Let's Talk Remodeling

Elizke, thank you. :)

I am not even saying what we spent... Oh and I can "blame" DH as he picked the faucet.

You don't have to tell me. I used to own a plumbing company! You can drop some serious change on fixtures! :scared1:

Thanks! I'm about to buy about $1000 worth of laminate flooring. This will save me $100. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Hmmm... I wonder I think it says "Good for a single purchase of any in-stock or Special Order merchandise only up to $5,000." so I bet I only get it for one pack of laminate flooring or only about $3-$4.

Hey Bill. I'm a flooring specialist for Home Depot and used to be a sales rep for Pergo floors. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Cool, I guess purchase is total purchase price not a single item. :thumbsup2

FroggyinArk, are you really on commission at Lowes? I didn't know this about Lowes. Although, by the way the designer in the kitchen dept acted when we were ordering our Diamond cabinets for the basement, I started to have my suspicions.

(See how pukey the wall color looks on photos? It does not look like that in person!)

Did you check out Gardenweb? There is a tiler on there who's posted lots of patterns and photos.

Thanks for the picture. Thats very pretty and stylish, yet doesn't overwhelm the area with color.

Can you point me in the right direction for this tiler on gardenweb? I've been looking there, but is there a specific user name I should be looking at? Do you know?

Home Depot's kitchen people are not on commission. At least that's what they guy kept telling me last week or so while in looking at Silestone prices.

Nope, no Home Depot associates are on commission. Maybe the At-Home people that come out to do work in your home, but not the instore specialists

Hi all, I have avoided this thread in the past because of the length of it. I have only read the past few pages (great pictures I am there yet and MissJ, I love it.) :thumbsup2

I am knee deep in middle of a kitchen remodel, DIY. I am going a bit crazy and need to be with people who understand. :grouphug:

Everything is out, the dumpster is gone. The cabinets are here, but we are no where ready to install them. The floor is picked out (brazilin mesquite), should be ready anyway now, or early next week.

We still have drywall work, some plumbing, some electrical and we need to fix the ceiling and paint before we can do the floors, then the cabinets. After those are in we can call for the counter tops to be measured. It all HAS to be done by the end of Aug when DH gets back to work.

Thanks for the coupon link. FIL just spent 2,000 at lowes today buying fake wood for a new deck at his house. I hate to tell him about it. I should of looked here sooner.

I think I have the hardware picked out. It is at Lowes, so I know what my coupon will be used for.

It is moving slow, and having no kitchen (and kitchen sink and or counter space) is getting old. All the food in our spare bedroom, on the bed and in plastic containers. Food stains all over the carpet from the girls eating in the living room. 4 times more garbage, just on paper plates and the like.

I am not sure I can handle 5 more weeks of this.

Here is the hardware we are thinking of. They are black, I would rather find them in a sliver color (or something close to them), but have not been able to yet. They do match the sink very well so that might pull the black from it in, and the counter top has some black specks in it.

The cabinets are a honey maple, so that is what I am the most unsure about. They do look great with the sink.

Welcome!!

Oh boy, oh boy, do we understand! :grouphug:

Oh don't you wish things would progress at rocket speed instead of tiny baby steps? Its enough to drive you batty.

Just finished remodeling our upstairs bathroom. Yes, it did take my husband over a year, but at least we paid cash for everything - and we did replace EVERYTHING. Next, the floors. Goodbye carpeting, hello laminate wood floors through out.

Give me some time tomorrow, and I'll look for you. I think his name is Jim, but I'm not sure. (I know that really helps you narrow it down, doesn't it!?!)

He used to be all over the kitchen forum, and people there actually used him.

I've seen those! Check on eBay! That's where I got mine.

FWIW, I have black iron (matte) knobs, pulls and lights, and a stainless sink and appliances. My granite is dark, so it pulls it all together nicely.

That's okay! Some of us (ME) are moving at a snail's pace, so you'll be able to leave for about a month and come back and we'll (I'LL) still be in the same spot.

You know how when something goes on sale after you purchase it, they'll still refund the difference? Maybe they'll honor the coupon!

You have to do the obligatory setting a full drink down on your "countertops" that aren't there anymore, before you know you're in true remodeling hell! Trust me, you'll know when you're there!

Hang in there!

We paid cash for our kitchen too. I think we're going to have to do a second on our master though. :headache:

We were at Lowes yesterday looking for a pocket door frame for our basement door. DH said:scared1: he wanted to look at vanity countertops for our bathrooms. Of course after he found a couple of different granite tops he liked he said "You know we could upgrade the vanities too!!!" All I could think was who are you and what have you done with DH. I have made a DIY monster out of him. I told him we need to get the projects on hand done before he gets excited for more.:rotfl2:

Thanks for the welcome. I need it. :rolleyes1

We have paid cash for all our house remodel work too (and there has been a lot, this is last thank goodness.)

Well not 100% cash. A lot of it has been on the HD CC since we got 10% off and a year to pay. We will pay it all off before then, but why not keep the cash now????

Often it feels like we are hemoraging (sp?) money. Then we have to wait a while and let it grow again. It seems to be "growing" a lot slower these days. :rolleyes1

Ha Ha I avoided the putting the full glass down with no counters. :cool1: I did have one section of my cabinets covered with plywood so I had a little workspace. That actually helped a lot.

The backsplash looks great! I even took pictures showing the backsplash, the hardware on the cabinets, the new light fixture and our new bar stools. :thumbsup2 I forgot the camera. :sad2:  DH is painting tomorrow.
