lets talk about room noise

We own at bcv but are looking to add on at another.

Room noise could be a major factor in how much you enjoy your room and experience.

Was wordering if any dvc properties are more likely to have more room noise over another.

What has been your experience with room noise and at which resort?

We always, other than our upcoming trip, reserve a lock-off on the top floor over Big River Grille at Boardwalk Villas. We hear people laughing, and sometimes drunk, leaving the bars on the Boardwalk late at night, however, it doesn't bother us too much because there are a lot more benefits.

The one disadvantage of being "close to elevator" is that we tend to get more noise from people getting off the elevator, running and laughing.

What about thickness or thinness of walls? Any properties seem better or worse?

Older resorts were not insulated as well as newer ones. OKW seems noisier to use. Location of the room in the resort is also a factor, all resorts have operations that can generate noise.

To me, BWV units have "paper thin" walls between the units. I can easily hear conversations through the wall behind the master bed as well as through the lock-off door between the living room and studio portions.

I found the Poly Studios well insulated between units. Of course, they were originally pre-fab sections slid into place similar to the Contemporary. I'm guessing that double wall is a big help, even now.

I haven't thought they were although you will here transportation whistles during the day etc. The connecting door is back by the entry door which is an optimal location to reduce room to room noise. The most complaints seem to be about the EWP at night - those people go to bed much earlier than we ever do!

Thx . Good to know. At BWV, our home, we have two white noise machines going on when sleeping or napping. One in the bdrm and the other in the living room. Little kids who are poor sleepers!

We just bought BLT and I'm glad it's quieter. The white noise machine will be effective there as well!

We've only stayed in 1 BCV lockoff and it had the connecting door in the entry area. I'm trying to recall our studio stays but I almost think the 2 times we've had studios they have been dedicated and I can't recall on our only 1BR how that was set up. It might have been dedicated also.

We stayed in a BCV dedicated 2 bedroom years ago. In the master bedroom, you could hear the occupant on the other side of the wall snoring....not just regular snoring....sounded like a chain saw.

We stay at BWV twice a year. I have never heard noise thru the wall or the door if we are in a one bedroom with a connecting door to a studio. We DO hear noise out in the hallway, but it is usually kids crying, running, laughing or screaming. Noise from a BoardWalk view is expected, but also fun to watch from the comfort of your deck. Close the doors and curtains and you don't really hear it.

BLT..we also stay twice a year...sometimes lakeview, sometimes MK view. I find those rooms extremely quiet, unless you open the deck doors. But I love the "noise"...train whistle at MK, fireworks....and the cars in the parking lot that are sensitive to noise and their alarms start going off during the fireworks, the whooshing of the monorail going by. I never hear a lot of "hallway noise" there.

We also stayed at the new Poly DVC...Ferry boat horn at 5:15 a.m. Not fun. Don't know what is up with that....the Ferry does not run that early.

......my kids are noisy enough in our own room that I have never heard noise from any other rooms.

We have stayed many times at BCV, BWV and OKW and have never really had a noise issue. At BCV & BWV you get the occasional loud families or kids running down the hall, but nothing horrible.

We rented DVC points at AKL Kidani last year and were in a studio with a lockoff and the people that were in the 1 bdrm next door were really noisy.. all day and all night... It didn't help that there was a 1/2 inch gap at the bottom of the door, IIRC.

I wouldn't hesitate to go back there, it was a minor inconvenience, but I didn't necessarily like hearing every last thing they were saying/doing or what they were blasting on the tv.

When we had a lock off at OKW we put a rolled up towel between the doors. It did lessen the noise. BWV was really bad when our 'neighbors' were on the balcony,very loud. You can't get away from it. We heard nothing at AKLK.

We thought BLT was noisy inside the C with all the pool activities and the water parade. Plus the echo of the fireworks - you could hear them but not see them.

The only noise we had at KV was some kid hollering off his balcony at the animals for hours at a time. Just wanted to tell him to shut his trap.

Other than those, I don't remember any other noisy locations.

We were in a 1BR at Kidani about 2 years ago, and the people in the room adjacent to our master bedroom were really loud, having altercations that were scary to listen to. But. they weren't in the adjacent studio. We rarely stay in a studio, but,I have heard others say that they can hear the washer and dryer. To be honest, I do a load of wash before we leave in the morning, and put it into the dryer when we get back at night, and sometimes that is after midnight. The washer and dryer don't bother me while I am trying to sleep in the same room, but, it doesn't bother me back home, either. So, noise issues for me have been people who were unusually loud, rather than an issue with the rooms as such.

We just got home from VWL and it was super quiet. I passed others in the hall or I might have thought we were the only ones there. It was very peaceful.

noise varies greatly depending upon who your neighbors are and where you are located in the resort. All can be quiet and all can be noisy. but DVC resorts are definitely quieter than WDW resorts.
