Let's Talk Remodeling

Okay... this is my pool, it's only fitting that there will be issues with its build.

So far, we have gotten the Bobcat stuck, had to bring in another one, and now my all-time favorite... they just busted my main sewer line. :headache:

Now the second Bobcat is leaking hydraulic fluid and they have no idea when the mini Bobcat is going to be repaired.

So, this is what my backyard looks like, and will be looking like until the other Bobcat is fixed. Actually this is an improvement, because I took this before the second one got stuck.

If these problems wouldn't have happened, I'd have gunite by Friday. :headache: :headache:

OMG! :scared1: They busted the sewer line?!!!! I am sooo sorry! I mean you'd expect problems but not that! Well it's past 5:00 so I can take a while guess at what you're doing! Drink up, it has to be better in the morning.

They did a temporary repair on it, so at least we can flush now! My youngest daughter was actually in the restroom when it happened, so I had to go running in there telling her not to flush. She was really happy.

We have a 50/50 chance of getting the pool dug by tomorrow. My luck is on the bad side, so if I hear a Bobcat outside, I'll be really surprised. How's that for negativity!

Oh, and I just sat down with a glass of Merlot. I thought about bringing the whole bottle in here and putting a nipple on it.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Did you make the seven hours before you starting drinking?

THE sewer line? :scared1: :sad2:

I love the picture of the guys just standing there looking at the problem. You know when they do that, it just spells trouble. And was this just Day 1?

A 18" retaining wall with a 3' sheer descent? Does that mean you're going to have a waterfall effect? How gorgeous is that!! :lovestruc :lovestruc

:scared1:
I think the bottle of Merlot with a nipple is a great idea :)

Oh, no. It gets better! Now Houston is experiencing a torrential downpour!

THIS is what my pool looks like now! Over to the far right of the pool, make note of the little line of brown coming off of the dirt/grass. That's a river. It's much more impressive in person.

IMG_1902.jpg

It was our main sewer line that they broke, and that guy? I never saw him doing a darn thing but helping to pull stuck Bobcats out of a mud hole.

That back wall will be stacked stone, and in the center of the curved wall, will be a 3' sheer decent. It'll be placed at the top, so it spills over in a sheet of water. Where the current river is flowing, will be new decking, and my old decking will covered in flagstone, and have a new pergola over it.

I think I should have tackled my early 90's bathroom instead!

It sounds fantastic. I can't wait to to see it when it's done. As far as the river, just call it a lazy river. Get your tube ready! :rotfl:

chant with me people!

yikes AMITY. thats yucky. The good news is there is almost enough water in there to swim now! :duck: :rotfl:

btw, dont google that. you do NOT want to know what you will find :scared1:

FIL is coming this weekend so the painting starts. He said today "Even the kids can paint! They will love that!" :faint:

So we are going from this

DSCF0162.jpg

to "California Stucco" colour by Behr with a black satin marine paint on the shutters and white on the trim.

I am hoping it will work.

btw the california stucco is the name of the paint I am not going to stucco my house. It is sort of a khaki colour.

right now it is a faded sea foam green, really hideous and you cant even tell that there are shutters on the brick because they blend into it

and one more thing lol.

Any ideas on what to do with those hideous pilars in the front? They are way to small for the house but they just far enough apart that I think if I were to enclose them they would be too much. the wood is just surrounding them they are actually only metal poles.

OMG... I need that!

binny, That bottle is too funny!:rotfl:

AMITY, How are you doing today? Has the Might Houston River swept you away?! Boy when it rains it pours! Literally....

Well I hope you're hearing the sounds of a bobcat working today. I can't wait to see how it all comes together. It sounds like it's going to be gorgeous.

We have put off the remodel of our pool for a while, the cost was just too shocking. But eventually if we stay here it's either going to have to be redone or filled in! My plaster is stained, the tiles are yucky pale blue & cracking & the "cool" deck is chipping away. Maybe next year, after we win the lottery. ;)

However, My front yard & driveway did look really great last night.:rolleyes1

DD & SIL came by to show us their New Corvette & parked it out front! :lmao:

Looks really nice out there doesn't it?!;)

They're here now and busting their rears. He has to get mine dug, steeled and plumbed today, or it throws off his whole schedule.

You should have seen it this morning. It was still full of muddy water. They were scooping it out with 5 gallon buckets. Better them than me! :rotfl:

Pools have gotten so expensive! You'd think pool companies would be hurting right now, since they're such a luxury, but nope, they're still plugging along.

My dream car! Gosh, that's gorgeous! I'd have one, except I think I'd stick out like a sore thumb in some of the areas I have to work in. I'd be able to make a quick getaway though! :woohoo:

BTW, your daughter is absolutely adorable!

Glad to hear they are worried about meeting schedules. That is a good sign!

Thanks for the compliments on DD & her car!

Isn't the car beautiful! I have to say I'm almost as excited about it as they are! (and a little jealous too!) We had a 78 Vette years ago. Our decision to sell it was a really tough one. DH was no longer able to drive it & DD was in school, sports, etc., so I was in the Mom/chauffeur mode. I think all of three of us have been sad about for years.

Mickeysgal, this picture is for you:

See anything that looks familiar? Possibly the guy on the bucket?

We have three crews here right now; the excavators, the plumbers (that's my new sewer line that they're working on - that's going to be underneath the concrete of my pool! :scared1:) and the steel workers - and then there's this guy. I don't what his purpose is, other than to knock on my door to deliver bad news.

He's a big dude, so maybe that is his purpose. People will be upset, but won't want to tangle with him.

Anyway, we're getting gunite shot at 6AM! My neighbors are going to love it! :scared:

Yep, there's one of them in every bunch. He must be the chaperone for the crowd.

I can't believe that they're moving so quickly on the pool. Gunite by tomorrow? That's fantastic.

Keep those pictures coming. How is the puppy doing with her yard all tore up?

Here is the cabin. I finally figured out how to log back into my photobucket account. But it's resized the pictures funny. How do I fix that? Anyway, right off the kitchen doors will be the new vaulted outdoor fireplace room.

Hey, Mickeysgal, do you have the floor plan for the cabin? DH and I want to build something like this on a piece of property we have in Missouri someday so I'm scouting for floor plans and ideas. It looks beautiful. :)

No, I don't. I've seen similar floor plans in cabin magazines, but nothing so far that matches it.

Here's a shot of the other side that faces the mountains. Keep in mind, the angle is funny since I took it from a rather low point on the lot.

The puppy is oblivious. More loose dirt for her to eat.

I on the other hand, am already sick of it. And it's been 36 hours. :scared1:
