Let's Talk Remodeling

I think painted trim that is knicked & scratched just look ratty & not something I want to keep up with.

I hear ya! Unfortunately, I do like painted trim and doors. Right now, I'm sure wishing I didn't! :upsidedow

For the most part, it's all painted and in good shape. I should be able to clean it really well, and then paint it. Thank goodness there is now water-based acrylic too!

But - in some area, particularly around the french doors in my breakfast room, and some window sills, where the paint has chipped down to raw wood, so I'm going to have to sand it all down. About 2/3rds of my house is hardwood floors. :sad2:

I know it took FOREVER to get the dust out after our bathroom remodel, from sanding down the walls. I'm just dreading it.

Good luck with it! Getting rid of the dust after, has to be one of the hardest jobs! I am going to have to go get a new vacuum, or two (maybe a shop vac too) before we start in the bathroom. Once the bathroom is done, we're going to get rid of the carpet in the bedroom & put wood in there too.

Oh and it's looking like we are going to take a closet that backs up to our bathroom to enlarge the bathroom. So that means we'll have to sheetrock that wall, so of course we'll have to sheetrock the rest of the den & kitchen, finally!! No more wallpaper covered paneling!!! Eeeww but the mess of more sheetrocking, ugh!

I'm impressed that you were able to understand what I wrote! I reread it, and it looks horrible!

Installing sheetrock makes a terrible mess! Sanding it down after taping and floating, is even worse. I don't envy you that job, but it will be nice to have the larger area!

Are you done after that?

Done with what? All my remodeling projects? No way. Not even close. :sad2:

Makes me wonder whether we were better off moving into a new house. Although at the time, there were none in our price range that fit our family's needs. Lately I've found a couple - one in particular - that I'd love to have, but not the mortgage that would have to go along with it.

I know, but even with a new house, there are things you're going to want to do. Landscaping is always puny; there usually aren't any blinds; the walls are usually blah... etc.

(Is that working?)

 I have been looking at 1-1/2 & 1-3/4 kitchen sinks to go with the new counters. Tonight we decided to make a mock-up out of cardboard to see just how big these sinks are. Let's just say even the smallest ones look HUGE in our condo kitchen. They look nice in those huge mcmansion kitchens. :headache:

Now I'm back to searching for a stupid single bowl undermount in about the same size we have for a reasonable price. I can get one of the huge double sinks for less $ than a single smaller sink. :sad2:

So far I've had more trouble with sink & faucet than any other part of this project.

I bought a sink.....FINALLY! :rotfl: Same size as we have now. Single bowl 16 guage stainless steel undermount.

Now....onto the faucet. I have to have this stuff by 8/7 when they come out to measure & template for the Silestone countertops.

Even when we had to have a tub faucet special-ordered at Lowe's, it came in within a week. You'll make it!

I  my new faucet!
This is not a great pic as stuff was still scattered about, I need to take a new one (sorry).

Well I was going to also post a link to the faucet itself by the site it down. It's an Allora Delta Faucet.

Here's a pic I found elsewhere (we didn't get the soap dispenser).

I love it!

Thank goodness I was here when they were cutting the holes in the granite, for my faucet. I have a hole for the spout, a hole for the handle, a hole for the sprayer, and hole for the soap dispenser.

A lot of holes, right?

DH is there in the kitchen, showing them where to put them, and he had them all lined up in a row, with about 1-1/2" of space in between each one! Can you imagine trying to keep that clean?

I moved the soap dispenser off to an angle on one side, put the spout in the middle, with the handle next to it, and the sprayer about another 4" over.

I would have KILLED them all, had they cut into that granite.

Splash, you can see mine a little bit here:

I hate posting that photo. I really, really need to get a new breakfast table!

Can you imagine if they cut those holes wrong? Since your DH showed them where to put them, you couldn't fault the fabricator. Would you have lived with it or replaced the granite? :scared1:

I have a request....can you please take a picture of your backsplash only? Is that tumbled stone? I like the pattern and I'm still stressing over what kind of pattern to do in the basement kitchen. We have a lot of movement with the granite, so I want something uniform in color, yet have just enough style in the layout. I don't want to take away from the granite pattern. It would clash. I think I see what you did...and I like it!

Does anyone else have any favorite backsplash layouts that you can show me??? Please??? I've been looking so much, I'm confusing myself.

Well, after I buried my husband in the backyard, I think I would have had them do an extra seam and replace that part.

That whole section is one slab, up until it makes the turn toward my fridge. Can you imagine how expensive of a mistake that would have been??? :scared1:

Why, as a matter of fact, I happen to have one in my photobucket account!

(See how pukey the wall color looks on photos? It does not look like that in person!)

Did you check out Gardenweb? There is a tiler on there who's posted lots of patterns and photos.

Thanks! I'm about to buy about $1000 worth of laminate flooring. This will save me $100. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Hmmm... I wonder I think it says "Good for a single purchase of any in-stock or Special Order merchandise only up to $5,000." so I bet I only get it for one pack of laminate flooring or only about $3-$4.

When we got our laminate at Home Depot we got 10% off the whole order. It was not a coupon they had the laminate 10% off. That really helped in our case as we had bought Dupont lmainate that looks like real wood. We had about $2500 worth so we got $250 off. Hopefully the coupon will work the same way.

I love those faucets Miss Jasmine and Arewethereyet. Very stylish.

Thanks! I like Miss Jasmine's better. We spent as little as possible on our remodel, and something tells me hers is the better faucet.

:lmao:

Well yours is definitely better than mine dangit!!

I'd better stay out of the faucet section at Home Depot for the next few weeks.

Elizke, thank you. :)

I am not even saying what we spent... Oh and I can "blame" DH as he picked the faucet.
