my A**, I go top shelf. No bargain brand butt wipe will suffice. If I wanted to feel like I was roughing it (literally) in the great outdoors, I'd remove the toilets, build an outhouse, and stop composting my leaves.

Charmin Soft!!!!

Do NOT buy Charmin Strong. It will clog your toliet. When they first started making Charmin Strong, it seemed like everyone I knew had a plumbing issue. Well, we all started talking and it seemed that we had all bought the Charmin Strong. That stuff does not dissolve in water. I would swear that it isn't biodegradable.

We used to be strictly Quilted Northern , but we just made the switch to the Sam's Club brand. It's just as soft and a bit cheaper. My DH will not go for cheap tp, that is one of our splurges!

we use the sam's club brand as well-member's mark. we can get 72 rolls (36 big rolls) for about $15-$16, when the charmin is almost $20, for fewer rolls. it says it is comparable to the charmin ultra strong...hmm...maybe that is the reason for our plumbing issues...

We have been alternating between this and the natural-- for some reason they keep switching the natural, I think I've had at least 3 different types.

We have a septic system so I'm leery of using the other types.

My mom uses the really thin, rough kind. She claims that they go through it so fast there's no point in buying anything more expensive. I have tried explaining to her that perhaps if she bought better toilet paper they wouldn't go through it so fast-- I know I use at least 3x as many sheets at her house-- but she will not listen.

I agree. Charmin Strong will clog your toliet!! :lmao:

I live in a 50 year old high rise that was NOT built for today's ridiculous low flow toilets. My plumber who I have gotten to know all too well in the past few years literally went through my home and confiscated all the two ply paper and told me never to use anything but really, really thin stuff and to flush at least 3 times.

Also to fill the bathtubs and let that water flow thru before leaving town. Yeah those low flow toilets really save water. In an old high rise a modern toilet flush will not get the water thru the horizontal pipe to the vertical sewer line. Let the paper sit there and dry for a few weeks of absence and it becomes like concrete. I spent hundreds of dollars (plus a lot of inconvenience) before switching to the awful toilet paper and flushing everytime I pass the bathroom whether it has been used or not.:)

In my other home (which still has old toilets) I buy the best, thickest stuff I can find.
