Let's Talk Remodeling

That's a lot of counter space!

I really think it depends on the level of granite you choose. Some of them cost far more than others (double, or even triple). Luckily for me, I happen to like several of the Level I granites. (Lucky for my husband, too!)

I lucked out and found a distributor that was liquidating their stock, so I got my slabs at a good price. I think it was around $45 per foot for mine. I got 3cm Uba Tuba with a bull nose edge, and all together I think it was around $2,500 for the granite and installation.

I think my price is going to be way low on the pricing scale.

Thanks for the info... Uba Tuba is one of the ones I like the look of.
Yup I have LOTS of counter space, plus a huge island with a cooktop.
I'm thinking that I may be looking at about 9-10K for what I need. But we built this house 10 years ago and promised each other we would upgrade when we could afford it. Now's the time! Granite is the norm in our price range and so are hardwood floors. We are putting in hardwood floors now too.
I really like this...
it is manufactured wood that is harder and more resistant to damage.

Oh my - look at what I found? I never did take photos of my kitchen before I started the demo. I found these on the MLS. It was uglier than I remember!

I had NO counterspace before. Next to that wall oven was a desk, and then I had that Jennaire on the island. What an improvement!

That looks so nice. It all looks great but I really like how the tile backsplash and the new countertops change the look.

I just had my Granite installed last week.

150 sq feet = $12,000..
OUCH
New Flooring all through the lower level, Hickory. LOVE it! Another $11,000
Another OUCH

All new Kitchen Cabinets...everything. Waiting on the Installer now to return and put in the little things...ie: wine racks on the wet bar etc....Korbels...

This kitchen reno...has now progressed to the Family Room and beyond and on and on it goes. I am exhausted...and it is taking tooooooooooo long!:sad2

Love your kitchen: Am I There Yet
Nice job!

Nice job!

The estimate I've got for wood floors is 12K
So between that and the granite, I'm going to be spending 22K.

Am I there yet...... Are you a realtor?
Do you think a closet system (ie California Closets) in a master closet would be a good investment?
We have a closet that looks crowed due to the design but If it had a closet system I think it would actually hold more (and look better).

Also, is your wall above the kitchen window a different accent color, or is it just the light making it look that way? I like that look!

Ouch. Welcome to the club!

I am a realtor. Ironically I'm thinking of putting in one of those closet systems myself! I don't think you'll necessarily get your money back on it, but it might help your house sell quicker.

Well, I'm a horrible photographer, so it must have been the lighting!

So how did the granite turn out? I know you were having issues with some pitting, weren't you?

Post some pics! :)

I have hardwood floors throughout about 1/3rd of my house. I LOVE them! They really warm up the kitchen.

I was thinking I wouldn't get my money back for the closet systems, but I would be enjoying it for the next 5 years, and it would make the closet look bigger.

You're a good photographer, it was just the lighting above your sink made it look a different color!

I have the most dysfunctional closet around. I have this HUGE bathroom, and this tee-niny closet. I'm with you - I just want to enjoy it while I'm here.

I think I took those two pictures at different times of the day. The stove angle one, makes my paint look like puke.

I can't believe that's the same kitchen space! Wow!

Can the closet inserts be modified? I really need to do something about my largish walk in closet. It's a great size, but because my bedroom is upstairs in a non-dormered Cape, the closet is slanted and i can't really utilize it well.

I believe they can be. I haven't done too much research on them, but I think California Closets is custom. I could be wrong on that though. I know Home Depot carries modular pieces that you can use too.

AmIthereYet, We had a great time visiting your fair city!!! Thanks for the Tex-Mex recommendations! :thumbsup2 We ate at Los Cucos on Westheimer & it was wonderful! Astros won that night & had a fireworks show after the game so it was a great weekend! (Glad you found those before pics! It was a big change!)

I even felt rejuvenated enough to finally start cleaning the closets out, getting ready for the remodel! Spent all day on the master closet, uggh! I had some crap in there, but boy my closet is much bigger than I thought. I'll have to start on the bathroom closet & vanity today. Hopefully we'll be starting in a couple of weeks, but still no word from the state. It would be nice if we could get going before our WDW trip on the 19th, so the contractor could get going while we're gone. But I'm not holding my breath on that!

I love Los Cucos! They have the best fajitas! I'm glad you had a good time here!

We've decided to wait until either November or December to get started on our bathroom. :upsidedow

Like I said, I'm not holding my breath on the start date!;)

Funny, but I had the fajitas a la poblano ( I think that was the name) beef with poblano's, mushrooms & creamy tomatillo sauce. It was delish! :goodvibes Again thanks for the Houston tips, we did hit the Galleria which was great! But you were right about the traffic & construction right there! So glad we didn't book the hotel we first considered near there. :goodvibes

Yesterday while on the way to tweak my estimate on hardwood and tile, I passed by a place called Closets by Design. I walked in and talked to them (nice folks) and am getting a quote. I had a sketch of the floorplan and measurements and they said " What an odd design!"
This should be interesting!

On the granite... I went looking at samples and took my measurements to Lowes and the consultant there said I had 97 sq ft (including backsplash).
DH and I went looking at new homes on Sunday to see what looked good to us granite wise. It gives you a better idea to see it in place in true light. We both liked tropical brown

Here you see it with cherry cabinets like I have in this photo, and I like that sink! I will most likely get that style..

That granite is very pretty!

And all this talk about closets...I need to do something with ours. Ours is not messy, but it's not very functional. I need more space for shoes. ;) Hmmm maybe this will be the next project along with our bedroom floor.

Have you seen these shoe organizers?

Oh those are better than what I have now. Thanks. :thumbsup2 I need to go out and look at storage solutions.

It's better than my system too, which entails me standing at the closet door and kicking my shoes off, shooting them towards a pile in the corner. If I'm good, they actually land right side up. :rotfl:
